My son will be four months soon and we will be introducing cereals soon. I have been looking and there are like a 1,000 different types. Which do you start with? Also, which fruit/veggie do you start with? and when can you start adding them to the cereal?

My doctor had us start my son with 1 TBSP of rice cereal per 4 oz of formula in his bottles at 4 weeks & still. He has tried gerber rice cereal with a spoon as well, not a huge fan. The doctor also suggested as far as food starting with sweet potatoes bc they cause less food allergies. Make sure once you do start something only use it. Wait 5 days or so to introduce something new to make sure there are no allergies. We also rotate between veg & fruit when I add new types. We did Sweet Potato, peaches, peas, apples, carrots, pears, squash... we are still adding too.

i started my son at 2.5 months on oatmeal (studies now are saying if you don't feed them oatmeal, that can cause food allergies which is totally opposite of the last study). He's now eating teething biscuits, wheat cereal, applesauce and juice, and also has licked mac & cheese. His first veggie will probably be mashed potatoes.

I started with rice cereal and then at 6 months started the fruits because it made the cereal taste better. I had no problem with either of my older kids eating the veggies after the fruit. I guess it depends on the kid. I also waited a week to 10 days to introduce the next fruit or veggie to make sure there were no allergies. My 3 month old hasn't started food yet, but I plan to do the same thing with her that I did with my first 2. Hope this helps you and good luck.

You need to start with a single grain cereal usually in the baby section in grocery stores. It's usually a rice cereal. You need to wait a few days inbetween of starting any new foods so if there is an alergy or reaction you are able to pinpoint which food is causing it. Start with veggies before fruit since fruits are sweet if you start with those you're going to have trouble gettimg your little one to eat veggies. You usually start with stage one foods, look at the grocery store to see which ones are stage 1 and then you can always make them at home if you don't want to buy them. I think squash, peas, bananas are all beginner foods. Just remember that formula or breastmilk is still their primary source of nutrition, I only say that because my sil virtually eliminated formula from my nephews diet.
