um, my first two daughters took about a week to two weeks. my youngest daughter who is almost 2 months old now, it took her almost a month! but all of my children had very thick umbilical cords so i think thats why.

It took 3 weeks for my oldest (she's 4 now) umbilical cord to fall off. My second (only 3 weeks old) fell off in three separate parts, one at 1 week and a half old the last two she was 2 and half weeks old. It can take anywhere from 1 week to 4 weeks for it to fall off.

to Erin - it does go back in - well actually the belly kinda grows in around it, that happened with my second son. just leave it alone once the area is healed.

My daughters fell off after 4 days.

This was WAY to soon for it to fall off, and because of that, her belly button got infected. They say it should fall off in 7 - 10 days

In my country we use hydrogen peroxide 6% on the cord so it dries up pretty quickly, so between day 3 and day 5 it falls off. The peroxide is put on the cord from base to tip all around and applied by a cotton swab moistened with some warm water from the bath. I'm on my 5th child and they have no discomfort from the application and the cord dries up nicely and falls off without any ooziness after.

My daughter was born March 15th and it still hadnt fallen off as of today. Our pediatrician told us to come in since it hadnt fallen off on its own. He looked at it and said that it needed help coming off so he treated it with something. We had to do the same thing with our older daughter. He said that it wouldnt heal correctly otherwise. I think its a preference of his because i know of other doctors that will let it go until it finally does it on its own, no matter how long it takes.

it's going to be a month tomorrow and it STILL hasn't come off. It's on the dry side so i know we're doing something right.

My son was born March 8th... the big part of the stump fell off on the 25th and left behind a small soft piece inside his little innie.. that finally came out today! (the 31st).

My son was born on March 1 and it still hasn't fell off. We were told to expect it around 2 weeks and he just turned 4 weeks. We are pretty sure his didn't fall off earlier because his belly button is really deep and even though we clean around it with alcohol at every diaper change it was difficult until this week to get the alcohol down around the base. We've noticed it shrinking and it looks like it may fall off soon. We were told to keep doing what we are doing and as long as it doesn't get pussy/infected looking then it's fine.

I have had 7 kids and every one was different. I think the docs say it will fall off by 3 weeks.

my daughter was 2 wks old and her pediatrician actually cut off the remainder of her cord. it killed me inside, but he has been in practice longer than I have been alive, so I fully trusted him. it has now healed up nicely and she is able to bathe comfortably.

Our son was 9 days, however I think being under phototherapy lights might have contributed to this!

My son's fell off the day he turned 3 weeks. I just had my daughter this month and hers fells off when she was 10 days old. I was very shocked! Each child is different, but it usually doesn't take longer then 3 weeks.

I think its normaly about 2 weeks but my dds was of on day five and my ds's was of on day three so it can happen any time. I think later is better when my sons feel off it was still a tuch ouzy under it but not that bad.
