I know I won't be having a baby shower because so many of my friends and family members are out of work or having other financial problems. So I figure I should start buying something every pay check. What do you think?

I would take advantage of hand-me-down opportunities both with clothes and toys/highchair etc. Kids don't use many of these items for very long and they stay in great shape. I shop consignment for all my baby/toddler needs. I also regularly shop on Craigslist and eBay.
When your on a tight budget it is never a bad idea to put a little back every month for something as big is a new baby!

That is what we did with our first child. We actually started earlier then this. When we first found out we were pregnant, we ordered a crib. Our local shop let us pay over time, so it was perfect. Then each week at the grocery store we bought a package of diapers or wipes or shampoo. Once we found out the gender, we also started buying clothes. It was lucky for us that we were pregnant around the holidays, so I asked people to not get me a present but to get something for the baby, either a gift card or clothes or something.
With this kid, we already had most of the big stuff, and all we really had to do was buy girl clothes. So we sold all our boy stuff and bought girl stuff. Also, you can take advantage of after christmas sales, and consignment shops, or online like craigslist and ebay.

i started buying things from about month 2 - everyone told me not to "jinx" LO, but now i am glad as i got things like nappies and essentials and now i have a fairly nice stock :)

I have been buying things,little by little,all along.I am on a very tight budget.I've been looking on craigslist since I was about 3 months.And as I find good deals on the things I need,I get them then.It is helping a lot.I think it's a great idea!

we don't have alot of money right now because my husband and i are out of jobs. We apply everywhere to places tht claim they were hiring but never hear anything back. But hopefully he gets into police academy this jan. I'm not sure if i will have a baby shower or not. But for now the plan is do our taxes asap and use some of the money to buy everything i need. Trust me im so ready to shop i cant wait to have everything and be ready!!!

I've gotten lucky in a way, My little girl that we're expecting can use most of the stuff our son has already out grown, and we're getting LOTS of hand-me-downs and gifts, there's not a lot we need to buy other than a crib & mattress (that i can think of now) so I'll probably start saving up for that. You've got a great idea! It's a lot easier to put 20 dollars aside at a time than to come up with several hundred dollars at once :)

i think it's a great idea! all that stuff really adds up quick, so doing it a little at a time will really help.

that is a good idea or every paycheck jus take out a certin amout of money like a baby budget?.... i dont by things to early cause i feel like it is bad luck... but in your cause to slowly build up what you are ganna need now is a good idea in your case... good luck an congrats
