I've been losing my hair now over 2 months. The first month I didn't think much of it since my Dr said it's normal to just continue taking my prenatal vitamins but by the end of that first month I started noticing a small bald spot the are close to the temple n the other side very thin. So foxes dragoon I did some more research n found a group of women who are going through the same thing and are experimenting w home remedies. Beginning of my 2nd month I started using Castor Oil and within that 1st week I noticed a significant reduction on the amount of hair falling out....this is how it worked for me a lot of those females actually stated they have shown regrowth I hope my hair WILL grow back in those spots but for now I am happy slowing the process down until this postpartum dilemma fades away. Sometimes I think when your pregnant your hormones go haywire and give you thick hair and nice nails and then 3-4 or anywhere to 6 months later once your stop breastfeeding or your menstrual cycle returns those hormones disappear and go back to normal and your hair will thin out again and your nails go brittle. The glowing skin and beautiful hair and nails only last while your pregnant.. hehe. It happened to me, my nails were all gorgeous and long while I was pregnant, very unlike my nails to be like that and now 5 months later they have gone back to being brittle and short!! I would say that if it gets to the point of actually having bald spots on your scalp then it is something else though so don't take my advice if it is worse than just your hair thinning out. If it is thinning at your scalp then it may be something like alapecia, which my mum suffered from so I can help with that also.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your question!!!! I have been losing my hair like there is no tomorrow and it was really starting to get to me. My hair has never been so thin and it looks terrible and is showing no signs of slowing down. My little son was born 23 March but he was 3 months prem so we both went through hectic physical stress. I feel like crying every time I wash/brush my hair or wake up and have to pick all the hair off my pillow and out of my bed! My hair is all over my car/clothes/baby/washing/floors and I even find it in the dog bowls!!!!! So crazy!!!!! I am going to have to change my hair style as my current cut is for thick hair (so you can imagine how moth-eaten I look right now!!!). Even though I would never wish this on anyone, I am so relieved to hear that I'm not alone and I won't go bald (touch wood)!!!!!! You have made my day!!!!!!! :)

yes i had my so on march 26th and for about a month now its been falling out like crazy at first i was worried but then i remembered going though the same thing a month before i had my first son it will stop it normal but must women go though it in the first six week after having the baby but we are all different right

i had my dd2 march 30th and im having the same problem didnt know if it was my hormons settling down or due to me having the iplanon rod. It could also be if ur tying ur hair up and brushing it when it is still wet this isnt good 4 ur hair as it causes it to snap...hope this helps :)

My hair falls out due to Alopecia, but I recently thought I was having a shed and went to my dermatologist for injections. She said that this particular shed was due to delivering my baby. (3-4-2010). It is the body resetting is the way she explained it ti me. It can start right after birth, or wait 6 months and then start. So, if you had a March baby, it should be about over. However, if it doesn't quit before too long, see your dr. , just in case. Hope this helps! ♥

It's from your hormones when you were pregnant, preventing normal hair shedding during your pregnancy, your body is now playing 'catch-up'. I've gone thru it 3 times and each time I'm surprised I'm not bald by now, lol! Just wait until the little wispies start growing in and you'll have bangs again (if you don't already!)

omg the same thing is happening with me! every since i have had my son, my hair is falling out like there is no tomorrow! i will wash my hair and my hair comes out in big clumps too. even when i brush my hair!

My daughter was also born in March and my hair is also falling out in clumps. I was told that it should die down at about 6 months or so. I thought I was going bald but it is all of that pregnancy hair that we grew. The hormones are balancing out and getting back to normal.

Absolutely, it's so horrible...I almost dread washing my hair because when I do I end up with handfuls of hair coming out. Totally normal though, apparently it's due to hormones that you had during pregnancy leaving your body. The hormones caused your scalp to hold on to the hair you would normally use, and now that's all of it coming out...not pleasant but still x

This is happing to me too i had my son March 9. My MIL said its very common (she is a hairdresser) and to put hydrocortizone on your scalp for two hrs and wash it out everyday.

The Front of my Hair starting coming out about 2 months ago. When your pregnant you shed less hair and your hair gets fuller, after the baby is born your body goes back to its regular cycle so it sheds the excess hair and pounds etc....It will stop, Just condition, condition condition your hair as much as possible

Isnt it GROSS! My hair is everywhere! Including in her diaper! I have to sweep or pass the swiffer every single day. It does go away, just hormonal.
PS- going shorter won't stop it from falling out, just the fallen out pieces will be shorter :)

I had my son March 28th and my hair is also falling out far more than it ever used to. Went to my doctors last week and he assures me its perfectly normal and that I will not go bald. He also said not to bother with fancy shampoos etc, they dont work, just to let nature take its course basically.

My hair has been falling out like crazy for about a month and a half, and I can't get it to stop. From what I've heard it's not normal, but I've been taking vitamin E and being real gentle with my hair..nothing seems to work, so I was told to just wait it out. My hair is thinning and worries me lol.

My hair only fell out a little before i got pregnant.
Through my entire pregnancy had had no hairloss at all, after i had my littleman still no hairloss.
I had the Mirena put in right after my 6week pp visit... then handfulls of my hair are constantly falling out...

I am so glad you posted this. I am having the same issue too, I literally thought I was going bald lol!!! I had my son in April and it seems all of a sudden my hair just started to fall out in huge clumps too. I really don't think it is something to worry about, it did happen when I had my first child as well. It does go eventually stop falling out. :)

Yep it is completely normal! I am going through it now as well and it happened with my first son 6 yrs ago as well. It does eventually stop and no matter how much you lose, you will not go bald. I remember being afraid of that possibility six yrs ago. No worries! Everything will be okay.

I had my son on the 4th August and yes I have the same thing happening, and I also have a whole lot of new growth coming through which is about 1-2 cm long. This also happened with my daughter, and I went through a horrible phase with the new hair growth where it just kind of spiked up sticking above the rest of my hair! I am not looking forward the part again.

Mine's been doing that for about 2 months so far and isn't showing any signs of stopping yet, it's getting everywhere and it is worrying but I'm told it's normal and it'll slow down soon.

I completely understand what you are dealing with!:) At about 3 1/2 months it started falling out just like you said. A few weeks ago I called my OB and she told me that it was perfectly normal due to hormonal changes and that it should definitely taper off between 5 and 6 months. I did not experience the major hair loss with my first daughter, so it was a bit of shock to me as well:) In the mean time I am running the vacuum every other day and listening to my family complain about the hair on their feet:)

I had my son march 12th and I am going through the same thing. I asked others moms and like they say it's very normal. Don't worry about it, it will stop...

Yup I've been losing hair since my Daughter was 2 months old she's 5 months now..feels like I'm getting bald..lol..it bugs me cause when we wake up in the morning it's all over my baby n around her neck..but it will pass hopefully soon.

I read up on this because I was losing a lot of hair too. Women on average lose 100 hairs a day and when you are pregnant you do not lose all that hair. This is why it looks so full and shiny etc. Well after you have the baby some women (not all) will lose this hair and it can last up to a year after the baby is born. It is a lot if you think about it 100 hairs per day for nine months of not losing it. That adds up to a lot of hair, but your not losing anything more than normal it has just accumulated over time and now it comes out it gobs instead of the normal 100 per day. =)

I went through it, and then some! I was balding on the top right and left side of my head, my hair was very dark so you could see how thin it was getting, I also had bald spots behind my ears, and my son was grabbing it out by the fist fulls. I noticed that the hair was coming off at the root, it was disturbing. I had Mirena placed after my 6 week check up - and yes some hair loss is normal, even a LOT of hair loss is normal... but balding is not. If you are also using Mirena, just know that is a side effect, and it wasn't worth it to me. I would cry over how awful I looked. After removing Mirena, within a week my hair loss stopped, I had to cut and dye it. The LIGHTER your hair is, the less thin it looks (only if you have light skin), If you have dark skin, dark hair will help. I am VERY blonde, and my hair is growing back in those spots and it looks AWKWARD!

it's totally normal... the amount that falls out varies, depending on whether you are BF or not, as well as if you're still taking pre-natal vitamins, and your diet. Most of the time it dies down between 5 and 6 months. Cutting your hair short doesn't help, although it may seem like it does b/c its shorter and less noticeable... mine is short and just as much is falling out as with my first and it was super long then.

My hair has been falling out for the past few weeks. I asked my mother about it and she told me it was normal. I found it odd because my hair wasn't falling out at all while I was pregnant but more than what I was used to before my pregnancy. It's dying down but I do hope it stops soon. My daughter was born on March 21st.

mine did that also. its form all the hormones u had when u were pregnant. it was extra hair that u also made. I.E. why u have full luscious hair when ur preg. its no big worry but if it doesn't stop within a couple weeks call ur ob and he/she will have to so a thyroid test to make sure its okay.

I had the same problem with both kids. Part of mine with my first though was that my thyroid was out of wack and I had to go on medication to level that out. It did slow down but I still lost a lot of hair. I am now going through it again with this child. He was born in March. The "cutting of the hair" did help with the first one to a point. Either that or it just didn't stick to the baby as well! ;) It would be a miracle if we didn't find a hundred hairs on the baby in a day!

I am having the same problem and my son is 4 months old. It has to do with all the hormones- yadda yadda yadda- we all know why our hair is falling out and that its normal- but how can we stop it? Well, you can't but there are somethings that you can do to make it manigable. (if possible) My mother in law is a hispanic hair dresser- and she suggested crushing up those prenatal vitamins and putting them in your shampoo. The B vitamins that are in those prenatals will help restore your hair, and give it that expecting shine that you had before you popped your little one out! Hot oil treatments seem to help too. I have done both and my hair loss has died down alot! Good Luck!
