increasing sleep; food or timing?

I read the other post about sleeping and see that some of the response say that their little one is sleeping through the night (5+ hours). I am wondering how much and how often you are feeding your babe. I just increased the amount from 4 to 6 oz, and he doesn't really take the whole 6ozs. I did this to increase sleep, but have not gotten the outcome I was hoping for. I thought i would piggy back the last post and seeif anyone was willing to share some advice onhow to get more sleep for him and ME.
TIA

Ok, so my gut is sleeping, what i consider, through the night! He will have a bottle between 7-8 pm and then sometimes wake up at 12:30 or if i am luck 3 am. Then he will sleep between 7-9 am. So, I guess it was timing! Thanks so much for your input(s). Once again the Circle has been very helpful.

i have a 9 wk old little boy. he eats 5oz every 4 hrs. but at night he seems to sleep a little longer when the lights are all out and total quiet. he will usually sleep 5hrs at a time. we also just got him new passies with a different nipple and he likes them better.

My 7 week old little girl will sleep for 5 hours if I give her a 4 oz bottle of expressed milk before bed which results in her only waking up once in the night. However the problem is when I do that my boobs just about pop when I'm sleeping! loL!!! TMI!! So I have just been BFing her before bed and she will wake up 2 times in the night.

I am breastfeeding, but my baby sleeps from 9.30 til 5 or 6. It depends on the baby though. If your baby is not draining the bottle then he is getting enough. I bottlefed my son and used to give a top up feed before I went to bed. It would be a few ounces a couple of hours after their last feed, this helps them to go longer. But never force feed, only let the baby take what they want.

Alot of it depends on the child. I know with my 8 week old, I feed her only 4 oz. at a time and before she goes to bed, she usually eats another 2-4 oz about 2 hours apart. I find that she gets tired anywhere from 8-10 pm. and then she ends up sleeping usually 5-6 hours when she firsts goes down and then about 3-4 after her night feeding. I have found with the second child that it's easier to notice sleeping habits and adjust it to where she is not sleeping for awhile before she goes to bed but not overstimulating her. Another thing that helps is when it is getting time for bed, make sure you don't have a lot of lights on in the house and it's not noisy like the daytime would be. Also, when he wakes up to feed to not talk to him and try to keep the light off if possible. I know boys can be harder to get to sleep through the night. It's only been the last 3 weeks that she has gone longer at night in between feedings. Good luck....I don't know if any of this helps or not. Also, I saw that your son is only a week younger than my daughter...congrats!

my babe is sleeping throu from 8 til 5 she done it on her own as for feeding i have had to increase milk to 7 oz which she finishes off i make sure her last feed is a warm bottle after a warm bath she just fell into her own routine it just takes time and patience which i know is not as easy as it sounds
