I have pictures of my 3 1/2 mo daughter swiping dinner rolls off my plate and eating them. She still bf every two hours even after we started her on solid foods. Up to you! Mix it w/ breast milk.

My 13 week old son was still waking every 2 hrs on the dot so I started him on a little rice cereal in his bottle and the change was instantaneous! As soon as he got his 3-4 oz he went fast to sleep for 5 hrs. I couldn't believe it. I so needed to sleep more than the usual 2 hrs.. but given the way he took to it (very eagerly) and the way he slept so sound after his feeding I felt bad as if I must have been starving the poor kid. Today I went to a WIC app. and she told me that even mixing the formula wrong eiter too strong or too weak is bad for his kidneys. And that the rice cereal shouldn't be introduced till he is 6 months old. Great!! Now what? Honestly.. until I hear more of it being bad for his health I'm going to keep giving it to him at night. :-\

I find all of this funny since my mom started putting cereal in my bottle when I was 3 weeks old.... so I did the same with my kids.... and we all had applesauce by the time we were 2 months old.... and we are all normal healthy adults with no allergies.... go figure.

I would talk to the pediatrician first before doing anything. My niece had an allergic reaction when she tried cereal at 4 months.

I gave my twins rice cereal at 3 months. I just put a tea spoon in their night time bottle and they started sleeping though the night. It was amazing! I of course checked with the doctor first and she said it was totally fine. I increased the amount slowly as they seemed like they needed more and by 4 months they were ready to eat it with a spoon.

my son is 12 weeks old he eats cereal and has just started fruit hes fine my dr. suggested doing this to reduce food allergies youll be fine if you feed your baby cereal . stilll give him his milk when he wants it just incorporate it in . Same with fruits but try 1 fruit for a week before introducing a new one just in case of an allergic reaction

Just a note, I think it's hilarious that the AAP recommends starting babies on avocado and banana, since my husband is allergic to both! I was so afraid with my son (now 2) that he would be allergic, too, so I didn't give him these foods until he was at least 18mo. He's not allergic to them, but now I'm worried with my daughter (4mo.) so I will probably wait until she's much older for these foods as well. It's just funny to me that my husband would be allergic to the 2 foods they recommend most!

I started at the same age because of the same reason and she is now 5 months old and starting fruits. She is doing much better and my doc has okayed everything I am doing.

My little man is 4 months old and we just started him on cereal and fruits.... If they are supported sitters, can sit with help, my doctor said it was fine... I say ask your doctor first...

it is too early to give rice cereal to your 12 week old baby! they are nosy ,but thats all it is. mine is 4 months and I will only breastfeed until 6 months like I did with the other 3. they can have little tastes though :)

We started rice cereal in bottles in the first month due to GERD. But, our doctor advised us to try rice cereal between 3-4 months old. He really caught on to it. He was getting bored & really watched us if we were eating something. I hope this helps you some. Good Luck

I just started my 12 week old baby on rice cereal. She's formula fed because I couldn't produce enough but having the little bit of cereal in with her formula definitely helps her sleep better at night, which I give her before bed and in the morning.

Also keep in mind that it's possible when introducing babies to solid foods to early can cause them to become allergic to certain foods. So be careful with your 12 week old baby, and always consult with your pediatrician first, as there are plenty of moms out there that think this can't and wont happen to their babies.

Because your baby's main source of nutrition is from breast milk and/or formula, it is important that you nurse or bottle feed first and then offer your little one solids at this early stage of introducing solids.

AGE/STAGE: The AAP recommends that an infant not be started on solid foods until after 6 months of age. Many pediatricians still start babies on solids around 4 months of age. This chart accommodates all ages and stages up to 12 months.

CEREALS: Rice and Oatmeal cereals are the least of the allergenic grains and thus most babies are started out with those cereals. You don't HAVE to start with cereal - try avocado instead or banana.

FRUITS: May be served raw after 8 months old – bananas and avocados do NOT need to be cooked ever

VEGGIES: Always serve cooked until after 12 months old or when baby can chew well enough so that no choking hazard is present.

PROTEIN: Always serve cooked with no pink areas – NEVER give a small baby/child raw meat or fish

DAIRY: NEVER replace breast milk or formula until after 12 months of age – serious health risks are possible.
Never give a child under the age of 2yrs old low fat or skim milk products; whole milk is necessary.

I spoke to the dr about this and she said that oatmeal is easier for them to digest and to really give it a try. We tried rice and he cried for 3 hours. Oatmeal went down just fine with no problems, but he was still eating every two hours. I thought it was supposed to help them last longer in between feedings. But not with him.

I am having a similar problem. My baby is formula fed but he is constantly hungry. He eats all of 6 ounces every 2 hours. I have given him cereal once and he liked it. My question is when can we try some jar stage 1 food? I know your supposed to wait till at least 4 months but your supposed to wait that long for cereal too.

My little guy turns 12 weeks old Friday. He's a big fella and I started giving him some rice cereal just this past week. He was taking 6 oz of formula every two hours during the day and just seemed to still be hungry. He loves it, and hasn't had any adverse reactions. My biggest problem is feeding him at that perfect time where he is a little hungry, but not so hungry that he's fussy and only wants to suck on his bottle. We usually feed him the cereal around 5:30-6:00 so he gets one last bottle before bed.

I'm starting my daughter on cereal at 12 weeks ... or earlier. she is also breastfed and eats every hour from 9pm-12am. she's almost 11 weeks now. my friends started giving their 12 week old babies cereal too.
