I have an 11 month old little girl who is starting to drink less and less of her formula and instead just plays with the bottle. She has 3 bottles a day (approx 8oz) with her breakfast, lunch and supper as well as a sippy cup throughout the day filled with water that she drinks from. Is this a sign to start giving her whole milk and transitioning her out of formula or should i consult with her doctor? I know they say it is best for babies to stay on formula until a year, I am just concerned she will not get what she needs to help her grow. Have any moms switched to milk earlier than a year? How did your child take to it and how did you transition them? Was it cold turkey switch or gradual?

I am just giving my son (10.5 months) homo milk in his sippy throughout the day and he still has about 3 8oz bottles which is enough (20oz of formula is sufficient). I am hopin to just switch him by doin this as then he corresponds the sippy with homo milk which hopefully he likes better than formula and gradually decrease the amount of formula he gets in his bottle. I had problems getting my daughter to give up the bottle so hopin by never puttin homo or any juice in bottle (he gets water in bottle at night right now as is horrible sleeper and wont take a soother but never during day) he will eventually be off his bottle by 14 months or so (his sister was on day bottle til 18 months and night bottle til like 22 months!!). Has not caused any problems in son yet and my daughter was switched at 10 months and no problems with her. It does affect some kids and you willl know right away if it affects yours! Hopefully it goes smoothly though:)

I made the transition. I know for my LO I have to warm the bottles becuase she was not used to cold, otherwise she had no problem.

I have the same problem...Only my son is only getting like 17 ounces a day. i am worried but it is comforting to know that it seems to be normal for them to start having less!

According to my ped...3 8oz bottles at this age is fine. My daughter only drinks 3 bottles during the day, and sometimes she will wake at night and get a bottle then too. She is hitting a little bit of a growth spurt right now. I personally would wait until she is a year old before switching her off formula. Milk has way less vitamins and nutrients than formula. The way I switched my son was 1/4 milk 3/4 formula for a few days then 50/50 for a few days, etc until straight milk.

I have started introducing the milk to my son who turned 11 mo's on the 1st. I am hoping to have him completely off of formula by his b-day so that we can have a couple of months off of buying formula before our newest little one is born. I have been trying different sippy cups to see what one he likes. It's a long process and hopefully he will take to it soon cause I want him off the bottle by the time he is 1 too.

My son turns 11 mos on the 5th and I am starting the transition. I will probably do half formula and half milk and then switch to only milk in his sippy cups. right now he only gets a bottle at night before bed. The rest of the day he gets sippy cups with either water or formula. She may just be full from her meals, which is why she is spending more time playing than drinking. Plus, it's always fun to throw things on the floor and have mom pick them up. It might also just be easier for her to drink out of the sippy cup than a bottle now. I do think most drs say milk at one year, and you probably should talk to yours about what they think. I know I want to make sure my little guy gets the nutrition and brain food he needs.
