Ok so I'm a little jealous of those of you who have potty trainning so easy! I have literally been potty trainning my son since he was like 2. . . he is now 4 1/2! He knows what to do and when to do it but REFUSES! I don't get it. He goes pee with no problems at all (although he still has to have a pull-up at night). He just will NOT have a BM unless it's in his pull-ups. HELP!! I have tried everything. I have researched different ways to do it and everything. . . nothing is working. I know they say they will do it when they are ready but he KNOWS what to do. I just don't know what to do anymore. He can't start school until he is potty trained! HELP!! :-/

Sounds exactly like my son. And he started preschool this year. He was peeing on the regular toilet at 2yrs. And still at 4 would not go #2 unless in a pull up. He went last may 8 times..then went backwards...I was so frustrated and one time tried the tuff love everyone with their squaky opinions told me to do.. Yah..It made him regress more. So I stopped for a while. I did encourage , but did not push. And let it go for a bit. He has ibs like Ido which makes things worse. He still only goes a little every few days. But just keep encouraging him. Get him some books/ a cool new game that he can only use when he is trying to use the potty chair. Make sure he is comfortable. Sit in and read his books while he tries.. Even if it takes a while. Once he does it once.. make a big HUGE fuss over it, make him realllly proud! And then remove all pullups from his view. And just keep going from there. I still have days where its a struggle. But have patience. Boys are harder than girls to. And if there is something bothering them, it effects them even more... Good luck!

I did it when he was 3 and you need to keep him naked. Try giving him treats, I got smarties and said if you go then you get that. Also remember boys take longer, and second, find out how often he goes. So basically spend a day first realizing when he wets his diaper and then after that take him after that amount of time. My son used to go every 2-3 hrs so I used to take him after that long. Thirdly, even now not all the time he tells me, I take him every three hours without fail.

Get rid of the pull-ups!!! I did the naked method at 23 months and my son was potty trained fully in 3 days. Although 4 might be a little old for that method. Just get rid of the pull-ups and deal with a few messes for a few days and then you'll be done. Stand your ground and don't give in! Kids are so much smarter then we give them credit for. I think the biggest mistakes that people make with potty training is starting too late and using pull-ups. They are diapers!! The kid knows this so why would he care if he goes in his pants...

Four year olds are very capable individuals. Trying to force potty training will make them put that ability into rebellion. You've just got to make it clear that full toileting is necessary or he can't go to school, and then leave it to him. My 4yo has autism, and was convinced that toileting was not for him. He peed in the toilet at kinder occasionally, and sometimes at home, over about 6 months, but just when he felt like it. He still wore pull-ups all the time. Then the hot weather arrived (we're in Australia) and he found the pull-ups too hot. We just took them off him and told him he needs to use the toilet now, and suddenly, something clicked; and he started to use the toilet all by himself. He even had dry nights with no nappy. So, Amber, be positive with him but not pushy. Make your expectations known and then have patience, and take any opportunity to get him out of the pull-ups. Good luck!
