Hey everyone!! I'm 23 weeks and for the past 2 weeks or so my back has been absolutely killing me !!! I've tried warm baths . a heating pad . and tylenol. Nothing seems to be working ! It does help if I stand, but who wants to stand all the time? It also helps if I lay on my back - but we all know that's not allowed too much.

Anyone have any advice on ways to lessen the sharp pains???

what i found to work for me, at least for a short period of time was to stand at a table or chair with your feet about a foot away from it, lean/bend over while keeping your feet in the same place. it is kinda painful as the muscles begin to stretch but it really worked for me. it helps to stretch the muscles out. the farther down i go and hold that position for a while the better it makes my back feel. hope it works for you also

i'm 30 weeks and my back kills me in the middle of the night. i've found it's not as bad if i do that pelvic excercise i learned in class befor i go to bed. lay on your back with your knees bent and rock your pelvis up to the roof then back to the bed. do it 40 times it might help

I am having the same problem I'm 32 weeks & I have a constant backache. I also feel better when I sleep on my back. Try putting a pillow under one side or the other of your back so you are not flat on your back but slightly elevated on one side.I find warm compresses help. You should get a birth ball & either sit on it & rock side to side or front to back it helps me. Also a very supportive husband who is willing to give you a back massage every night before bed to help relieve the pain so you can sleep better.

I wish I could help you but I'm in the same boat I'm afraid. I'm almost 34 weeks pregnant with my first baby and my back aches nearly all the time. It's my lower back and some nights I can't fall asleep because it aches so much. Also my ribs are aching like crazy where my baby is taking up so much room. I can't wait for her to come out and give me my body back. I did, however, feel ever so slightly better after a hot bath, and I've decided to give birth in a birthing pool so hopefully that'll ease some of my labour pains. Other than that, my baby is torturing my body as much as everyone else is being tortured by theirs. It's worth it though hey! Good luck everyone, and hopefully all the back ache will be gone after birth. xxx

My doctor gave me a pamphlet with stretches to help your back and they really help. I also started to do prenatal yoga and prenatal pilates- they help AND I've heard exercising while pregnant makes your labor go quicker. Also my doctor suggested physical therapy and/or a chiropractor. Good luck!

what helped me was a pregnancy pillow i use when i sleep. i used to wake up with back pain all the time but this pillow is amazing. it supports your stomach and goes between your legs. it has helped me so much. go to bobby.com and look for the cuddle pillow its great.

You could try
http://www.brauer.com.au/product_results...
It is safe to use during pregnancy. Of course this is only treating the symptoms and not preventing the problem. If it is from weak muscles, try strengthening them to to prevent the prob. Could be the positioning of bubs and all you can really do is find ways to releive the pain....GOOD LUCK!

My doctor suggested something called a prenatal cradle I work on my feet all day and it is made to lift the weight off of your back by lifting your belly up. You can find them on amazon.com for about $15. Worth a try like you I have tried heating pads and warm showers. The only other option me and my finance had was to buy a new mattress which I think has defiantly helped if your bed is to soft it might be the culprit.

I'm 24 weeks pregnant. I had a very sore back weeks ago that just seemed to be getting worse. So I tried swimming and it has helped so much!
I try to go 2-3 times a week. My back pain has totally gone.
Good luck :o)

Ive started seeing a Chiropractor. The chiropractors are all trained to work with pregnant women. She adjusts me and has me ice and i feel great. (my back pain has been severe due to an accident i had in late january last year and then lately since i started growing a lot in my tummy..my back started killing me.

they're not expensive to go to ..i go once bi-weekly and its amazign how well i feel now... when my back starts hurting i just drive right over to the dr office and have her adjust me.

I am on my second pregnancy and I'm 24wks and I've been dealing with sciatic pain in my back...this is my second time dealing with sciatica and it can really hurt!! You should check with your doctor to see if that is the cause of your pain. For me simple things like picking up my son, pushing a cart or stroller, sitting cross legged on the floor, sitting or standing for too long can make it worse; Tylenol doesn't work for me either, heat will lessen the pain a little, slow movements, and a pillow between my legs at night will help but other then that I haven't found anything else to help. Good luck!

i would be SUPER careful with back pain!!! I am 22 weeks and for the past 4 days i had HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! back pain. this is my first pregnancy and i know im clueless as far as what to expect but this was a sharp CONSTANT pain in my lower right side of my back. i was applying icy hot and i was using a heating pad and a lot of hot baths but it was getting to a point i couldnt sleep or walk or anything without pain.

I went to the doctors.. come to find out it was my kidneys!!! i had a UTI a couple weeks ago and was given antibiotics but i guess it wasnt prescribed long enough or something because the UTI got bad but i never realized. I didnt have any burning when i peed or any other symptom they asked me. just a horrible constant back ache!!!! I am currently on 2 antibiotics and they said it will go away in 24 hours! its been 20 hours and i feel AMAZING!!!! thank god. i thought i was going to DIE!

Just to elaborate on the post above definitely keep your feet elevated in a comfy chair!

I've had back problems since I was 15 so pregnancy hasn't helped me and heat pads are really quite useless! I've found using a hot water bottle is much better as it overs more of an area. Lean on one whilst your feet are up and get comfy : )

Hi,

I am at 24 weeks and have had back pain from my first baby, I would say the best thing you can do is try putting a supportive pillow behind your back when you are sitting up that really helped me or even getting up and walking around once it starts that helps too, keeping your feet elevated helps too, i hope this helps
