My son is 14 mths old now and has had nails that look a bit funny since he was born. The peads had adv it could be a fungal infection but has not prescribed any meds. His nails look like they were squashed by a door or something and both the toe nails have cracks in the middle and he does not like me touching them so I think they do hurt a bit.Any advice on what it could be?

If the pediatrician said it could be a fungal infection then maybe they just got in a hurry and forgot to prescribe something for it? Unfortunately that does happen. You said it looks squashed? My brothers (2 of them) had a nail issue mostly with big toes when they were kids, but they were raised and if remember right kind of yellow looking. I know most of it was taken care of with a combination of med and keeping it really clean. But, one of them was let go too long and they ended up taking the nail off and letting a new one grow in it's place while treating for the problem, but this was not pleasant. Besides the ouch factor there is also the worry of infection. I would make an appointment with your son's doctor just for this issue so that it is their priority when you take him in.
