Hi Everyone, I have started my little girl on some rice cereal and a couple fruits and veggies, I am just not sure how much to give, she normally has 5 bottles a day, plus a little cereal in the morning, some veg and fruit at lunch (or cereal and fruit), and then veg and fruit at dinner. I always give her the solids after she has her bottle of Formula (about 1/2 hour after bottle), as I want to make sure she is getting her main source of nutrition from the milk.

So since I am just starting I just need to know how much solids at each meal people are giving so I have some ideas when I give her more and know how much I should up it, now I normally give a couple tbsp of each at each meal cause she is just starting.

Baby was on Pablum (rice cereal) for a good month before I started to introduce fruits and veggies.

Thanks!

My friend started this website and is very educated on the topic - check it out!

My son is just about to turn 7 months and at 6 months I started him on purees and am just getting ready to introduce other textures; this is in addition to 30oz of formula / day.

Many people like rice cereal and there's nothing wrong with it, but my doctor said it's empty calories for a baby that is old enough to eat more nutritional calories.

On a side note: I've let my son nibble on a banana that I was eating and although it's adorable, I don't suggest this ever. Their suck is so strong and he sucked a bite off. Nothing bad happened but I had to pull it out of his mouth.

Anyway, there are great purees you can blend!
-Apple, banana, pear (cook them first, except for the banana)
-Zuchinni and sweet potato (cook first)
-Avocado mixed with a fruit

I pour the purees in an ice tray, freeze and then put cubes in a ziplock to freeze.

Have fun!

My son is 7months and has been eating solids since 5 1/2 months so he is eating 3x per day - 3-4oz of solid food at each sitting. He usually has oatmeal or another grain for breakfast then a fruit/vegetable for lunch and another fruit/vegetable for dinner. He's still drinking about 25oz of breastmilk each day as well. I make all my own baby food and so far his favorites are baked apples (pureed), sweet potatoes (baked then pureed), and a banana/avocado mix. I love this website for ideas: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/. I know others have mentioned it too.

My daughter is almost 7 months old, still primarily breast milk, just started rice cereal a few weeks ago...only about a tablespoon full, I plan to make my own baby food, so we will probably start some fruits and veggies this month...I also found the website mentioned earlier - www.wholesomebabyfood.com - it's great!

Check out baby led weaning on google for some good ideas, my son eats toast, yogurt, steamed fruits and veggies, waffles, hummus, whatever we are eating, either whole or pulsed slightly in the food processor.

My daughter just turned 7 months old on the 6th, and when she turned 6 months old we started her on primarily solids. She had a sippy cup of formula in the morning with a 4oz jar of food (whatever I randomly grab) then a mid morning sippy cup of a juice then nap. For lunch she has another sippy cup of formula and a 4oz jar of food. late afternoon she has a sippy cup and another nap. After her nap she has a formula sippy cup and then for dinner she has 2 jars of baby food (8oz). Right before bed she has one more sippy cup of formula or some juice then passes out for almost 9 hours :) She does not have any more bottles at all and is holding her cups so good! In between feedings if she gets the munchies, I give her some "Biter Biscuits" or some cherrios to munch on...

I feed my son 4 bottles per day (each has 7 oz of formula and 1.5 tbs of rice cereal in each). He gets a level 2 jar of fruits after his morning feeding, a level 2 jar of veggies at his 2nd feeding, and a level 2 meat at his 3rd feeding or a level 3 meal. I hope that helps! For what it's worth, my pediatrician told me that a baby shouldn't have more than 32 ounces of formula or breast milk per day. My son is a BIG eater though, so don't necessarily go by what he eats! He had to start cereal at 7 weeks and fruits at 9 weeks because he was drinking more than the 32 ounces.

I was fully breastfeeding my son but at around 5 months he started manifesting anytime food was cooking or people ate around him. I started giving him mashed banana which he ate up then different veggies, boiled and pureed, one at a time. He's a great eater and screams in between mouthfulls for more! now at just 6 months he has half a weetabix, mixed with mashed banana and formula for breakfast, baby rice and veg for lunch and then veggies with lentils and some fish for dinner (a small bowl full each meal!). He still breastfeeds morning, afternoon and evening and sleeps 10 hours at night with 2 1-hour daytime naps (am/pm) - he's a perfect baby!:))

i've always went by what Kinsley's doctor said to do.
so at 4 months, she started on rice cereal...once she'd had that for a couple weeks, we started vegetables for lunch & dinner. then at her 6 month appointment the doctor said she can start having "meats". SO, now she gets rice cereal for breakfast, baby food with some juice at lunch, & same for dinner.

My daughter eats 7oz bottles every 5 hours. at around 4:30 (about 2-3 hours after 2nd bottle) I give her a single jar of food (2.5 oz. jar) either fruits or veggies. she seems to like all but green beans. and at night I give her a 7oz bottle with 2-3 tsp of rice cereal in it. and throughout the day she eats gerber graduates snacks.. the puffs are awesome. I would try breaking them in half until she gets used to not swallowing them whole! Hope this helps!

Hey, my daughter was 6months on the 27th of Sept., and she has been eating solids since 3 1/2 months. We started with just a couple of tblsps of rice cereal a day, then introduced veggies (so as not to get a sweet tooth) then fruits. She is now eating a whole container of 2nd foods fruits or veggies and 3-4Tblspns of rice (or oatmeal) cereal for breakfast and a couple oz of milk if she wants it. And up until yesterday she was having just cereal for supper. Now she is having lunch a 2/3 of a jar of 3rd food veggies or fruits and a bottle. Then for supper she will start having fruits and veggies and no cereal and her bottle. She is only drinking about 5 6-oz bottles a day. She is starting to refuse the formula a little. It doesn't keep her tummy full. The peds say this is ok, and meats should not be introduced until 8-9 months.

My daughter turned 6 mos on the 24th. I started her on rice cereal when she was 5 mos old. She was born to eat!! She opens her mouth everytime I eat something. She weighs 17lbs and has always been a big eater. The first day we started solids, she loved it so much, she ate 2 full bowls and still screamed for more. She was eating solids twice a day, but after reading other moms' comments, I know now that she's definately ready for 3 big meals a day. I thought maybe she was eating too much for her age, but I guess not enough, since she's growing so fast. She drinks less milk during the day, seems to eat more at night. She still wakes up every 3 or 4 hrs to eat at night. Maybe she doesn't get enough during the day. Had to switch her to formula, 'cause breastmilk was no longer enough for her. I still pump my milk twice a day and I'll try to do that for as long as I can.

my daughter gets around 29-34 ounces of formula a day(5 bottles) as well as 1 tablespoon of rice cereal & 1 tablespoon of organic "yellow" vegetables(carrots, squash). That is what our pediatrician has us doing. She also drinks purified water on occasion. We must be doing something right cause she sleeps 8-12 hours a night & is a VERY happy baby. :)

i have been feeding my boy blended sweet potato and pumpkin, he loves it. for a snack i usually feed him plain biscuits. He has his breakfast when he first wakes up (weetbix with his formula) then half and hour later he has a bottle to go to sleep (150ml). He wakes up an hour later and has a 100ml bottle and a biscuit then thats it until his sleep before lunch. when he wakes up he has a custard and if he needs it another 100ml bottle then 30 mins later another biscuit. he has another sleep at around 2pm - 3:30pm. Another 100mls when he wakes up as well as a peice of fruit usually watermelon or a whole banana then he has his dinner (blended foods) at 6:30pm then a final bottle of 150ml at 8pm before bed. he doesnt wake aagin until 5:30am for a 150ml bottle. If she is happily sleeping throughout the night and seems content during the day she is happy with what you give her. But too much food or milk with give her a stomachache so just be careful.... if she seems to want more of is grizzly after you take the food away try giving her a bit more :)

All babies are different but my daughter has been on rice cereal in bottle at bedtime since 4 days old, I started feeding her cereal from a bowl when she was 3 1/2 months old, and she started on stage 1 solids at 4 months and she has been stage 2 for a month she gets 1/4 cup of cereal or a 4oz beechnut goodmorning meal or fruit blend mixed w/ cereal w/ a 4 oz bottle, then a 6 bottle b/t brkf and lunch, and for lunch she gets 4oz of diluted juice w/ a gerber or beechnut dinner, then another 6 oz bottle between lunch and dinner and for dinner she gets a 4 oz bottle w/ 2-4ozs of a veggie then after her bath at night she gets a 4oz bottle w/ 2 teaspoons of cereal in it. She is a super active child, big for her age, not fat at all but she is 29 inched long and 22lbs so she is height and weight porportionate and growing very quickly so she is demanding alot of calories

Morgan is still only eating mommy milk. I tried rice cereal about 2 weeks ago and she was not at all interested. She officially turned 6 months today. Since they recommend starting solids at 6 months I'm going to try again now.

I've been wondering if maybe something other than cereal might go over better...

I started Iyanna on baby food at 4 months. She started with fruit and cereal for breakfast, and I gradually introduced her to veggies and meats into five months of age. At six months getting ready to turn seven months she eats 3 meals a day with a bottle or sippy cup of formula inbetween. Breakfast is cereal/fruit, lunch is stage 2 dinners and for dinner meat and a veggie. Sometimes she drinks juice as well, but she's not a huge fan so far of juices. Hope that helps!!!

Eva started solid foods at 5 1/2 months with oatmeal cereal..... she has also had rice cereal as well as whole grain cereal. I have given her all of the stage 1 & 2 baby food vegetables and fruits and have started her on the 8 month foods which have a chunky consistency. She is doing really will with her food, there hasn't been anything that she doesn't like so far. I am going to start making her baby food and freezing it as there are more foods I'd like to feed her that aren't offered as baby food. I mainly breastfeed still and am only feeding her solids of cereal and fruit for breakfast and fruit veggies and meat for supper. She will eat as much as a small jar or as little as a few spoonfuls... I let her dictate the amount....

My daughter is 6 months and she is eating porridge for breakfast, a jar of baby food for lunch and then meat and veg for tea plus a dessert - either fruit or yoghurt. She has an 8oz bottle in between each meal and then one before bed. Throughout the day if me or my partner are eating anything like a biscuit, fruit, etc... we will give her some as well to include her. Im pretty much trying her with anything she wants now as she is starting to hold her hand out if she sees us eating something so we let her try and its going really well. She is putting on weight exactly as she should be and is coping really well!

Well I just started recently with food to! We started with Veggies and just went through the veggie list and now we are starting fruit. They say you should try each thing out for a week just to make sure there are no problems...so we did greenbeans, carrots, sweet potato, peas, broccoli, coliflower, and then you can do all the fruits there are a lot....I asked my pediatrician about how much...she told me you can either do at every meal although there bottle is still the main thing. So a tablespoon if they are really into eating...if not like my daughter we do at lunch and dinner just a little bit....which is just enough right now. Sounds like your totally on the right track...its hard to figure things out at first! I am doing the same as you!

I've had my son on solids and fruit juice since he was 4 months old I know it seems young but when he gains 1.5 pounds a month you kinda have to slow down the bottles. I give him any soft foods off of my plate so he will feel like a big boy or if we are eating out a buffet i go for potatoes or what he enjoys most: sweet potatoes. I give him what I can when I can to introduce him to as much as possible. but docs normally say 4 oz of baby food a day with regular bottles even if it is 2 oz at a sitting. that is what I was told I just pump whatever I can into my little one cause he never gets 4 oz in a day.

Hi Sarah actually you are doing great. Your schedule sounds similiar to what I did with my son. At six months my pediatrician told me that they can have anything pretty much as long as it's pureed. I tried mashed potatoes and Andrew absolutely loved it! The more solids you give her you will find that the amount of milk decreases though b/c Andrew has three bottles now per day. He has one jar of fruit with abou 5 tblsp of cereal in the AM. At lunch one jar of the stage 2 fruit and veggie and then at dinner One jar of a fruit and veggie or and Beechnut evening food mix with mashed potatoes.

Hey..My name is Lori and my son just turned 6 months old. I started him on the rice cereal at 2 months old and he has been on fruits and veggies for about 2 1/2 months. What I usually do is give him his friuts and veggies (and starting meats) before i give him his bottle because sometimes giving him the bottle before will make him not hungry for his solids. I give him about half a jar of each..as i always have. Hope this was helpful!!

My son is 6 months October 1, he eats stage 1 food with cereal in the morning. Just the baby food for lunch & cereal with the food for dinner. He eats the entire container & about three small scoops of cereal. He also drinks about 5 bottles a day. The doctor wants all stage 1 foods introduced for 3 days in a row to see of he has a reaction to them. I think the next step is giving him stage 2 food. Hope this helps!
