Natural with my first and NT (no time!) with my second! My labor was just over two hours with my second one, so 'i guess from here on out i don't have the option! I'm really glad I chose to go natural, because if I had to do it that way but wanted an epidural I would have been freaking out!

with my son i had an epidural, but that was after 7 hours of labor behind me (had a total of 9 hours of labor) but I had the epidural where I was able to click a button that administered it every 15 min. And I didn't have any problems with it. with my second one, which i'm due in July, I'm planning on going natural for as long as I possibly can but still have an epidural as back up.

I was in labor for 36 hrs ( at the hospital) with my first and after 32 hr I got an epidurall.. I ended up dilating faster and after 3 pushes my son was born.... With the second one I am debating..... I'm not against the epidurall I just maybe want t o have a different experience but I'm still on the fence. Any advise would be appreciated!

I had an epi with my first. I had a hard time ushing because I didnt know what I was doing, and I couldnt feel anything. LOL
Then, with my next baby, she came so quickly I didnt have enought time to even ask for anything! It wasnt that bad. I felt it all, but it was so quick that she just poped right out. It was so easy that I opted to do it again with my 3rd child. OH MY GOD What a nightmare LOL!!! Labor was fast, but see.... my Dr broke my water insead of letting me labor, so I went from 4 cm to like 8 in a matter of minutes, and he weighed 2lbs more. *(8lb 11oz) OH THE PAIN!!!!! HA! And I had a iv drip of a pain med that was aweful. I couldnt focus, my eyes were crossed and I almost felt drunk. Worst feeling ever! I tore front to back, and it was just a really really bad experience!
Im expecting my 4th, ( only 11 months apart from my last child) And Im not sure if I am going to do the natural thing again. LOL I think I just might do an epidural one more and FINAL time! I deserve an easy labor and delivery after that last one! hahaha

I had an epidural and one round of pain meds when I had my daughter almost 9 years ago. I really didnt plan on having anything more then an epidural during labor with my oldest but felt the nursing staff preasured me until I gave in. I am really wanting to explore the option of either epidural only or natural childbirth this time around. Does anyone have any good books to suggest for me? Thanks!

I live in a remote community, where an epidural is not an option due to the fact the 1 anaesthetist may not be available. So, with our daughter I only had the gas and air (although stopped using that early on as it made me ill). From then on, I had nothing and gave birth to our 8lb baby girl, who was back to back with a head circumference of 38cm!! It was painful, however I would do it all over again for Erin. The pain was forgotten as soon as I held her :)We're hoping to have another child in the next year, and have no fear about going through labour again without any pain relief.

I didn't have anything with my daughter, I wanted to but she came too fast. If I ever have another baby I will try and go without drugs but if it's too hard I'm not against an epidural.. depends if I have the option or not!

Its like a 50/50. It may work for you, or you be the unlucky half, and end up with back pain. Isn't there any other form of pain reducers besides an epidural during birth? Giving birth was sooo painful for me, not something i want to go through again, but i'm due in february, and the clocks ticking... what should i do, epidural or natural?? I think you should be 100 % sure an epidural is what you want, before you go ahead and do it. Also, be aware of the risks involved.

no meds at all for either of my births. I'm not planning on using any meds this time around, either. I moved around a lot, used the birthing ball (LOVE IT) and honestly - through the worst of it I watched the clock. I knew about how long they would last so I watched the second hand tic around until the contraction ended. It gave me something else to concentrate on and I was able to relax knowing it would be over in a few ticks of the hand. I also had my hubby and my teddy bear.

Edpidural all the way! I had an epidural with my first and it was great. I was in labor so long they had to give me a second bottle of the epidural medication. I totally plan on getting one for this next one too.

i was super freaked out before giving birth (super freaked out since i found out i was preg to be honest!!) ... think of labour as bad period cramps times 100. try tensing your stomach muscles...and hold for 30 seconds...and then...release for a minute...then tense for another 30 seconds...do it for an hour. that will emplain why ur tired during labour!!!) and the cramps times a hundred explains the pain.........................HOWEVER...there is no other experience quite like giving birth without pain meds!!! the most natural high ever!! except ur tired as hell!!! :-) The unknown pain freaked me out...but my midwife reasoned " Women do this everyday" ..... ull never truly know the "natural instincts" of being a mother til u r one, and its like giving birth...our body just does it. I say try natural..but give yourself limits for when to introduce pain relief

I tried natural, they put me on Stadol ( because I was in a lot of pain) and that gave me nausea, vomiting ( 3 times) and I forget where I was, my husband told me I tried to hit a nurse and I got on top of the bed like the exorcist...my midwife arrived and realize I need an epidural ( I don't remember any of the bad stuff)..they gave the epidural ( at 1 cm), I sleep and later I had my baby in a peaceful environment and no pain ( this was 20 hours labor)....next time epidural Please.

I would say keep your mind open and do research the epidural. For some moms it keeps them from progressing and there is a higher rate of c-section with the epidural. I had both.... no progression and c-section. I will never again have the epidural. I am going to be an all natural girl. However, it really depends on the person. Some do well with the epi and some don't. Research both ways.

I had a homebirth with my daughter, all natural, not even tylenol. I plan on having my second the exact same way. I had my first in a birthing tub and man that warm water is great! My midwife calls it natures epidural.

I had an epidural with my son, but it only worked on one side so I still felt pain on the other, smh. It did ease up some of the pain though, so I will probably do it again this time around. Although with my son I was told I have a high tolerance for pain, but I wholeheartedly disagree, lol.

hey there I went natural with my son (oct25/08) and plan to go natural again this time around. I did get sterile water injections and would totally recommend them.
I did end up using a little gas right before pushing after some urging from the nurses and grandmas but I wish I didnt't because I could of held off that extra 5 mins is all that it turned out to be

i had an epidural with my first following a very long and obstructed labour requiring an instrumental vaginal delivery. being a midwife, i am committed to natural birth, and intend on staying home to deliver. i plan on doing hypnobirthing this time around. i know it sounds odd, but having witnessed women who've used this technique first hand, when it works, it works! as well as water.

Yeah mine was BLISS. It didn't wear off until after I had my son. They had me on a continious drip even thru labor they were awesome. But that was in Louisana and now I'm in Alaska so hopefully they are tha generious up here :)

i got an epidural too with my son! it was soooo amazing...hahaha..it made the birth very smooth and easy. however, it kinda started to wear off at the end, but it was still pretty okay for the most part. i will most definitely be getting an epidural again! i just hope it works the same as the last time.
