Age, go by weeks or calendar month?

My son was born March 24, 2010. Each month on the 24th he is one month older, correct? I know someone who is going by weeks, like her son is 20 weeks today, August 2, 2010, so he is 5 months old, but his birthday was March 15, 2010. Does this make sense? There are 52 weeks in a year, if you divide that by 4 weeks you would get a total 13 months in one year. Which is the correct way to depict your childs age? I go by calendar month, so August 24, 2010 my son will be 5 months old.

Four weeks doesn't equal a month because most months are longer than 28 days. They're usually 4 weeks and 2-3 days. So you wouldn't say that because he is 20 weeks, he's 5 months old. He will be 5 months old on August 15th.

I know this question had been answered over and over, but just a note from yet another proud mommy, when I made my son's appointment for his four month check up, they told me I had to wait till he was four months which would be on by the date of birth, not weeks. My son was born March 7, 2010, so he had his five month birthday yesterday!! Yay!!

It is confusing and I don't understand it either but my son was also born on March 24th, 2010 : )

you can go either way, but I usually go by weeks until 12 and then months, and the next month is on that date. Try being in our situation... our little one was born on the 31st!

It's just like pregnancy... people say you are preggers for 10 mo. b/c it's 40 weeks, but really it's only 9 b/c some months have more than 4 weeks.

I still go by weeks, she's 18 weeks now but actually turned 4 months a week ago. I'm going to start going by months when she hits about 20 weeks I think. People ask how old she is and I answer in weeks and they're like soo how many months is that? so yeah, time to drop the weeks I think. It was exciting to count like that at first but now I'm losing track haha

It is confusing...At 1st I was going by every 4 weeks...But everyone told me that is incorrect...
My baby girl was born March 28th, so this August 28th, she will be 5 months!

I go by months. The 4th of each month Mason gets a month older. He just turned 5 months on August 4th.

I go by calendar month, after all, if we went by weeks, we would be having our birthdays on a different date each year.

I went by weeks until 4 mos, then I go by mos until age 2, then I go by years. :)

Going by weeks just doesn't seem right. If every 4 weeks my son was a month older then by the time his first birthday came around he would already be 13 months! There are only 12 months in a year. I think it's simple math :)

I also find it hard to figure this out and have asked many times, so now I say that my daughter is 4.5 months old (as she was born on March 15th) and when talking with the doctor, I mention the weeks. It should be one way all around as it is confusing.

It usually goes by either, usually they use weeks for development (a dr thing). As for birthdays, its by month. My hubby would like mention (as he has to me several times) there is more than 4 weeks in a months, except FEB (unless its leap year) Weeks are just more of an accurate time period. BUT... yay its the second, my son was born on 3-2-10 (blast off!!)... so he is now 5 months :)
