My daughter is still mostly nursing, but I give her cereal or fruit (bananas, apples or pears) for breakfast, then she gets another solid for dinner so far we've introduced sweet peas, carrots and sweet potatos. im not in any hurry for her to grow up too soon so we are taking our time. She also enjoys the happy baby organic puffs or finger food.

my son was ill on all formulas, we tried 7 or 8 brands so at five months we started cows milk and no problems since. If introduced gradually it is not harmful for your baby - in fact new research is showing that formula can increase health risks more than cows milk. As with everything it's a question of introducing gradually and seeing how your baby reacts, i certainly don't regret having switched only wish i'd done it sooner

Yes, cow milk can be dangerous for the child system if given to early. Check with your Doctor before introducing cows milk, other dairy products and eggs to be safe. Gavin was born March 28th and only has his two bottom teeth (top two are coming in slowly now). So he has only has fruit and veggie baby food. He had a reaction to rice cereal, so our doctor recomended waiting several more months before reintroducing grains again. So he basically in nursing 3xs a day and eating two meals of 2-4oz baby food, right now. I am shocked to see so many kids his age eating so much every day, there must be a lot of babies with a lot of teeth out there. I followed a chart from wholesomebabyfood.com with my first son (3 1/2 now) and it went very smoothly. Make sure you only introduce one new food every couple days to watch for any reactions that might come of it.

Geez reading all these post makes me think my daughter is straggling behind!! She was born 30th March she has about 6-7 bottles a day and we are trying to push 2-3 meals of baby food but she doesn't eat anything that is a thick or lumpy consistency she just gags on it.
Helen, It may be different overseas but in Australia it is reccomended not to give babies cow's milk til over 12mths of age, only formula milk should be given, i have been told this by every doctor and paediatrician i have seen.

Iyanna eats baby cereal with fruit for breakfast, then a six ounce bottle. For lunch I usually feed her stage 3 baby food then a bottle in between and a snack and she gets stage 3 baby foods for dinner. I have recently started feeing her table food, but it gives her gas so I try to be careful. Then a bottle before bed and a cereal bottle in the middle of the night, because Iyanna does NOT sleep through the night. LOL..she thinks she is missing something.

Amelie still takes 3 breastfeed a day plus 2 solid meals. Quite a number of fruits, vegies and cereal. I dont give any protein and dairy products yet. Since she is breastfeeding that would give her most of the nutrients

Breakfast - Baby oatmeal w/ fruit baby food mixed in and a 6 oz bottle of formula
Lunch - Rice cereal and w/ fruit baby food and a 6 oz bottle
Dinner - Veggie baby food, dessert baby food, and a meat...also baby food...with a 6 oz bottle. If she makes it past the next few hours awake and hasn't gone to bed for the night, we'll give her another 6 oz bottle. We also give her a little afternoon snack too.

I give my son 6oz of his milk at 7am, then porridge with fruit at 10am, petit filous yog or banana at 12pm, 6oz bottle at 2pm, a food ive mixed up or what we are eating at 5pm, which is usually a small bowl full, then 7oz milk at 8pm just as he is going to bed. We brush his teeth straight after!!! Hope this is helpful. I'm not an expert but this satisfies my little boy & he is a healthy weight. He must be contented & he sleeps from 8pm through to 7am so i must be doing something right.

My son is only 8 months old but he is a big boy and loves to eat. We have been advised by pedi not to introduce meat, cheese, etc yet... He has 3 meals a day consisting of one of the following: baby cereal, cheerios, toast and a fruit or vegetable. I give him YoBaby yogurt for lunch. He is still nursing every 3-4 hours and growing like a weed.... He is my second baby and with the first I introduced things a little sooner. He had terrible eczema and we had to go back to basics to figure out what he was allergic to.... much easier to go slow and figure it out as an infant!! Just my experience...

where did you get that info Renae as here in France 8/9 months olds are reccomended 220 - 240 ml biberons of milk a day plus all the solids they want, and that's exactly how it's happened for both my children and children i have cared for ( I used to work in a children's/maternity hospital in the uk) Most babies I have cared for have eaten more than 3 tablespoons of solids at this age too

If it helps I can tell you what an 8mo needs from a dietary point of view? Until 12 months milk is still the most important part of baby's diet. Most of their nutrition comes from milk as they are still unable to absorb a lot of the nutrients in solid food. An 8mo old should be having 5-7 bottles per day and up to 3 meals (2 is fine). Most dieticians say to let them eat as much or as little solid food as they want to. A lot of it just goes in one end and out the other anyway. But as a rough guide most babies have 1-3 tablespoons of solid food.

Zach has ceral in the morning, usually porridge. For lunch he likes sausages, ham sandwiches or noodles. For dinner he eats the same as the rest of the family, be it chilli con carne, chicken roast or pie.
All we do for his meals is rip or cut it into mouth sized bites and remove anything tough like sausage skin. He feeds himself a lot of foods given a chance and has a great appetite.
We have never given him mashed or blended food as he was not impressed with the texture and had a very strong chewing action from the get go.
Through the day he is offered plenty of milk (formula and cows) and has well diluted juice with his meal.

4 bottles a day and 3 meals of solids.
Breakfast is baby cereal with fruit and cows milk.
For lunch it's either fish puree, chicken casserole, lentils, lamb casserole, beef casserole followed by homemade fruit puree.
Dinner is usually vegetables with pasta and/or cheese, some finger foods and then fruit puree.
Check out this website. It has got lots of fantastic baby food recipes: http://www.annabelkarmel.com/
I use it all the time.

i give a bottle in the morning with cereal in it, the rest of the day i give whatever we're eating ground down in an old moulin aux viandes (it gives a sort of mince consistancy to meat and pureed vegetables),i also give a crust of bread for him to work his teeth and small pieces of soft fruit like mango or banana. To be honest i don't think i'd not let him try anything he's so eager to try new tastes
