issue is, he doesn't listen to me on first instruction, when i repeat it second or third time( a bit of shouting at this moment), then he listens to me and my 5 year daughter is picking up the same thing. Don't know what i am doing wrong.please share your experience.

I am also experiencing this with my May 2005 son. It almost seems as if he disobeys me just to see me upset ;( I feel as if im failing as a parent.

I totally agree with Shannon!!!! With my daughter I'll say Jayden you have so and so amount of time to get this done and if it's not done in that time frame then you get so and so amount of time playing taking away. Since she loves to play and is good friends with our neighbor I'll also use that her play time with the neighbor will be cut shorter. It's amazing how fast they listen when you say your going to take something away from them that they want.

My son is the same way! What seems to help is when I ask him to do something, I give him a time frame. "Alex, you have 5 minutes to pick up your socks and put them in the hamper. If they are not picked up in 5 minutes you will lose 15 minutes of TV". As he loves the little bit of TV time he gets,( 30 minutes a day during the week and 2 hrs on weekends) he usually listens quickly. Find what it is he does not want to be without and use it to your advantage. You have to give him a chance to listen though, and I know Alex puts up more of a fuss if I stand there waiting. I act like I don't care if he listens, it is his loss not mine. It seems to help.
