my son was eating about 4 jars aday heinz.he allso has reflux. yet he was still screaming constantly with pain and not sleeping.i stopped all the solid foods 2 days ago and hes so much better why is this ,he also is a very hungry baby. any advice on the best baby milk hes currently on aptamil for hungry babies.

that seems like alot for that age. 4 months they say is the earliest to start rice cereal. and then after a week or 2 indroce veggies one a week.

I have 3 children. My oldest now is 3.5yrs old and I have identical twin girls that are 5.5 months old. All 3 of my daughters had and has acid-reflux. My oldest had that since 2 month old n then her dr gave her a prescription of 2 medications cause she had it bad. I was breast feeding and the dr recommended i start to pump to give her rice cereal in her bottle to help her keep it down. During the time of breast feeding I lost my milk supply then at that time she was drinking Infamil Premium. Still no change in spitting up. I started out at 2 months with breast milk n giving her 4oz with 2tbsp every bottle n then increased to 4-6tbsp in the next 4-6 months. But by then she was old enough to eat baby food. It gotten better. But when my daughter was 5-7 months she would only eat 3 jars of baby food. Then after that she would eat more jars n also table food.



But now with my twin girls they were dignost with acid-reflux at 2 moths also and were n still are on formula. But then after starting them on Infamil Premium also then they had me try Infamil AR. I started baby food at 4 months and they loved it. Since my girls were 4.5 months they have been drinking 8oz bottles with 3tbsp rice/oatmeal cereal inside every 3 to 4hrs. They eat now 2 jars of number 2 baby food each. In the am when they wake up about 7 or 8 I give them 8oz of milk but 6oz bottle n put 2oz of milk,cereal n fruit in bowl to eat. Then they eat n then play around for an hr or 2 then go n nap for 1-3hrs n then get up n have another bottle of 8oz n cereal, play/relax and then nap for another 1-2hrs n when they wake up I will give them some fruit n veggies or just maybe cereal with veggies and again 8oz but 6oz in bottle n 2oz in bowl with food. Once it comes to their last bottle of the night I will give them an 8oz bottle with cereal and they sleep through the night from between 7-9 that I lay them down till the next morning. Then I start my day over again.



I hope this was helpful n I do not think 5 jars of food is bad just depending on if the dr says your baby is doing great then no worries. I do not think all of us go by what the dr's tell us to do. Good luck to you all :)



I also agree with Katherine B. All babies are different in all. So we can not compare our babies to theirs. My oldest daughter was always on the 95 percentile and now my twins are almost 6 months and they are almost to that same percentile. But I must say "i think my babies are healthy n have nothing wrong with them thank god". As long as you take care of your babies n do what you think is right n not hurting them well good for you.

That sure is a lot of food. my son at 4 1/2 months had 4 bottles a day 6-8oz and ate maybe 1 jar a day and also some cereal.

Just feed your baby when they're hungry. They don't need to be going 3 hours or 4 hours between bottles lol it won't hurt them to have smaller feeds more often.

Sandra, are you making the formula right??? mine is 2oz water to 1 scoop powder.....

you should always up it a bit once they have a growth spurt, at 4 months my little guy was eating 8oz every 4-5 hours and sleeping through the night. But it's all about how comfortable you feel with giving baby more

wow...my baby is 4 months and with in 2 hrs shes crying for food... i make 5 oz water to 2 scoops of power.... im lucky if i can go 3 hrs..... is that too much or should i be making her a biger bottle and go like 4 hrs between feedings....

I have 2 other kids and the boy always had cereal since he was born. My 4month old daughter only has cereal in are bottle and i am thinking about starting her on cereal now in a bowl. Everyone think i should start her on baby food and so does my husband but i think its too soon? So i think i should listen to the moms on here. So i am wanting some advice even though have 2 already?

My son who is almost 5 months is eating about 4 jars of baby food a day but sometimes more. i think that it is completely up to you on how much you feed your baby though. if you think he cannot handle 5 jars then feed him less or if you feel like giving him 4 a day is too little than give him more. i would experiment around try doing 4 jars a day and see how he likes it. hope i could help you out a little

my baby is 6 months and wont eat baby food.And if she does she pukes it back up.She only take 4 oz of a bottle every three hours.I tried to move her to 5 oz and she wont drink it she only drinks 4.Idk what to do.She has acid reflex to so idk if that is her problem or what.

catrina, we were on liquid meds as well for cannans reflux, we saw a specialist and followed what he recommened (for a short time) basically he said to reduce bottles and offer more frequently, offer water as well. We offer 3tsp cereal (oatmeal, barely, mixed grain) in am mixed with water, and a 4.5oz bottle, lunch is a cube of veg (peas, beans or squash) and a 4.5oz bottle, dinner is fruit (peach, pear or plum) with a 4.5oz bottle and a large 8oz bottle at bed

My son wakes up at 2 - 3 in the morning not wanting to nurse but eat! No I don't think its to much considering they poop out as much as the eat. My son is on liquid zantac because he spits up all the time the only time he doesn't spit up the food is when I mix it with rice cereal when I mix it he only eats about half of what he normally does

Hi Caitie Bee :) Have you talked to your family doctor about his food intake? If he is happy then you likely have no worries...but yes, I would say you are right to wonder if he is getting enough liquid/milk in his diet at this stage, as it is so important. They are all so different.

I say feed him what he wants he is a growing boy, and with him spitting up like my lil man at 4 months he needs the nutrition he gets from the food, I even started giving him watered down apple and Pineapple juice, and that has seemed to work with his spitting up. But also my lil guy is teething already and a lot of his spit up comes from the fact that he is drooling like a flood and and constantly sticking his fingers or mine in his mouth. I say as long as your doctor says he growing perfectly you have nothing to worry about... good luck mama

my midwife told me at four months bub should be having more bottles then food as the milk has more beneficial nutrients, she said they shouldnt be food dependant until about nine - ten months ?

my 5 mos old is eating a lot also, but what you could do is make the baby food with some cereal and put the formula and water in the food so hes getting both but doesnt know it. for my 5 mos old his schedule is cereal at 7 am, baba at 10, cereal at 1, baba at 4 and baba at 7 and hes good for the day. And the bonus is he sleeps through the night! I wouldnt worry about how much hes taking in, if hes hungry hes hungry! Also you know whats best for him. I got into trouble at the 4 mos checkup because of baby food, but baby is hungry after 6 oz of bottle. so give him food also and he is satisfied.

My first kid had reflux but he never ate that much and I had trouble getting even milk into him he'd pull away from the bottle and scream so I don't think I started him on food yet at 4 months. My new baby is drinking a lot of formula every 2 hours still so I'm thinking of starting food at 4 months with her to help with her throwing it up then being hungry again in 2 hours. Every kid is different.

we've started a new thing with his reflux...took him off of his meds completely, and gave smaller bottles....and little portions of food before each bottle....works AMAZINGLY well

his bedtime bottle is the only one he has nothing before and it's a larger bottle

he sounds like he has acid reflux. and for a refluxer that sounds normal. BUUUUT I would try to limit his intake of his baby food. the baby food is just to introduce him to a new texture and taste. he takes the baby food so well, because you mix it with rice. add some rice to his formula. if he has a 5oz bottle, add about 3-4 tbsp of rice. my boy has SEVERE reflux. he's on Prilosec, it works better than Zantac. try and ask your doctor about it. and he takes 7oz every 4 hours and we have to add rice to his bottles, 6 tbsps.

My little girl (5 months) is a good eater. She has been on formula and breast fed since birth till about a few weeks ago when she decided she was done with nursing. Luckily she has done well with formula (similac) and we were able to introduce foods. She still has a bottle about 24 oz a day on top of one jar of food. She did not like the rice cereal plain but we have added a little to her bottle to help fill her up. I agree with Hollie. If your doctor doesn't seem concerned your baby knows when he is hungry. I only suggest making sure he is really hungry and not frustrated in another way (which I am sure you know). I know a few that just give a bottle when ever their baby cries...(not saying you do this). just to make sure they are still eating and not making them finish or eat because they like it rather than need it. good luck with your good little eater!

Wow that seems like a lot of jars of baby food.. It could be his formula - if he drinks formula - making him spit up all the time.. i dono, we went through so many with our guy.. He eats like a champ but we just do 3 tbsp of oatmeal ceral at lunch time and then 4-5oz bottle of formulawith it, and then he has 1/2 jar of veggies for supper, and a bigger 9oz bottle at night before bed.. He has 2 other full 8oz bottles as well.. But he still does seem hungry after his veggies and formula feeding.. I wasnt sure if I could increase it or not, but i just may have to! haha, did you try him on any cereals? Logan couldnt poop well with Rice cereal so we changed to oatmeal .. so its all about what works for your baby! If your doctor thinks its not too much I wouldnt worry about thinking its too much, its your baby, if you feel its what he/she needs then I say go with your gut!

I am so glad you posted this because it allowed me to see where everyone else was in regards to introducing food. We just started my son, Grayson, on cereal due to his reflux....the Zantac wasn't really helping with the severe spit up or him being so uncomfortable. He right now is in the 80% for weight, the boy loves to eat haha, but he got there purely on nursing. I am starting to wein him from breast to bottle, plus add in the cereal. He gets the cereal once a day, BF about every 4 hrs, and one 6oz formula bottle to replace a BF session.

Jessica, we only started solids because my doctor suggested it as Cannan was always hungry, reaching for our food, and eating an excessive amount of formula!!! and spitting up ALL the time!!!

Now that he's on solids he's doing so much better, less then 30oz formula a day, lots of fruits and veg!!! And healthy as a horse

Start with a small portion of rice cereal, i made mine thick, use breast milk or formula and just try it, if he refuses don't push it, try again the next day

We started our boy on Rice cereal mixed with breastmilk 1 tbsp, he's now on 2 tbsp of that in the morning and about 1/2 a jar of veggies in the afternoon/evening. He nurses about 5 times a day and gets a 6 oz formula bottle once a day.

Wow! I'm amazed that you all have your babies on regular baby food already. I'm only just thinking of starting cereal for my little girl. She's exclusively breast-fed and doing really well, although I feel like we feed all day long. I just don't know where to start with spoon-feedings. Any suggestions?

is he on any medication for his reflux? Cannan is on something that starts with an L and takes 2.5ml of it daily. but he eats like a horse all the time, i make his food for him, and he eats it all no matter what, i just fed him 3 pots, avacodo, banana and sweet potato along with an 8oz bottle, but he only eats 3 times a day, maybe 4

He has 5 feedings a day, and each of them he finishes the entire jar of baby food, accompanied by a 5 oz bottle of formula. His reflux issue is bad, but it is a lot better with the baby food. I am going to ask our pedi tomorrow about it, he is going in for his shots.

my little guy is the same, sptting up all the time!!! I make my own babyfood but in the am he eats 2tbsp of rice cereal, and 2 pots of fruit and 6oz of formula, then he eats whenever he's hungry (4-5 hours later) 2 pots of veg and a 6-8oz bottle and then again 4-5- hours later the same and then before bed, generally between 7and 8pm he'll have some fruit and 2tbsp of cereal again and a 6-10oz bottle....

It seems like so much but he always seems hungry!!! He's a big boy so maybe thats why he's so hungry,, what about your little one?
