It usually stops between 4 and 6 months, although it is sometimes longer if you are solely breast feeding, or your diet is poor, causing your hormone levels to drop faster than normal.

Although it seems like you can see your scalp, it seems like this mainly because you have gone so long with having such luscious thick hair.

Firstly im glad is not just me, i was losing her even in bed when i was sleeping, i left the pillow with a BIG AMOUNT everyday but i reduced it with a placenta hair treatment, there are 3 vials and put 1 every week. well it worked like magic. The enterprise that makes it is CURTIS

I've never heard that you shed more after you stop breastfeeding. I am shedding in huge clumps as well and I am currently breastfeeding. From what I remember from my first son, I stopped losing most of it after I stopped BF. I have mini bangs now because of all the hair I've lost. LOL...But like everyone has said, it does stop.

So very happy to see that it's more then just a 'handful' of us that are going through this. I am shedding so much I was going to get my thyroid checked but after reading all your posts I may not. My baby, Emberlyn, is going to be 5 months on monday. Thank you all for the reassurance and I hope it all stops soon for us all :)

on the t.v. show the dr.s they said this was normal as your hormones are readjusting but if it is an excessive amount to check with your doctor because it could indicate a problem with your thyroid.

LOL - I am shedding hair like crazy too... :( It started not long after I stopped breastfeeding (when my son was about 5 or 6 weeks) and is still going and he is now 20 weeks old. I saw an episode of SATC where one of the girls is fighting cancer and is loosing her hair and I freaked out that I was gonna go bald too!!! :) we all need a freak out every once in a while. :)
When I took Toby in to get his 4mth immunisations I asked the doctor and he said it'll stop once all my hormones have balanced out - but that could take 6-12months... because it's actually after they've been balanced for at least 2mths that the body recognised they are back to normal. Pity we can't see inside like it's some kind of pool chlorine tester so we have some idea when it'll all stop!

dont worry i have the exact same problem but i son is just bout 5 months. i spoke to a specialist and they said the main cause of it is stress. i didnt even know that i was stressing or what i was stressing about but i made myself realise that maybe i was stressing so i decided to meditate to calm down when my son went down for the night and so far i've had no hair fall out since then. . . so maybe you should try it. best of luck

I just recently started shedding like crazy too, about a week ago and my little girl will be 4 months this week. I have read that this is normal post-delivery, I had just forgotten about it being a busy new Mom! Apparently we don't shed hair like normal during pregnancy, so we make up for it afterwards. My poor shower drain!

Everyday I have more than 1 chia pet of hair. My hair is long and I have always shed this much hair after 3 months. I see my hairline getting farther and farther back. funny actually. All normal, just one more thing to vacuum. Don't worry it happens to us all, some just more than others! Good luck.

The same thing is happening to me! And my hairdresser also said that I am just losing what I didn't lose during pregnancy. She said it should slow down at about 8 months!

my hairdresser told me it happens fir the first year while your hormones are going back to normal... don't stress! if you are worried why not try a hair growth shampoo and conditioner?

OMG! I experienced this after my first baby right around when she turned four months and I am going thru it again now (my second baby is four months old now). I am loosing hair by the handfuls in the shower and when I brush my hair but I don't see and visible signs of thinning on my scalp. I did not go bald after my first baby... so I think it is safe to say I won't this time either. I think I read somewhere that hair loss can happen due to shifting hormones. But I agree... it's kinda freaky!

My hair is falling out too. Don't worry my doctor said it was normal after pregnancy. It's because of hormone changes and the fact that you don't lose the normal amount of hair when you are pregnant.

I'm doing the same thing and i hate it! I can't remember when it stopped with my other son but don't worry, it does and you're not gonna go bald. That's what i thought too because no one told me that would happen. Just bear with it and it'll eventually stop. Just remember you're not the only one. I brush my hair constantly just so i won't be shedding on my little guy like when im changing his diaper. Oh and you might get a little more when you stop breastfeeding but im not sure on that because I didnt start shedding until after i stopped breastfeeding my first son.

This is normal and JUST started happening to me last night in the shower. I lost enough hair to resemble a small woodland creature. It is all part of the changing hormones.

Thank you for comments. The scary part is that I'm still bf so does this mean when I stop my hair will fall out even more?

I have been shedding hair like crazy too! It's very annoying since my son loves grabbing at my hair and he gets big gobs of it in his hands. But I've also heard it's normal postnatal, it seems like it's taking forever to stop though!

My have just started losing a lot of hair too... it's normal for this to happen post pregnancy. I was told that it starts to get bad when you stop breast feeding

My hair is falling out too, although it didnt start until about two weeks ago. My hairdresser told me that while pregnant I didnt lose hair so now my hair has gone into a period of shedding. The thing is it's hard to tell when it will stop. With my first daughter I ended up losing enough around my hairline on the sides that it is still shorter than the rest of my hair. I hope that it stops for you soon!
