I have still been using a stage one nipple for my bottle fed little guy, but am planning on starting to use stage 2 or medium flow nipples. I was just wondering what all you other mommys are using and how your babies are reacting to the nipples. thanks!

We had purchased a ton of Dr. Brown's bottles but 4 weeks after Patrick was born our doc had us start adding rice to his bottles & they constantly clogged. So now we use the regular evenflo ones with stage 3 nipple X cross. My son was working way too hard with the stage 2. Now he will eat up to 8 oz, with the stage 2 he would eat that much but he would take forever & get really worn out.

when we started my son on rice cereal the pediatrician had us use stage 2 nipples. with cereal added to his milk it flows better and does not clog up the nipple. do what you think is best and if you are really concerned just ask your pediatrician what they think.

Alex has been using medium flow nipples for a few weeks. His very first feeding after we switched was a little off, but that's to be expected. He's doing excellently with them, however I'm considering going up to the fast flow now. I went up to medium because he seemed to be sucking SO hard on the slow flows, and now he seems to be putting that much effort into the mediums as well.

I am so bad about the nipples. I give her 3 different types of bottles and nipples. I guess I am lucky because she is not picky. I don't really understand different nipples. Why do they have stages? My LO is 3 months tommorrow. She eats out of anything!

My son is 11.5 weeks, and I switched him to stage 2 nipples a couple of weeks ago because he wasn't eating well and would tire out after 3 or 4 oz. Now he eats 6 or 7 oz per feeding and is able to go 4 hrs between meals. He just dribbles more than with the stage 1 nipples, so we go through a lot of bibs.

Well, I got out all my stage 2 nipples, and the ventaire ones are too fast for him, but the dr Brown's stage 2 seem to be just perfect for him.

My son is 3 months old and the formula that he is on has rice cereal already in it so it is a little thicker than normal formula, so we had to switch to the fast flow nipples when he started the formula about 2 months ago.

Hi Sheila i just switched myself to stage 2 but a few weeks ago i did the old trick of widening the whole myself a few weeks ago lol. Everything seems to be fine...I did find out at the doctor that the latex ones that i was using are no good. BTW im glad i saw your post because i was just reading some other stories from breastfeeding moms and I was beginning to feel really bad that my Laila didn't take the breast very well. I had complications in the hospital & afterwards that made it difficult to breastfeed. Nice 2 meet another bottle mommy :)

I've had to start using a stage 2 (medium flow) nipple due to us adding rice cereal (per our pediatrician) to his bottles.....he adjusted very well, and if by accident I use a stage 1, he doesn't get it fast enough (or it clogs up) and he lets me know it! He gets upset and fusses at me! :)

I am still using stage 1. With my son, I switched to stage 2 nipples when he was about 4mos old. If your kid seems to be eating fine with the stage 1, I'd leave it. If they start to choke with the stage 2 you can always go back to the stage 1....

Will has been regularily taking 6 oz with the stage 1, I hate to think he'll start drinking more on stage 2!!!!! Looks like I should search out where I put my stage 2 nipples. :)

I just bought the stage 2 nipple yesterday and only use it for her before bed feed to see how she's been tolerating it and she seems to be doing just fine! She will suck down 6 oz every time she uses it, and it seems to keep her asleep a tad bit longer. I feel like she always has to suck and suck to get the milk out and would always get too tired to drink past 4 oz. I'd buy a pack just to try it out? You never know!

my son is almost three months now. he is breastfead but i am suplimenting with formula also. he is comfortable with the stage one nipple still and from what ihave read i should stick with that until about 6 months. so far i have found that books tend to over exagerate just like with clothing and how it should fit at whatever age. (lol it doesn't) i was planning on waiting and seeing how it goes but probably not changing the nipple to stage two until he was 4 to 5 months.

i tried to switch his soother to stage two and he hated it and i knew right away he wasnt ready for it, maybe you should try that, it might work for you too.
