What kind of exercise are you doing now? I was trying to get back in shape when I found out I was pregnant again. My first pregnancy left me with bad back pains and I couldn't exercise (not even walking) at all. This time around, I'm trying to beat that and exercise regularly. Even if it is a little here and there. Any suggestions on what I can do at the gym? I have a membership, it was wasted last time, I don't want to waste it this time. What do you do?

Hi there, I'm a pre & postnatal exercise specialist and a certified sport and exercise nutrition coach. You need to start a strength training program (with weights) now. By rebuilding/maintaining your core strength, you can alleviate and prevent aches and pains regularily associated with pregnancy when the hormone relaxin kicks in. If you're someone who is super flexible, stay away from stretching and aquasize classes. Your last 2 months of pregnancy will be quite painful thanks to relaxin if you're not strengthening those joints enough. Check out www.fitmomfitness.com

With my son I was HUGE into DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) and was coaching a high school dance team so I got A LOT of exercise!! With this one though, its been a little more difficult. We have two flights of stairs in our house so that alone is quite a bit of exercise. On top of that though, I still play DDR and have picked up on Wii Fit. Two things we had already so we didn't spend any extra money. Before long I'll have to blow up my birthing ball and that has always been a good one to do exercises with. We also have a 4 mile paved trail that we'll walk in the evening now that's it not so hot!

Ive seen a few moms doing Body Attack and Body combat classes - really high intensity- and tough i think its not for me, i suppose if you do it at your own pace you should be ok. I havent done ANYthing since i got pregnant- too scared of overdoing it. But ill be going back next week. Ive read if you keep your heart rate at 140 (some say 150-160) then youre good. Mabe a good idea to invest in a good heart rate monitor. :) Ive also read about taking your core temperature, but frankly im not prepared to leave a class every 20 min just to go and stick a themometer up my backside- LOL.

I am 8 weeks along and going to Zumba classes. I have been three times while pregnant now and it's fun! You can work out and do whatever they teach you in the class in whichever way you feel comfortable so there is no stress on your body. Just do what feels right!

the thing i do most is yoga and walking to the store since it's only a mile away. I use to do lots of weights but i think that is a bad idea now. i also have the video fit mama and that helps a lot
