when can i start feeding him a little rice cereal in his formula? he eats 4 ounces about every 3 hours or on demand. he spits up all the time will it help if i start the cereal? he was born 3/17/10

My doctor instructed me to put cereal in my daughter's bottle to help with her reflux. Basically he told me to put a teaspoon of cereal per ounce of formula. Ive found that one of the formula scoops equals two teaspoons of rice cereal, so when making her 4 ounce bottle i do two scoops of formula and two scoops of cereal. She is doing very well on it. The only thing ive noticed is that it makes her put on more weight. We went to her 2 month check up today and she was in the 90% for weight....the doctor said that she is doing fine so ill continue to give her the cereal. Good luck!

My ped says 4mos for cereal. My little girl will eat 4oz every 4 hours during the day on demand. But she will sleep 7 hours at night. When my son was this age he was still only eating 2oz every 2 hours. He refused to eat any more than that at one time. At night he would sleep about 3-4hours at a time between feedings. Some peds will say to put a pinch of cereal in the bottles for babies with acid reflux...

My daughters pediatrician doesn't recommend cereal until 4 months old...ask your pediatrician. :-)

I just started this week, he's 9 weeks old. We put it in his formula(1 tsp) of cereal. Mason eats 7oz every 3 hours.

Doctors don't recommend that you feed a baby anything but breast millk or formula until they are 6 months old.

mine was born 3/3/10...she eats 5-6 ounces every 4 hours soo I started feeding her five ounces of formula with one ounce of rice cereal before bed and she loves it and she sleeps all night. It is entirely up to the mother about when to start (:
