Tongue Tied

My father was tongue-tied, I'm tongue-tied and now, my daughter is tongue-tied! I never had my tongue clipped nor did I have any speech problems,b ut my daughter's tongue is even shorter than mine! I'm concerned not only for the teasing, but that she may end up having a speech problem due to this.

What I'm wondering is if anyone has a child who is tongue-tied, do you plan on getting their tongue clipped or have you already? Would you do it?

It's not really as easy as, "Oh just get it done.", if it turns out NOT being a problem for her speech then it was basically a useless procedure besides for cosmetic reasons, but the longer I wait to find out IF it will be a problem the more complicated and hazardous the procedure becomes because there's a major vein and nerve in there that get larger and more pronounced over time.

I was really hoping someone else had their child's tongue clipped and could tell me about it or someone who's at least got a child who is tongue tied and could offer some insight. But I will definately be talking to more than one doctor about it, and probably a dentist or two as well! Thanks ladies!

Well if you fear for him that much....I would just have it clipped.

I wish I could help you but, I've never even heard of this. I hope you find the right answers. If I were in your shoes, I would definately get a couple of different physicians oppinions before making a decision. Good Luck!

Someone is tongue-tied when their tongue is short. The little flap of skin that is under your tongue that holds it to the bottom of your mouth is really far up towards the tip of your tongue instead of towards the back. I get a crease in the middle of my tongue if I try to stick it out!
