Is our little girl that far behind?

The dr. told us our little girl (born March 12) would be a little behind in milestones of other kids her age because she had a rough start. I am just wondering what your little one is doing at this age.
Abijah rolls over front to back and back to front a lot and is now doing really well at holdering herself up while on her belly, but can't do it for a long time. We try giving her little toys but she still holds her hands in fists and when she does hold something its not for long at all. She stand up pretty well if we hold her. She doesn't reach for things yet. She is still really little, last Friday she weighed 11lbs 10oz and shes probably like 25-26inches long.

I'm not worried about her at all just wondering if she really is that far behind or not. Would love to hear what stage your little one is at.

my baby just pulled himself up yesterday for the first time.He has been rolling from front to back and from back to front since 4 months. He has 2 teeth, trys to take the spoon away from me when I feed him, and sits unsupported, but he will not crawl. His dr. says that since he is in a walker often, he sees that as him main source of transportation, and has no desire to crawl. I was worried, because all of the other babies born around that time seem to be crawling, but now that he pulls up, it doesn't really worry me that much anymore.

My little one is sitting up on her own, crawling, and can push herself in the sitting positsion from crawling, she is just now starting to pull herslelf up on the coffee table. I know a lot of different babies and they are all doing different things. Every baby learns at their own pace so there really isn't anything to worry about. Your little one is doing great! :)

I have twins born on March 16th...they can stand supported, sit supported, grabs everything within reach, rolls front to back and back to front, and only lifting off the floor with their hands...I don't think she's that far behind...and as said before as long as she's healthy and happy I wouldn't worry! :)

Crosby is going to be 6 months old at the end of September. He has been holding his head up since 2 days old. He is rolling over both directions (although many times when he rolls onto his belly, he refuses to roll back) and stands really well when held up. He can grab for items and will hold on to them for awhile. He's also entered the "drop and look" game, especially when we say "uh-oh!"

I don't think she's far behind at all. People told me my oldest was far behind because he wasn't walking on his own yet at his first birthday, but within a week he was. Every child develops at their own pace... it would be a different story if she was months behind other children, but she's not.

She's doing just fine!

Oh and he has two teeth as well

I dont think the bad start has anything to do with anything really, I dont know why the dr said that, my LO had a bad start as well and was in SCBU for a week and practiaclly screamed for 4 months cos of major colic and reflux etc, and he is doing smashing now

LOL my mam jokes he was born 3 months old though lol cos he has been able to hold his head and look around the room since birth

My LO is 24 weeks, and he is nearly sitting up, well he can sit up for 5 mins on his own, he has been grabbing toys and playing with them for months now, since about 3 months, he tries to eat everthing, he loves being on his tummy but cant crwal, he tries to lol but cant, he can hold his own bottle and feed himself when its not full (has 9oz bottles)
He can roll over, he is 19lb 9oz but to be honest I think that is going against him in some respects, like I can imagine crawling when you are that heavy will be hard, he is really long though, he is 74 cms (I dont want you all thinking he is a fatty lol)

Every baby is different though

My son had a rough start too. He spent a month in the NICU. Elijah born March 22 is the opposite of your lo. He rarely rolls over. We are actually in PT. He holds himself up really well when he is on his belly. He holds toys and gets them in his mouth. Just recently has he actually taken a real interest in toys. He would grab something if we put it in front of him, but now if its on the floor hell try and grab it. He also is prop sitting.

Personally I find it quite insensative that the doctor would say that because not matter what that is going to worry you but as has already been said all babies develop at their own pace.
My little boy is 6 months, he cant sit up on his own yet but we are striving towards that where my friends little boy who is a week older has been sitting up on his own for the last 2 weeks, my LO can hold onto toys of all different shapes and sizes for long periods of time, he has been rolling from his back to his front for about 2 months but has only just learnt how to roll back onto his back, he will stand up when holding onto your hands but my friends little girl who is 2 weeks older can pull herself up on the sofa. All children are different and from what you have said she can do she doesnt seem to be behind at all.

She doesn't sound far behind at all! She's small though, but that doesn't mean much. My baby girl was also born on March 12th and she's 16.8lbs and 27.5" long so she's a big girl. She's a supported sitter and can sit on her own for only a short while. She only recently started reaching for things and most of the time has her little baby hands in fists. She holds on to toys for a while but has just started throwing them. She can only roll from back to belly and refuses to roll the other way. So I wouldn't be worried AT ALL! You sound like you're engaging her and encouraging her to do and try new things and that's all you can do :}

It sounds like my baby is a little behind! Shes 20 lbs/26in so my doc said it may take her longer to hit milestones. She does not roll over on her own, can sit up/stand with assistance and does ok with tummy time. She loves playing with toys and likes the bouncer and exersaucer.

Every baby is different. My son born March 25th 2 weeks early holds himself up when on his belly for long periods of time. He holds and plays with his toys and is constantly smiling and laughing at his big sister. He tries to scoot himself along the floor to keep up with her. Hes doing things alot faster than she did.

My son, Dean, born on March 21...7 wks early...is the same way. I am not the least bit concerned about it. I know he will do all the same things he should do if he had been born closer to his due date, but it will just take longer. My doctor also told me that Dean will always be about 2mths behind on his "accomplishments" because of being born early. All children develop at their own pace. I would not be concerned at all. She will be doing everything she should in a matter of time!

I'm worried Emma's behind as well, too. She was born March 13... had to stay in the NICU for a week, and she started rolling over pretty early (5 weeks - stomach to back), now she rolls over back to stomach but will never roll from stomach to back anymore, showing no signs of sitting up on her own or balancing enough to try yet, not trying to crawl, but she will reach for toys and play with them for a little bit. Won't hold her own bottle or anything yet, though.

My son is rolling back and forth. He holds his head well and is in a bouncer and walker. He HATES tummy time, but holds himself up pretty well. He stands well when he is holding on to my index fingers. He is grabbing at objects and they go straight to the mouth! He is 17 lbs and is 27 inches. But like many moms are saying on here, every baby is different! I have a girlfriend who has a son that is two months younger than mine who already had 4 teeth and my little man has none! LOL. My doc said since he is big, he may take longer to do things. He does grab item and he can hold onto stuff. Your little girl is perfect and she will develop in her own time.

I have twin boys born on March 28th. They are not doing much that is different from your daughter. Owen is a bit more ambitious with his milestones than Evan. Owen rolls over from back to front and then front to back where as Evan only goes from his back to front. They both hold toys, and reach for toys. They also both stand if held, and sit supported, but even with that Owen is more willing to sit less supported than Evan. I don't see any reason for concern. Each baby is an individual, and will advance at their own pace. Your daughter is doing just fine. She will do things when she is ready for them. We as a society are all too quick to "label" our children. Just let them be who they are.

My daughter just turned 5 months and she is handful. She rolls over both ways even though she hates laying on her stomach. She does it anyways to irritate me .lol. She tries to hold her own bottle sometimes and reaches for things and loves to play with toys.she sits unsupported for about a minute or two and that's it. I don't think your daughter is behind at all. I think everyone does things at different speeds. She seems to be doing all the things that she should be.

He sits up now and plays with his toys, he reaches for us now, He will reach for his bottle and put it in his mouth, he reaches for things during tummy time, but he doesnt roll over, well he does but by accident! He squiles and laughs...dont worry she will catch up at her own pace!

People always say she is "advanced" (whatever that means), She does all those things about as well as you said, and a few others too. She has held her own bottle since about 3 mos., but does reach for, grab and hold tight to objects.,As far as gross motor skills, your daughter seems to be doing well, just work on the fine motor skills now. Also, try not to compare her to other babies, they all have their strengths and their weaknesses, just like adults!

Remy (born March 19th) by the sounds of it is a little behind your daughter, he will roll over if he wants to get something but refuses to roll back again, he's just not interested in moving he just wants to sit and talk to people all day but I'm not worried he will move when he's ready I think he's going to be a talker first rather than a walker, he prefers just watching everyone in their daily lives, especially his brother and taking it all in. I wouldn't say she's behind at all x

my little boy was 3 months early (born March 25) and is also behind babies his age, Right now he is doing the same things that my 2 1/2 month old neice is doing. Dr's said that this is normal for babies to actually achieve milestones with their due date not their birthdate (if they are preemies). He is doing all the things your daughter is doing, so if you look at it that way they are right on track with another baby that is the same age. Right now is he 10 pounds and 22 inches. When he was born he was 2lbs, 10oz and 15 inches.

Sound like she is just perfect. The natural progression is crawling before sitting, as baby idealy should not get to positions they cannot get into by themselves. The reason why these days babies sit before crawling is all us mums sit our babies up and as we are helping they learn this skill without being able to get into it by themsleves.

I wouldn't be worried, I think she sounds just fine, and great work with all the rolling!

My daughter was born March 2nd. I think she had a rough start also and for a while the nurse told me she was behind as well but I always told myself not to worry because every baby is different. I say let your baby grow the speed that she wants. For example, If you want your baby to start sitting up which is where my daughter is at since a week ago, than let your baby be on the floor a lot more.

I think all babies function at their own rate. My Isabel was born March 9th of this year. She amazes me everyday. At 3 weeks of age Isabel was already holding up her head and trying to scoot on her belly already. She does of course roll over from tummy to back and back to tummy. Now at 5 months she trying to walk!. Nothing yet, but she stands while holding on, shes extra nosey...lol, she grabs everything already. We call her strong baby because she has such a strong grip! She plays with toys and knows how to press the buttons to make them sing, she has clear recognition of herself in the mirror and pictures of herself. Her doctor says her motor skills are amazing already. She still drinks formula of course and she holds her owns bottle, but she also drinks out of a sippy cup as well. She has been eating solid foods (rice cereal, oatmeal, baby food like the veggies) since she was 3 months. Started with a little rice cereal and progressed from there. The carrots and sweet potatoes are her favorite! Lets just hope she loves them as she gets older...lol Oh and her favorite is playing the peek a boo game by fisher price on my computer. The baby hits a button and a cute little animal pops up and says peek a boo. She will sit there all day and press the buttons and crack up laughing. Well those are just a few things my little Isabel is doing.

Don't worry at all. All babies are different & will develop on their own schedules. My doctor said the same to me about my daughter being 'behind' as she was born a month early (was due April 19th & she was born March 24th) & she too doesn't really like to hold herself up during tummy time...she just gets angry & frustrated even though she rolls everywhere. Started rolling back to front in mid-July & started rolling back to front/front to back last week. She reaches for toys sometimes & stands really well when we support her. She loves to sit up so we will use the bumbo or prop her up with the boppy or in her playtube & she is happy as a clam. When we took her for her 4 month immunizations August 3rd, she only weighed 11lbs 4oz.

Try getting a copy of "What to Expect the First Year" (The follow up book to "What to Expect when your Expecting") It lists milestones at every month in several categories. What they should be doing - What they are probably able to do. - What they might be able to do. And What a small few can even do... It is helpful to know so that you can evaluate if your baby is meeting the minimum milestones and to know what's coming up...
Perspnally I don't think your daughter is far behind if at all... I think most kids are starting to reach for things at this age, but I am not sure (my book is packed up due to some remodeling :-)

I wouldnt be too concerned - my firstborn (feb 09) couldnt roll til she was 7 months, HATED tummy time and crawled and walked later than most of our mothers groups children. My 5 month old son (march10) has been rolling both ways for quite some time now and commando crawls about. He loves his tummy time - I still cant believe how incredibly different the two are and how they have achieved certain milstones at such different times.
my daughter was 2 weeks overdue and still quite small (6lb) and my son was 3 days early and 8lb 12oz - looking at that you could begin to think that size does play a part but I still believe that they do things when they are ready and by trying to time their milstones in those first 12 months really is hit andmiss as all babies develop at different rates. :o)

He holds onto toys for a small amount of time, enough to shake for a min and the he lets them go. He wil reach for toys and put them into his mouth of course! He cant really hold himself up on his belly, i think its because i didnt MAKE him do it once he showed that he disliked it. Now james is 12lbs 6 oz....not too far from Abijah, and hes 23in long. I dont think ur baby is behind at all, as evryone says they all develop differently, milestones are just that, some babies reach them earlier than others but I dont think you can really say it is normal for a baby to crawl at 7 months or 8 months, or to sit by themselves at 4 months for example, it is just possible! My little boy will be 6 months on the 4 sept and he only rolls a little from side to side and has 3 times rolled completely over but hasnt really done it since. (He still hates his tummy time so doesnt really spend long enough on the floor to learn to roll) He holds onto toys really well and puts them in his mouth, he also has one tooth through already, he supports his weight on his legs when i hold him in a standing position, he babbles and is happy and even though some bubs are rolling and sitting up, I am not worried, just enjoy your lil one while she is not wrecking your house haha, they will do all these things eventually. My daughter is a lot further behind than my son was at this age. My son at 5 mos could hold his own bottle and sitting up on his own. My daughter is not doing any of these yet. She is rolling from side to side, but won't roll a full 360 yet. She is reaching for toys but it takes her a few tries sometimes to land her hand where she wants it. She is a snuggler where my son just wanted to be loose.
