How do you promote your business?

Hi there,

I am new to the board. I am a Mary Kay consultant of three months now. So far I have had two parties. I am finding hard to convince family and friend to have parties.
I do have two more parties book for next month, but I really want to work on getting more parties and building a team.
So I thought if we shared our ideas and ideas on promoting our business we can all reach our goals that we set when joining Mary Kay.

One of the ways I promoted my business was to hand out thank you cards with Samples and look books to my neighbours. The thank you card said...thank you for being my neighbour let me pamper you. So far I have had one neighbour take me up on it, though she had to cancel because her new born was sick so we have re-scheduled for next week.

I had the same issue last year then I let myself lapse and I just rejoined in September. Family and friends are great but it will not get to far. You have to promote yourself.



Some things I have done this time around is let people you see on a daily basis know what you do, wear your name tag out running errands, with Halloween here I went to the dollar store and made little "treat" bags with a few pieces of candy, my business card and a coupon for a facial hand them out but make sure to get a name and number so you can follow up with them that evening to set the appointment then have them invite a friend or two.



I also made halloween treat bags for my neighborhood and since we will be out trick or treating I put a coupon in there for mom for a free facial. my director sends all kinds of fun ideas so i changed one of them up and made copies.



Dont go crazy with handing out the Look book because they are so expensive..send folks to your website everything they need and then some is there.



Go to some of your local tanning salons, dance studios, your hair salon and see about setting up fish bowls to win a free facial. Maybe raffle off a gift certificate to the location pick one winner for that and give everyone the free facial of course when you talk to them have them invite a few friends to make it a party and dont forget to make follow up appointments for their color consultation.

You can let people know you're building your portfolio and are in need of models. If you're doing this with someone you just met, offer a sincere compliment first. Anyone would be flattered to be considered a model. Explain that you will do a skin care facial, take a photo, then apply an on-the-go makeup look and take another photo and their before and after photo will be featured, free! They can also be offered a $10 gift certificate for appreciation of their time. That can be used toward the purchase of their favorite product. And if they give you referrals you can offer other incentives as well.
