My son has also had egg. Although this is one of the foods that babies are commonly allergic to, I seem to remember having to try the older boys on it short after the turned 6 months, as 1 of the vaccines given in Australia used to have an egg white base, so they needed to know if they were allergic prior to that. They recommended that you try them with a small amount of egg yolk first then, a week later try the egg white (only if there was no reaction to the yolk). They are quite a bit older, so things may have changed in the mean time, but I have still tried my 8 month old.

I have opted to make my own baby food, minus some fruits as they seem to be harder to steam and prepare. But my daughter is now 9 months with 2 teeth. She eats what we eat for the most part, as long as there is not a lot of spice, garlic, ect. that would upset her tummy, or eggs and anything with nuts. They also say to stay away from citrus fruit until 12 months. I just puree what we are having and add either a little formula or breastmilk to smooth it out. She was a little difficult to start on solid foods as she had a gag reflux but as time has past it is getting better. I just steam veggies and mashed or puree them. I even do crazy mixtures like beans, rice, and applesauce. You can freeze the food, if you make a decent amount, in ice cube trays and then store them in ziploc freezer bags. So my daughter is eating that. As well as cooked whole wheat pastas, fruits, cheese (all cut to small pieces so she doesn't choke), and organic yogurt, cottage cheese, and of course iron fortified cereal. My girl loves to eat!!

I am on my 4th baby, I do 2nd and 3rd jars of food. he also eats what me or his older siblings are eating since you can not eat without him coming by you. But he uses his jawes to really chew up food. He still has no teeth.

I feel very behind...I'm still giving my 8 month old stage 1 foods. I usually make it myself but sometimes buy it. When I've given her food that's a little chunky she does not like it and usually spits it out. She likes everything we've given her tho...mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, peaches, apples, pears, baby yogart, avocado, different cereals, carrots, peas...What should I do next? I guess this doesn't really help the initial question but I don't know what I'm doing most of the time (1st baby).

i feel horrible i am doing everything i know to be wrong with my 4th child . he gets cereal out of the bottle. which my pcp doesn't like. i have already mashed up veg lasana and given it to him . ( sm amt) lst pm i gave him a very sm amt of egg and i should know better i am an allergy nurse. but when he is eating with us at dinner i give him his 2 jars of 2nd foods but he looks at ours so i give him little bites. be care of choking and allergy hazzards . i should add mine has 8 teeth and seems to be more interested in eating than my others . just be careful . you should really mash up veggies and non allergenic foods. good luck and happy feding it is so fun to watch them isn't it?

My son eats just about every thing. Although he only just started getting teeth (1 came through last week and one is part way through this week), he has already tried sausages, and chicken nuggets, when we have had them with the older kids. Finger foods are fantastic for them to learn to feed themselves, before they can handle a spoon. The biggest things that you should stay away from are nuts, raw carrot, raw apple and corn chips, as these are all big choking hazards. In Australia they advise you to stay away from all nuts (even ground) as there is also a high rate of allergies to these.

My baby only has one tooth, which is fine, cos she is still breastfeeding at 8 months. I also started her eating solids at almost 6 months, when she showed she was ready. I feed her mielie meal, yoghurt, chunks of fish in mashed veggies, 1/4 apple peeled, avo, banana, baby marrowa in slices, cucumber, marie biscuits... she just loves everything I give her.

In addition to his regular baby food, my 8 month old son has started eating yogurt (yobaby organic has less than 1/2 the sugar of regular yogurt and tastes wonderful), mashed up cottage cheese, avacado, mashed potatoes, flaked fish and fruit in a small baby food strainer (it has a handle and a mesh area to put solid food in so the baby can suck it through the mesh). He also loves puffs, baby mum mums and yogurt melts.

I would try any chunkier version of food that he's eating now. My son will eat anything. He's eaten diced carrots, peas, potatoes, Cheerios (or any puff product), beans, baby cereal, regular oatmeal, and rice.
