Hi my son is 13 1/2 months old and he seems bored with his toys. I would really like to take him outside but we've been having really crappy cold and rainy weather lately so I need some ideas on what I can do inside that will keep him busy. Any suggestions??

We've had some blizzards this may so I know what you mean by the weather not being favourable. We do try and get out as much as possible; but a blizzard would be a little on the extreme side haha.

Anyways; we have a couple of hit toys right now. The top two are his Peek a Block Wagon with Peek a Blocks and his Laugh and Learn House. So far these seem to be a winner! The house also has 2 different modes so when he seems a little bored I change the mode and he loves it again. It's been a lifesaver! He's also got a favourite feel and learn book that he likes to pop open once in a while.

I'm going to have to try that finger painting with pudding thing; sounds like a lot of fun (and tasty too!)

Not sure I can be very helpful here, all three of my boys have always needed to be outside as much as humanly possible, so I suggest investing in some good waterproofs and wellies and snow trousers for winter. No matter how many brilliant idea's I would come up with they would always end up bored again within 20mins. I recently bought my youngest some didriksons waterproofs with dungeries which are designed so that you can fit layers underneath, so whatever the weather we can get him out splashing in puddles and releasing that boy energy!! If your little boy is anything like my three then he'll want to be out in the fresh air getting dirty as much as possible, even the slide, seesaw, swing etc get left for good old fashoned playing in the dirt, I tend to take the attitude now that boys only wear clothes to get them filthy lol. Hope this is of some help.

Ps. We live in england so the weather is nearly always grotty lol

My daughter, 15mths next week, loves her busy ball popper. She chases the balls, rolls the balls around the house, dances to the music and puts all sorts of things in the ball hole, although we have to watch that so they don't block the machine. She also pushes her stuffed toys around in her pram and plays with her shape sorters. She also uses egg rings as bangles and loves walking around with those on her arms. Reading books is another favourite. We also put toys away, that way she really gets to play and know a toy instead of having toy overload. Her latest is a little kitchen, so we've all been tasting the food! Mmmmm. Tupperware drawer is another hit as well as fridge magnets.

My son tends to play with the blocks like a few of the others below, but also balls for rolling (or throwing, but you need to make sure they're soft so they don't break anything inside), he also tends to sit and look at books (those board ones, that they can't rip so easily) or play with toys where they play some sort of sound, whether its something to bang like a drum or something that just plays music.

On rainy days I have found that coloring entertains him for a long time (supervised) just tape down large pieces of paper to a table so he can't pull it up, give him some crayons and let him at it! Also the most simple things he doesn't get to touch will thrill him (plastic containers, boxes, large plastic or wooden spoons, pots and pans). Making paper airplanes and flying them around the room. Bubbles are also a big hit with my son although he'll only be able to swat at them. Puppets are fun, even if they're just out of clean socks. Or if you want more physical activities pile some pillows and blankets around your living room and let your son climb and tumble! hope these help!

we have a small toy store in our house so my son just altenates toys as he wants them, but one of his favs that he never gets bored of is his ball pit. He has a proper blow up one that u can put the balls in the top and they roll around a ramp back into the base but if u didnt want to buy him one just buy a bag of balls and use a shallow roll away storage box or those clam shaped sand pit things. Or try finger painting or colouring, if your worried about mess you can get those painting books that the colours r actually on the page and u just wet the paint brush and paint over the pic or the magnectic sketchers are great my son loves to draw on them

Anything that can be transferred from one to another. Jackies favourite game at the moment is tipping out the peg basket and putting them all back in (after checking out what they taste like!!). Another fave is fitting shape blocks into the right holes.

stacking cups is a hit in our house. i have fisher price ones but i am sure any kind will do the trick. my son wants to put everything into something else at the moment so the rings that fit on one another is also the flavour of the week here. and he started doing easy puzzles so i bought him more of those. but the stacking cups win every time.

My son is bored with his toys too! I feel your frustration! Kolt is 14 1/2 months old, and loves to be outside, but it's cold and nasty here too! He likes household items, anything he sees mommy and daddy using. Unfortunately that means the remote and cell phones. But he likes brushes, wooden spoons with pots and pans..but his favorite is a plastic cup. We showed him that if you put it against his mouth and talk into it, it sounds funny. So now he walks around the house all day talking into a cup...sounds a little crazy, looks a little crazy too. But he's entertained!

My daughter is SUPER bored with her toys and she's 14 months old. I consulted with her pediatrician about it at her 12 month well baby because she's been this way since she was about 9 months old. After about a week or 2 with a toy she gets completely bored with it. Our pediatrician told us that some babies get bored with toys quickly because they figure it out. They've learned how to make it move or whatever and that sometimes when they do that, they get bored and want a new form of stimulation. I just switch out her toys. She has SOOOOO many that I just try to rotate them. I will pull a certain few and let her play with them for a week or so until she starts to act bored. Then I put them away and pull out ones she hasn't played with in a couple of weeks. It works for a little bit. But now we're having to work on stimulating her mentally with other means. Coloring, flash cards, blocks, going on "adventures", and other things. The adventures we just take her to new parks and new areas. We then walk around and I point at all the new things and tell her what they are. When she gets bored we move on. Zoos are great for these kinds of things as it introduces new animals and such.

My kids are the same age as yours, Patricia and they are obsessed with those bristle blocks too. They like the outdoors as well, and love walks, riding their bike and scooter(the older one obviously).

I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old, who both love being out side. My 4yr old builds forts in the house on rainy days. My 1year old thinks theyre just the greatest, she like tearing them down too.

One of my daughters favorite things is a bowl of cherios and a spoon and some measureing cups and she transfers them from container to container pretending she is cooking, and eats them of course. My toddler and the dog usually clean up the mess when she is done.

We also finger paint with pudding but we do it in the tub on the shower wall with no clothes and when they are done I just fill up the tub and wash em right off it is such easy clean up!

Have you looked at your area moms club? We do play group once a week and rotate houses for location. We also to parks and zoo when the weather is nice. It is a great way to get a change if you are feeling trapped in the house. Hope this helps Good luck

My son really enjoys household things. For example, he loves playing with metal bowls and wooden spoons. It's like his drum set. He has a cupboard that is "his" and he'll get in there and pull out all the Tupperware and play with it for awhile. Sometimes, a roll of toilet paper will provide a 1/2 hour of entertainment, too.

Don't discount using things around the house! What is "everyday" to you can be lots of fun for your little one!!

finger paint with pudding! My son loves it, and it's safe to eat.
We also fill empty shakers with things and prance around the house, We just got him a little vaccum, oh my!! he won't put it down!
we also do homemade playdoh, umm I hope that helps! I know rainy days can be such a bummer!!
