Just wondering if any knows how many BM a 5 week old breastfeed baby should be having daily. My little girl was having at least 1-2 a day but hasn't had one in 24 hours. I was just wondering if anyone knows if this is something to be concerned about or if BM tend to slow down as the baby gets older.

It is completely normal for a b/fed baby to go up to 7 days without a bowel motion, as long as they are happy, and tummy not sore and tight, they are fine.

My son is almost 8 weeks and has done the same thing. He went 24hrs once and then almost 48 hrs another time without having a poop and then had a blow out! I think it is OK as long as it doesn't go over a week. That's what I read. He never acted like not pooping bothered him either. I think as long as the baby isn't acting any differently then it's OK.

If its any consolation my baby did exactly this, only at 6 weeks. Went from having several BMs a day, and then all of a sudden, he didn't have any for four days! I was worried, but the doctors reassured me that this is normal for breast fed babies. He now has 1 BM a day, or even every two days.

Mines did the same..went for 3 days without one...then the BIG poop came.. they said its normal....

Thank you everyone she is back to going once a day. Today it even came out of her diaper and all over my arm during her feeding lol

My son is 6 weeks and last week he went throguh the same thing. He had very few bowel movements in a 48 hour period. Don't worry your baby will go. My son is back to going again.

my son also has had a day here and there without a BM just wet nappies, this is normal and isnt consitpation if the BM is loose when it does come, dont worry you will have a very full nappy to change before you know it so enjoy the odd stink free day :)

My girl slowed down last week when she hit the 5 week mark. she was having 3-4 and all of the sudden went down to 1. Her doctor said they usually go down to 1/day or even 1 every other. She also said anything bigger than a quarter (ie those little ones) counts. As long as she has plenty of wet diapers she is getting enough.
