Has anyone elses bubbies started to get a rash or eczema? Just in the last week my son has been getting a rash on his belly which comes and goes then in the last few days he's been getting it really bad on his face on his chin and around his eyes. Can anyone recommend any good creams that are efficient and safe to use on baby's skin?

Eczema is a condition that affects about 20% of children, and for cases that go beyond dry skin, it'd be best to consult a doctor and also have prescription to treat eczema flares urgently.

For moisturizing, choose a cream from an established brand and without ingredients like fragrance, preservatives and color/dye.

For topical cream, ask your doc for a safe potency and frequency for children, for more on potency, refer to this chart:

Our doc suggested eucerine cream which seems to be working!

My son has eczema is all his creases (neck, inner elbow, back of the knee, under the ear lobe, ankles). We use cortizone (over the counter cream) and it works really well if applied regularly!

I will be trying the Aveeno for the bath, though, since we currently use J&J.

My son has eczema all over his stomach and back. It was starting to spread to his legs and arms. My doctor said to use Eucerin Aquaphor 3 times a day. We started last week and it really is amazing the difference it has made. The Aquaphor is very greasy feeling but very effective. You can get it at your local Walmart for around $16.00 for a good size tub of it. We also use Aveeno baby bath and we only give him a bath every other day to not dry out his skin. Hope this helps :o)

My baby was born with eczema which sadly he inherited from me. I bath him with Johnson & Johnsons fragrance free aqueous cream & rub him down with Epi-Max Aqueous cream for Juniors. Oilatum is very good & quite dear. Best advice - only use fragrance free products. Good Luck.

hi my baby has eczema and its really quite bad inside his ears. We were prescribed oilatum for the bath and aveeno cream. We also use sudocream and the trick is smother him in it as often as possible, everytime we change his bum or ipe his face etc and it seems to be getting so much better. Doesn't appear to be bothering him at all much now :)

I used to use Renew but when my son had a little bit of eczema it didn't work, so I switched to Aveeno baby on his rash, like my doctor recommended, and it worked.

Think about what foods you may have introduced lately, babies sometimes have very suttle reactions like that at first. Do you use fabric softner in his laundry or have you changed detergents (both are common culprits). Drool commonly causes a rash on chins (but doesn't explain under his eyes....)

My baby has always had sensitive skin and so per our doctors instructions I use Ivory body wash on him because it doesn't dry out skin like soaps do. He breaks out in rash more when I use Johnsons baby lotion, but I seem to be able to get away with Aveeno baby lotion, when he gets rash I have a steroid cream to put on it, but the pharmacist said it was also safe to use cortisone cream (over - the- couter), mine is just stronger.

I use Renew lotion. I have eczema and so does my son. I love it and its not too thick or greasy like otehr lotions. and a plus...its all natural so there's no chemicals and other junk in it lik Johnsons and Johnsons. The company I work for sells it if you're interested.

My baby has severe ezema. Dr prescribed a mild steroid cream for flare up and told me the only moisturizer that really works is Aquaphor ... its greasy but only i found that works. Just put it on at naptimes and bed time so you dont have to deal with the greasy-ness during day.

Thanks! I will try the dermaveen and see how I go. I've used the same moisturiser and bath wash on him since he was born and I use the natural creams (Gaia) thinking they should be the best for his skin. I haven't tried anything new on him so I dont think it's a reaction to any product unless of course he's having a reaction to the foods I've tried him on as that gets messy and goes all over his face. I did point it out to the Dr on friday but he said it was just a bit of eczema and not to worry, he's not the best Dr so I thought I would turn to here for some other suggestions. He also suggested sorbolene but I don't think that will clear up his face. I have bought another cream I found in the chemist so I will also give that a go and see how I go. Thanks for your comments and suggestions, much appreciated!

You probably will want to make sure he isn't having a reaction to something. I would take him in and get him checked out.

Hey, I wash my bub in dermaveen shower and bath oil (its to help dry and itchy skin and symptoms of ezcema. Australian product) and also lather sorbolene cream on her morning and night to keep her skin moisturised. Although i just heard that sorbolene cream on certain people can irritate the skin more.. I stopped using all the usual baby creams and oils as soon as i found out it was ezcema and ive been slowly introducing them one at a time to see which ones give her reactions. Probably a good idea to see a doctor if its close to the eyes..
