I had a really hard time weaning. I had to use tough love & it wasn't easy but we got through it & my mom helped. She really didn't want to go back & forth b/t bottle & breast so I had to start only giving her the bottle with breastmilk & if she refused she would skip that feeding & I offered it to her again the next time. That was what my pedi told me to do. It was hard at first but if you give in when they cry they will never take the bottle. I know it gets harder as they get older, my daughter was 5 months when I did it. After she got used to the bottle for a few weeks I began mixing small amounts of formula into the breast milk. The pumping got to be taxing after a while. Once she was confortable with the bottle getting used to the formula wasn't bad at all. HTH

hi guys!!!! my first son was breastfed until 9 months when he weaned himself I was lucky I didn't have to go back to work so didn't have to rush him he was however being looked after my his nana and pop one day a week and they gave him formula I know they tell you not to do this but from a young age we fed him expressed breastmilk in a bottle ai he took to it fine Ewan my second was not so easy he was sick and wasn't feeding well so I was told to express and supplement feedings with a 14 month old I really couldn't work out when I was ment to be expressing I was torn from one climbing on the tv to the other crying in his bassinet.. Any way so I decided formula would have to do but he refused to take bottles of anything off any one so I had to trick him I would do 80 % bm 20% formula and I would start feeding him quickly switch the slide hte dummy in and then squirt some breastmilk on teh teat of the bottle and slide that in at first he was like what no way after the first few sucks you know he though oh hang on Im not stupid but turned out it was enough to slowly give him a taste and experience of the bottle once he worked out he got there milk faster from the bottle we were fine but it did take weeks good luck mummy's

I am currently in the same position! My son has been breastfed exclusively until adding solids at 5 months...now I'm trying to wean him with hopes of him being completely weaned by 9 months but am having no luck. He refuses to take a bottle from me or my husband and just cries and cries until I give it. Anyone else have a suggestion?
