this past week ive been getting mild contractions which im only assuming they are Braxton Hicks.

they last for a couple of hours off and on during the time period. longest one i had was 30 sec about every 10-15 min.

i drank water and hot baths, plus put my feet up.. but its to the point where its getting annoying.

Any tips to help stop it or ease the pain... I am 27 weeks and 4 days as of today.

Time to call in for help to get everything ready for her arrival. At this point you will most likely come home before she does and will have some time to get things ready after her arrival. I'm sure everything will work out and you have been getting the steroid shots so her lungs will be better developed then if you did not have them. Good luck to you and your family.

Update!

I am at 32 weeks now.. baby is now up to 4lbs. I go in every week for steroid injections and an ultra sound. Babys head is still down and my cervix is thinned out. Found out today my cervix is now open even being on bed rest the past 4 weeks. I have 2 times more fluid then normal and was told Im like a ticking time bomb.. Baby can come any day and at any time.. I am not ready for this, and I still have nothing for her :(.

Annette,
I'm expecing our second child and at 28 weeks I also had braxton hicks contractions after my dr tested me to see if I would deliver in the next 2 weeks, she then discovereed that my cervix was already thin but closed. She is checking me every 2 weeks and said that I would go on bed rest and get the steroid shots, if my test results came back positive. I'm waiting to hear what my 30 week test results are. For the last 2 weeks my husband and I have been nervous that our little boy will be born before 36 weeks. So I share your fears. Hang in there and rest as much as you can, also listen and trust that your dr is doing everything that they can to keep your little girl in you until the steroids developed her lungs evough so she will not need as much medical attention after birth. Good luck to you and your family. Please keep us posted on you and your babies health.

Hi Annette,
I too have a child who is almost two years old. Hang in there! I am sorry that your labor has started so early. I will definitely be prayin for you. It must be quite a challenge to stay off your feet with being pregnant and being a mom of two little ones. The best advice I can tell you is ... lie down. Try to stay off of your feet. The kids may be young, but they can be a great help to you.
I am really glad you contacted the doctor. It is better safe than sorry!

My Doc told me to drink a big glass of H20, and lay down... if they persist, call the Doc or go to the ER.

Well unfortunately what i am having are not braxton hicks.. Doctor says i wont deliver in the next 2 weeks but most likely in the next 4 weeks for sure... So they are pumping me full of steroids and meds to slow down the contractions and help the baby develop more. I go into the hospital every week for more injections and an ultra sound to see how much she develops. I tell you it will be a long 4 weeks head of me, just hope nothing else goes wrong...

hey annette
ive been getting braxton hicks since around 20 weeks but in the last few days ive been getting them every 10 minutes and they last around 20 mins, ive also been getting a lot of lower abdominal pain and pressure "down there" i rang the hospital and they told me to come in and they monitored me and said that babys head is engaged and im actually getting mild contractions!! they ended up sending me home and ive been on bed rest for the last 3 days, its pretty scary stuff being my first child and im only 32 weeks! my suggestion is if you are worried about braxton hicks or anything really just ring the maternity section of your local hospital and they will advise you on whats normal etc,
all the best, jess :)

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and my doctor actually told me to have intercourse with my fiancee. It sounds really wierd, and I did not think it would be okay to do. But, to tell you the truth, they have become such milder since we have. It's a fun and simple way to ease them away. Hope it goes well.

well i have an update on this.. This is my 3rd pregnancy. And im actaully in pre-term labor. having Contractions every 3-5min already been in the hospital 3-4 times. Starting next week ill be going in every week for injections for the contractions. they cant stop them at all, but are trying to delay as much as they can. Baby weighs 2.8lbs and im about 28 weeks and 4 days. Im already dialating and the babys head is down..

Im in so much pain, they wont give me anything because the baby is not handling meds well with what i am already on. I am scared and i just hope she will be ok :(

Im sorry that you are dealing with this. I am also experiencing a lot of BH contractions and it gets to the point where it worries me at times. This is my second pregnancy and i have read that they can be more intense during subsequent pregnancies. I have also had several UTI's this pregnancy which can irritate your uterus. I just try to rest and drink as much as I can when they start to act up. I just had an appointment with my doctor and had them check me and the contractions have had no effect on my body so i just assume this is normal for me. If i were to call every time i had more than 4 in an hour my doctor would be sick of me! Good luck to you!

Is this your first? I barely noticed them with my first, but with subsequent pregnancies they were obvious and annoying. The good news? They really get you ready for labor, and when the real thing hit it was pretty quick, my body had done a lot of the work in the months prior. Do check with your dr if you're concerned though - I went into 'labor' at 30 weeks because I had a uterine infection. The only thing I noticed were increased Braxton-Hicks. My labor was stopped with terbutyline and the infection treated, but do follow your instincts and play it safe.

My dr. has told me over and over I should not have more than 4 in an hour span. If they are that consistent you may want to call your dr. just to be on the safe side.

Braxton Hicks contractions are normal, "practice" contractions for real labor. They help get your uterus in shape for when the time comes for the real thing. If you are experiencing more than 4 or 5 every hour then you need to call your healthcare provider. Especially if they are growing longer and/or more intense as time goes by. It may just be normal BH but you should call just to be safe. If it is really BH then there really isn't much you can do other than just relax and wait for them to pass. Just think of it as your body warming up for baby to come :)
