Try "Vanicream". It's OTC, but I had to ask the pharmacy at Walmart to order it for me.. My daughter's allergist specialist suggested it. It's super creamy & rich. Also key is to let your child soak in a tub for a long period of time (20-30 min), don't use soap & apply cream while still damp. My daughter's eczema is pretty much gone.

Eczema WILL keep coming back if you don't use it consistantly.

My sister has this problem as well, her skin actually cracks and bleeds on a regular basis. We do not use soap on her (unless needed) and use spectro kids eczema care. It is the only thing that works for her it is not a prescription and can be purchased at almost any drug store. Hope this helps

Have you had your child tested for specific allergies using the scratch test?

My daughter also has eczema pretty bad.Her doctor gave her a script for an ointment called betamethasone valerate and it works so good.We have tried creams before but i think that ointment works better because it is thicker. What we were told to do is as soon as she gets out of the shower or bath just pat her dry and while she is still kinda wet,mix the ointment and some regular lotion(something for sensitive skin)in you hand and put it all over her body, this works so well for her.We have to do this for about 3-4 days in a row and then she is pretty good for at least a month or so.Good Luck

My daughter has had eczema on her legs since she was a little baby--We tried lots of creams and lotions, but what has worked the best is a combination of cetaphil and hydrocortizone. I put a dab of each on my finger and just cover the area. Limiting the time she spends in a hot bath also seems to have helped a bit.

I, myself, do not use sented soaps or lotions. I have used Dove body wash. I have used hydrocortizone creams and BOTH Eucerine and Aveeno Baby Lotion. I use All Free & Clear laundry detergent and no commercial fabric softener (some times I will use vinegar). However, ABSOLUTELY NONE of that worked with my daughter's eczema.

I am finally seeing results with COD LIVER OIL!!!! Previously I had said Caster Oil, but I had confused the two, sorry... Recently, my almost 3 year old son started showing signs of also having eczema in a much milder form. He is now taking the Cod Liver Oil also. Walmart carries an Orange flavor that they both LOVE!

Not trying to sound condescending or anything but I have a question? Are you using unscented soaps and lotions? My son has eczema but not severely. He had a very bad case of it when he was younger but I guess he has somehow grown out of it maybe. But my pediatrician suggested to use an unscented soap like Dove or Carress. Then after the bath to lotion him down with a hydrocortisone cream followed by either Eucerin or Baby Aveeno Lotion. I found though that the Eucerin was too strong for my son and often broke him out more. But after using that combo, my son hasn't had too many more breakouts. So, I guess it's kinda trial and error until you find the right combo for your child.

Last month I was randomly flipping through a magazine and stumbled across a sugar scrub facial recipe. The basic ingredients were brown sugar and olive oil - they added other ingredients too. The formula was 2 parts brown sugar to 1 part olive oil. Pretty simple. I tried it on my daughter THAT NIGHT and have been using it with good results every couple days. I scrub her down with it and then have her rinse it off, some nights I even do her scalp with it. I've tried using a gentle and natural body wash after, but some times that just dries her out. Most of the time I have her rinse really good and use a wash cloth. It's kind of like using bath beads. It smells pretty good, kind of like a sugar cookie! Maybe this will work.

The other day I got a phone call from my aunt, a pharmacy tech, telling me that in our local paper there had a suggestion made in a Dear Doctor type column for eczema - Caster Oil. It's not very good tasting or smelling, but it could be "hidden" in chocolate milk - chocolate will cover strong flavors. I'm not sure on amounts at this moment, but as soon as I get them my daughter is going to be trying it! I'll keep you posted... Good luck!

My daughter also has severe eczema. Her's is all over her body, but it is worst on her feet. She has had it since she was a very small baby. I think that I have tried everything to clear it up and get rid of it. Tea baths and baths with corn meal or ground oatmeal seem to do pretty good to sooth her and keep some of the itching down. There is also a body wash by Eucerine that I have found at Walgreens that helps. None of these will make it go away, I'm not sure that there is anything that will do that (wish there was). Eczema is something that can stick around for life (I have it and so does my mother-in-law). It can be a genetic thing, but it can also be stress-induced or an allergy.... Have the doctors ruled out the allergy factor? If not this may be somewhere to look..... I was also reading an article on kids eating fish, and studies showed that babies who ate fish had a lower chance of getting eczema! It was in this months Parents magazine... Good luck...
