How to make my baby poo?

So I wrote about dark Karo syrup and prunes...well it worked at first but now i am back to square one! He is still having hard ones and it hurts him. I have stopped solids alltogether untill it gets batter! Had to give him a suppository and that worked but a few days later he is back to hard poos! I have tried everything! He will not take any extra juice or water..if its not time to eat formula then he doesnt want it!! And his appitie is gone too! sometimes he only take 3 oz as well!!! UUUGGHHH is right! going to the doctors tomorrow but I cant imagine what he will tell us that we havent already tried!
I feel your pain Stefanie!!! The only difference is my baby is having bm's everyday but they are small and hard! They often tear his poor behind! Cant wait to find a solution...I feel so bad for my little one!

I sent my baby to the doc last thurs for a big purge after no signs of poo for 12 days. The doc then suggested i make spinach soup or porridge for my baby as it contains lots of fibre. It certainly works as my baby poo again the next day after he took about 10 teaspoons of the spinach soup. But the soup is not that tasty and my baby rejected it the following day. He takes 2 oz of prune juice everyday (this is the max he will drink) but his sluggish bowel system somehow does not react to it. I have also cut out spice and fried food from my diet. Am observing the lapse this time round....it has been 3 days already. Doc said that if this continues, he would likely refer us to see the gastroenterologist.

Haven't encountered, but my mom told me remedies they have used over the years. A drop of Karo syrup in their water or milk should help. Also check with your Ped on anything else. My Ped told me about something as well, but I can't think of the name right now, but I know it was another type of syrup.

I also did the karo syrup for my second son when he was a baby. It worked. I hope little baby feels better soon.

hi, i know the method is not reccomended often in australia, but just because if not done properly - can cause some demage. I am talking about enema with luke water. It is a method we used in Europe, and which was used widely in europe when I was a child. when I googled it, I found some advice on american natural medicine website with instruction how to do it properly. I used it for both my kids (now 4yo and 6 months old) and it helped immediately, as it is hard to buy empty enema in shops, I used the little sacking bottle which comes with saline nosal drops. This is what I do and what I personally think is safe, but please do more reading about it and ask your doctors, as I am not medical profesionalist or anything like this, I just do what everyone was doing years ago back in Europe

I am so sorry that things have not improved for you. There are a few more things that you can do to help.



* baby oatmeal

* no fruit - contary to the normal

* discontinue baby rice cereal - causes constipation



If breastfeeding mom can try

* Eliminating fruit and wheat from diet

* Eat a low fat diet

* Drinking 1/2 cup of coconut milk - watered down

* Eat oatmeal

* Drink one tablespoon of rice vinegat in 8 ounces of water 2xs daily

* Eat Quaker corn bran cereal

I would really try the baby frunes food. Try giving it too him at every meals until he finally poops. Then start using it less. The baby prunes food really works well with our boy.

While doing that continue with the leg exercises and tummy massage.

It may come down to where you might have to stimulate his little butt hole. You do this by taking a thermometer, put a disposable cover over it, lube it up and gentle insert it into his butt hole. We had to do this a few times when our little guy was a few weeks old. Something else you can try.

today is day 6 and still no sign of any bowel movement. Tried the exercises, massage and prune juice but still no poop. He is probably feeling very bloated now. Drinking only 3 oz of milk every 3 hours and rejecting all forms of solid food. His appetite will only come back after he poo and the whole vicious cycle will come back again....sigh....

Thanks Leilani for the reassurance. The PD said the same thing regarding the wet diapers and that my son prob has lazy intestines that require some stimulation. can't do much about it right?

my son had tht problem all i did was gave him 2oz of water with 2oz of apple juice and maybe 2 or 3 spoons of apple sauce and he was fine but i found out the reason why he was having problem cuz of the formula wic had him on was backing him up so he is on different formula and doing fine.

My son has started on solid foods also and has some bm issues. I have tried giving him prunes and that works. But as a reassurance, it is ok if your baby only goes every 7-10 days. They can go up to 10 days without pooping as long as your little one has a good wet diaper. I know that you might think that it is not normal, but this is the same advise I give my patients. You can try giving him infant glycerin suppository if he is having a hard time pushing. It usually works within 15 mins to an hour. Also add more liquid in his diet, a mixture of one part apple juice and one part water. Also doing some exercise with your child helps.... lay him down on his back and move his legs towards his belly then out, almost like a bicycle motion. Hope this helps. Goodluck

my daughter wouldnt poo so now that she is on the rice cereal i put a baby spoonfull of prunes into the cereal and she went minutes after feeding her that, its a natural way to get them to go so why not give it a try, though i have not tried this i hear a bit of warm water in a bottle helps too. good luck

I just wanted to give a heads up on using Karo Syrup/Corn Syrup. I read an article warning not to use it cause it can cause problems for the baby or be not very safe. Click on this link www.mayoclinic.com/health/karo-syrup-for.../AN01826
and read more about it. I just think it's important to read about these certain things before you decide to try it on your baby. It may work on certain babies but what if it has the wrong effect on your own baby. Please read the article before using it. Really, using baby prunes food and the prune juice is very effective.

I have heard food that begins with "P" work...I gave my son 1 tbls Dark Karo syrup in hs bottle 2 times a day and it worked like a charm! I also used oatmeal instead of rice i mixed it with prune juice and water!

Try eliminating gluten from your diet and his. Do not eat anything with wheat, barley, or rye for one week. See if that helps. For some people these foods can constipate.

you can give him up to 4oz of 100% apple juice thats pasturized, usually 2oz of water & 2oz of juice.

Right now I would try baby prunes food. Give it to him with all his meals and see how that goes. Stay away from Rice Cereal cause that can bind and use Oatmeal cereal, I prefer it over Rice Cereal. I did have that problem with my son when he was 2 mo's old but he is fine now. Try the prunes.
