i was once concerned too about my baby girl not smiling when we went to meet our pd at 2 months old. it was one of the criteria in her developmental checklist that was ticked at the 'no' box. being a preschool educator, i knw that it carries a bearing on her development. first thing came to mind was Autism. i spent many worrying nights reading on Autism in infants. my husband thought i was over reacting, but i need to keep myself well-informed. my baby slept most of the time, didnt maintain eye-contact, and didnt smile. true enough, these were some of the signs pds would look for to rule out Autism.BUT each baby develops differently. and so, i knew i had to do something.

i started to wake her up from her afternoon naps and interact with her. i am an introvert person by nature, but i remembered being an expressive one almost instantly. i describe every single routine we are doing together. from the brand of her diapers to the color of her pyjamas. anything and everything. i forced my husband to read to her every night. with God's Grace, she started to smile, acknowledging my presence, regards my face, cooing and recently laughing out loud.. i pray that it will only get better.. :)

now, i told everyone in my family, if they want to be around my baby, they have to talk and interact with her. shes still napping alot now, so whenever she is awake, i keep her engaged with activities, be careful not to over stimulate your baby though..

above and beyond all that... i knw its difficult not to worry, keep yourself informed on what you can do. its also difficult not to compare, but i keep telling myself, my baby will do things when she is ready BUT i have to facilitate.

i hope ths helps..
