What was the Reason behind naming your child(ren) …..besides because you wanted to…that is an obvious :p and does it have a meaning??

-was it after a family member,
-a movie star
-out of the good ole baby book name
-did you make it up???? Put a twist to it

I believe names hold POWER...and it is one of THEE most important words my sons will hear...

My son Zjimon was named after an African actor...becasue i liked The uniqueness of it, and it sounds very masculine to me…and my son is just that unique and masculine…in every sense…his name means Powerful Blood and it is originally spelled Djimon
My other sons name came to me while I was in bed and out of the blue the name popped in my head..Micah…I put a twist on it and spell it Mikah it means “One who resembles God”
I did not know that until after I chose that name and its fine with me :-)

I named my daughter Paislee Eilynn. I picked Paislee becuase me and my fiancee both instantly loved it I changed the -ey to a double e becuase I thought it looked pretty! I picked Eilynn becuase Lynn is my moms middle name and Eileen is my MIL's middle name. I hated Eileen and though Lynn was boring so I combiened the two and her name sounds so beautiful just like her.

My daughter's name is Hattie Mae. Mae was my grandmother's middle name, she got sick and passed suddenly before I became pregnant and was like a second mother to me. I love her and miss her more than anything. Hattie would have been her first great granddaughter and I wanted to honor her :)
The first name, Hattie, was chosen by my boyfriend. He texted me from work one night and said "i want our beautiful baby girl's name to be Hattie" he saw it in a baby book and it just really stood out to him and stuck with him. I knew a girl named Hattie growing up and had always loved the name. It also suits us as parents, if that makes any sense. A new girl at work asked me the other night what my daughters name is and when I told her Hattie she replied "you totally seem like someone who would have a kid named Hattie. It's really pretty, but really different too."
It means "ruler of the home"... which hopefully she is not until she moves out .. lol

My son is Carl. My husband and I were destined to have a Carl. There are 4 important Carls in our families. My great grandfather and brother are named Carl. My husband's father and grandfather are Carls. So when we found out he was going to be a boy, we wanted to name him Carl to honor the four important Carls in our families.

I named my daughter Jenesis because she is the first everything. First child, my mother's first grandchild, and my MIL first granddaughter. I used a J instead of a G for her Daddy, Jean.

Our oldest's name is Hayden Scott... middle name after my FIL and first name we picked out of the baby name book. A twist on Aidan but not as popular. Our newbie is Crosby Mark... middle name after my husband's deceased uncle and first name after the Crosby on NBC's parenthood.

I never wanted to know the gender of my baby. i was told i would have a boy bc no1 on my husbands side had any girls. it just wasnt possible. plus doctors told me for years i could never have a child. so i told God that he knew my heart and how i wanted a little girl. that it was a miracle i was even pregnant and if he would bless me with a little girl i would give her a name that would glorify him. after 22hrs of labor and an emergancy c-section i awoke to find a healthy 9lb 2oz baby girl. and i kept my promise. i named her Gabrielle (elle said as ella) after the hebrew meaning God's able bodied one and it also means my gift. so thats why i chose her name. and for those of you who still are sceptic, i just wana let you know i had the first girl in 4 generations!

i named my son Ryker
it took us along time to decide on a name that we both liked. i had a huge list of names that neither of us agreed on, and i happened to find this on a top 1000 baby name list. i liked it and he liked it so thats what we ended up going with. i didn't want my child having the same name as everyone else. my names elizabeth so it was kind of annoying having such a comon name. i wanted my baby's name to be unique but nothing that would be way out there
later we found out that Ryker meant Richer in dutch and my boyfriends dutch so that worked out nicely and we also found out it was a character's name on star trek neither of us watched the show so we didn't know until later.
i've only met one person who's child has the name and it's a middle name :)

we named our 1st born kyah clay, we love the song kaya by bob marley and adapted it so people would pronounce it properly, that name was chosen much before she was born or even thought of. clay came from her uncle clayton my 17year old bro who had died 5months before i got pregnant. our next bub is jonah dali. i actually wanted noah but my husband and daughter loved jonah and he was born at home in water so a water named suited plus i love that its biblical. dali is from my favourite artist salvador dali. its also cool as the i in dali is actually spelt with a slanted dot which i love that their names are unique :)

My daughter is named Sofia which means wisdom (of God) and second name Grace. I chose those names for the meanings and the beautiful sound of them.

we named our son Caleb Gordon. We went with Gordon since both mine and my husband's dad's middle names are Gordon, and we chose Caleb since we wanted something that wasn't over used, but not something really obscure either, and we also wanted a name that couldn't really be turned into a mean nickname later on (his last name is already fawcett, and his dad grew up being called rusty and leaky, so that will be bad enough).

My daughter's name is Arianna Margarita. Arianna derives from Ariadna, a character from Greek mythology that helps Teseo beat the minotaur and find his way out of the Labyrinth. She is later left by Teseo but ends up hooking up w/ Dionisis, god of wine and pleasure and becoming a Demigod. We liked the idea of having a story behind her name. Margarita was after a really good friend of mine, who is so very loyal that I am happy for my daughter to have her middle name.

our first Nevaeh is Heaven backwards. My husband heard the name from the lead singer of P.O.D. And our second is Zoey. We wanted a name either at the beginning of the alphabet or the end. Now when/if baby #3 comes they will have a name at the beginning.
I already call the by the wrong name I didnt want them to sound the same.
Zoey's middle name is Raine after Raine Maida the lead singer of Our Lady Peace. When my hubby and I met one of our first convos was about how we both liked OLP!

My daughters name is Eliana Isabella Mercy ( Hebrew which means My God answers me) Isabella ( Consecrated to God) Mercy (for the mercy the Lord show us instead of judgment for our sins. It's soft and it flows great together, and really describes what a true gift from God she is.

I named my son Le'Mier Rashaud Christopher because like you I believe names hold power his first name mean two things cause i kinda put a twist on it
Lem is derived from Lemuel meaning belonging to God and Emir means Prince. Rashaud means Good Judgment. Christopher means bearing Christ inside. I Asked God to help me name my son and these are the name he gave me so I gave them all to my son.

Well I like this thread! I am a strong believer that a name reflects who you are/will be. For my first born, i really wanted a "v" name for a girl. We didn't know what we were having..it was a girl and my husband insisted on an "S" name. She had no name for a month b/c we couldn't agree. I began calling her Shanta (means Peace in Hindi) Vesha (a combo of my name and husband's) she was sucha sweet baby! Sharda Anjali was our 2nd born. Sharda means Mother Durga in Hindi (mother of the earth) and Anjali means "to offer praise with open hands". Well, I had to keep the "S" thing going, so my baby is Syrita Venisha pronounced Sa-ree-ta. Syrita means "flowing water" and Venisha my oldest named her before we knew she was a girl :)

Lets see, my first child Ashlie Alexis, I don't think I had alot of reason other than i just liked the way it sounded, it sounds kind of whimsical fun and that is her to a TEE! My second Gwendolyn Reese, Was i liked Gwen Stefani and Reese Witherspoon, I put the 2 together and just thought it sounded beautiful and that is her BEAUTIFUL. My son Treyen Beryx, my oldest and I picked out. She was doing a history project on Romania and the President of Romania's name is :"Traian" and we liked how it sounded, We tweeked it a bit so it wouldnt look like :train, and Beryx was on a list of romanian names website and we thought it just sounded like a very kick butt strong kind of name. And he was always kicking the crap out of me and he is very strong physically and mentally! :

Mostly the names I chose for my children reflect where I was in life when I had them. My daughter was Chloe Sasha Rose..I was young and wanted to make everyone happy, Chloe becuase I liked it, but my husband liked Sasha, and Rose after my Grandmother Rosemary because she hated the name Chloe..everyone was happy. My son Skyler Dylan because I was reading a book about a journalist named Skyler, who seemed very masculine to me and Dylan because I was reading a lot of Dylan Thomas at the time. My son Ashton Zane, because my husband was going through a superhero stage and I did not want my son to be named Bruce Wayne or Peter Parker...so I had him watch Army of Darkness with Bruce Campbell who's name is Ash in there..to try to convince him that he was a superhero of sorts...and Zane sounded very unique to me. Lastly, Lyla Jay...after my uncle who helped raised me and died, his name was Leonard Jay and I loved him like a father..and it suits her to perfection.

My daughter's name was chosen more for our Irish ancestry than after any one individual. Fiona was chosen by my husband as he wanted a unique name that had a strong Irish tie. Kaydence was chosen as it means rhythmic for my husband's love of music.

So, our daughter, Fiona Kaydence, has a unique name that includes a bit of each of us.

My daughter's name is Audrey Elizabeth. I think it sounds elegant and classy. I chose Audrey because my name is Autumn, and my nickname is Audie. I guess it's kinda like I named her after myself. I chose Elizabeth for her middle name because my best friend's first name is Elizabeth. I also think they sound good together. I went through a ton of names before I decided that I would go with Elizabeth. None of the others sounded right to me.

My daughter is Elizabeth Diane. Years before we were even married, my husband and I realized we had the exact same names chosen out for boys and girls, with Elizabeth at the top of our list. We like traditional names and thought it fit well with our British last name. The middle name Diane was chosen after my mother in law who passed away.

My son's name is Ethan Patrick.. The Patrick is a family name on my husband's side, and Ethan just came to us out of the blue. My husband originally wanted to name him Vincent, but I was deadset against it, and one day he said, "How about Ethan?" I loved it, so it was Ethan from then on.

When I was pregnant I was stuck on having our baby having a name that starts with an "A" if it was a girl, and if I was having a boy it would be named after my husband. So one day my husband and I where in Tampa Florida and the name "Aiyanna" (means eternal flower) popped in my head and my husband like it. I was excited to find out I was having a girl but I put a little twist in it and I added an "I". Her middle name is a Malagasy name which means "desire". Her name fits her perfectly because she a a beautiful baby and she is so loving.

My son's name is William Joseph III. My husbands name is Trevor Darren and his father and grandfather are both William Joseph Senior and Junior. He wanted to name our son after them because that was supposed to be his name (they didn't name him that because when his Dad married his mom she already had a son named William Jeffrey so they didn't want another William) So I let my husband name our first born William even tho I didn't like it lol we call him Trey for the third tho, we have never actually called him William lol

My daughter's name is Ayla Elizabeth. I named her Ayla afte rthe main character in the book "Clan of the Cave Bear" I had this name picked out since I first read the book at age 12. (I had Ayla at 36 yrs old. LOL) I never changed my mind on that name and Elizabeth for her middle name because I am catholic and my conformation name and my Grandmother's alma motter (college) was St. Elizabeth's. Ayla means strong as an oak and I believe Elizabeth means beatiful flower. I have had her name picked out for almost 25 years and I'm so glad I had a girl so that my dream of having an Ayla would come true. (And hubby is saying she is our one and only, so there wouldn't be another chance to have one if we had a boy.)

A girl I went to high school with named her baby Kaiden while we were in school and I always thought it was a nice name but would probably never name my own baby that. While I was pregnant I heard the name Cadence on TV so when me and my ex were deciding on a name I suggested it and like one of the maaaany names I said before he rejected it. Later on he said we could name the baby Cadence if we could have his middle name be Anthony so I agreed. A few months later I told him I liked Cadence more for a girl but suggested Caden so that was the name. It was only a few months ago I realized that I ended up having my own Caden lol. Weird how the world works!

I liked strong traditional boy names. Top of my list were Samuel and William. Our family consist of Scott, Sheila, Savannah and Will. I chose against Sam because I didn't want to be cheesy and have the whole family start with an "s". I also wanted a nice short name because I got sick of writing "Savannah" on baby bottles, little tags, etc. :) Plus, I was hearing a lot of people naming their sons Sam. So we went with William Bennet. (Bennet kinda after my dad, Ben.) We think it sounds like a nice strong name for a boy.

I named my baby Isabella. When I was about 15 I wrote out a list of all names I liked for future babies, and I pulled it out when I was pregnant and Isabella was at the top of the list. I am a Twilight fan, and most people assume I got her name from that.. but I didn't. I don't care if people think that. It's a pretty name and we don't know any other Isabellas. Her middle name is Abbey because my boyfriend is a mad Beatles fan :)
