There is a new line by graco called the smart seat. I just got an email from babies R us an this is what it says. I have been looking for a new carseat for my son who is almost 11 months so i am in the same place. So i thought you might want to check the these out too. The email says: The Smart Seat features SafeSeat™ engineering for crash protection, plus the convenience and added value of accommodating children 5-100 lbs. The Smart Base™ stay-in-car base only needs to be installed once.Graco. So maybe you can check it out. I am going to look at it in the store today i think cause i like what i have seen an read so far an they have more info on them at Babies R US if you wanna check it out. Best of luck with your search!!

I use the National Highway Safety Admin for their rating system. I am going to check the AAP too. I have an Eddie Bauer 3-1 and my son loves it! I am looking for another tho less expensive for Daddy and Grandma's car. ;)

I bought the Evenflo Symphony 65 because it is a 3 in 1 convertable seat rear facing from 5 to 35 pounds and forward facing with 5 point harness for 20 to 65 pounds and then acts as a booster seat for 30 to 100 pounds. it comes in I think 3 different colors and it was SUPER easy to install! and the straps are really easy to adjust and its not too expensive at babies R us its only 199.99. It IS a little big but I drive an SUV so it doesnt matter that much to me. I did alot of research and was originally looking at a Britax, but There were alot of bad reviews and they were a little bit more pricey I found. My advice would be to go to the store and pick one out that way because some of them can be a little bulky depending on what kind of car you drive.

I have always used the Safety first, I believe, the Alpha Omega Elite ones. They are convertible from 5-100 lbs. When my son was about 7 months old we were in a bad wreck and he did not wake up slept right through the whole thing. Of course we bought a new one after that. :) But they have have great crash test ratings and are affordable. The latest one I purchased for my 11 month old was 140 I believe. And now they come in many different patterns unlike 9 years ago with my oldest all they had was black.

a 10 month old wont be able to go in it, but my daughter is about to turn 1 and i think i will be purchasing a Graco Nautilus in the next few months... it's a front-facing carseat, but converts into a booster carseat for a toddler and a backless booster. therefore it will be the last seat i have to buy!

That was for a 2006 model, and it was for the top teether which they recplaced for anyone owning that model. IF you child weighs more than 50lbs and u use the tether it may unlatch the top tether. I personaly never had my oldest in the car seat past 50 lbs hes 5 yrs old and still not even 40 lbs and he uses a booster seat now :/ ..... Thanks for the heads up though!!!!

I have done TONS of research...I hear that Evenflo Triump is the holly grail of affordable carseats. It is a top 5. It is up therw with britex! I have also read 100s of reviews and 95% are all rave reviews...Many from people who had been in accidents! Thats one I will be getting!

I am a huge fan of the Britax also because I have a lot of friends who have them and they are rated great! However, I did not have that kind of money to spend on a new car seat, so I had to go with something a little more in my budget being a single mom. I have a Safety 1st Alpha Omega Elite and I love it!! It is a larger seat, but I drive an SUV, so it wasn't really a problem. My daughter is very comfortable in it also and doesn't cry at all. I agree with Shauna though, just do some research for yourself and pick one that fits your needs. Good luck!

Britax Marothon is the best car seat you can get IMO.
I worked at a childcare and asked around and have seen plenty of seats in use.
THe myride 65 straps tend to get really tangled, the benifit on that issue with the britax is that the straps never tangle and there is velcro on sides to hold the straps back when you put baby into carseat.
Alot of the other brands look fancy but dont have the metal frame underneath like a britax. In a side collision most normal carseats would be destroyed where as in a britax it would hit the metal frame and protect the baby.
Just do your research look around, britax are pretty pricey but for me i put safety first. and most of them are lifetime carseats. the britax allows a child to stay harnessed untill 70 lbs. not just in a booster.
look up the britax and watch some example videos,,,, do the same on all brands. Then make your decision :)
