My alomst 3 year old keeps telling her tummy hurts. She doesnt have any of the symptems of worse case senarios as she is pooping and peeing regular and all look fine.

anyone have any idea how long this will last and soem ideas of what i can say to her?

My daughter has been saying this for 3 months. She is 5 years old. I took her to docs and they got her to point to a picture of what her poo looks like... to cut a long story short - they have said she may not be drinking enough fluids!

My 6 almost 7 year old is always complaining of this tummy thing. Her toilet movements are all good. But it seems like something to get out of something. Im going to do the right thing and take her to the doctor. Because i need peace of mind. But it seems to be an on going pain. Will keep you posted as to what the doc says.

Hi there, I know I am very late with this post, but my daughter is 5 and she is still going through this stage and I don't know what to do... Especially when it comes to food. Last night, she didn't even have one bite of her food. She just sat and stared at it for 2 hours. I tried bribing her, I tried threatening her, but not even one bite! And it is not that it was food she doesn't like either, last night we had burgers... a general favourite of hers. And then all the excuses in the world come out "Momy I am too tireed"... "Mommy, my tummy hurts".... What can I do about this???

My daughter did the same thing. I just thought something was going on at school. One night she stated throwing up along having to poop. I finally took her to her daughter to find out what was wrong. After several months of in and out of the ER she was having a allerigic reaction to everything she was eating. I would get her checked. She can be eating something she had last year and had no problem with it till now.

My son has been telling me for weeks that his tummy hurts. And it does seem to be around when it is time to eat or after he drinks something. He doesn't say this when he is at the grandma's just with mommy and Daddy. I have also noticed when he says he can't eat becuase his tummy hurts, we tell him he needs to go lay down....then all of the sudden the tummy doesn't hurt. I do believe him sometimes because we will head to the bathroom and he will go potty and then feel better. So I think sometimes it hurts becuase he has to go and sometimes it is because he doesn't want to eat....

My daughter is almost 4 and still does this!sometimes it IS because she has to use the bathroom, but if that's the problem,my husband & I can tell, because its followed by gas,or other REAL symptoms. The majority of the tme she says her tummy hurts is when she's "full" of cleaning up her toys,or soooo sick she can't take a nap. Lol. I have been a teacher of children infant thru school age for years now,and can tell u all this..girls are good manipulators! ;-)

Ha!! This is a great post!! yes of course we have heard this!! Ours is at dinner time after she's eaten some and doesn't like it, she will then chug her milk (as she likes that) and then says her tummy hurts......well if I drank milk that fast my tummy would hurt too, so we have to with-hold her milk until after shes done or closely watch her to "take turns" with her food!! HA! Also, she's picked up on the words "I don't feel good" to try to get out of something......still trying to figure out how she picked up that for getting out of something!! Doesn't work for me anymore!! If it continues around "poopy" time, I'd keep asking the doctor about it :)

It could actually be something ... You could always start with lactose free milk for a week or two & see if it makes a difference. The yogurt thing is great; keep that up. You may have to actually WRITE-DOWN when she says her belly hurts to see any trends. Don't put too much stock in it, but continue to pay attention (and maybe write it down to see if there is a trend with time of day & eating pattern(s)) .... Best wishes!

I had the same thing with my son. I took him to see the GP who really wasn't interested because his tummy was always fine while we were there. So I went to see a good naturopath and after he did some blood tests we discovered that he had "leaky gut symdrome". We treated it, changed his diet, and now he doesn't complain of a sore tummy anymore.

Good luck!

For quite a while my son would tell me his tummy hurt and throat hurt. I thought it was something he would play on till i took him to the doctor and found out that he had an infection and it flared up in his glands near his tummy and throat.

Dont dismiss what your daughter is telling you and look a bit further into it.

My son says that all the time, and before I would ask him if he had to poop, which he almost always did. Occassionally he'd be hungry but not as often. So now that I'm potty training I would put a diaper on him when he said that so he didn't have a mess to clean up and now sometimes I think he says it just wear a diaper. So now my bigger problem is getting him to poop on the potty lol

I am now going throug that but the only difference is my son says his tummy and his throat both hurt. He started that 3 days ago including today. So I finally looked at his throat and his tonsels a swollen and have white bloches on them. The reason I didnt look before is because he is always trying to find ways to get out of having to eat.

omg yes, and its really annoying, especially because instead of rubbing his tummy he hold his throat which makes it even more obvious hes lying.

My daughter does this too. Sometimes she really just needs to go potty, but once she had a UTI. The UTI caused her stomach to ache.

My daughter says this all the time.. When she does I tell her to go sit for a little while and about 5 mins later she is all better. When we went to her 3 year well child appt. and the doc. check it out and said everything looked fine just keep an eye on it. When she dosent want to do something its always "mama my knee hurts or its to heavy i cant" lol your barbie doll is not to heavy for you to put it away.

I hear it all the time... I just tell her to poop and it will feel better... 9 times out of 10 it works and then I hear I feel much better now. lol but we did just find out that she carries the celiac disease gene also so have to be careful with too much glutin in her diet.

my daughter, up until just the last couple of days has been telling me her butt hurts. :) I tell her she needs to go poopoo and she does. She has also been telling me thather ear hurts yet there is no infection inside and the ear she says hurts is not the one that has been giving ME a problem since we repierced her ears. This is absolutely hilarious that all these girls are doing the same thing at the same time.

That is crazy! My Almost 3 yr old has recently started the same behavior! I have found that its usually when she needs to poop that she is saying this. She also does like Tasha Henderson's daughter, I'm sooo tired, I can't do it, about climbing the stairs up to our apartment! That is so great, these lil May girls have so much in common, its almost eery! giggles. I have never met another 2 year old that is like my daughter, and to see that these girls are so much alike, is i don't know, I guess, kind of cool, i think! :)

My daughter did this and part of it was for attention or to get out of doing things she didn't want to do. We also figured out that she could not tell the difference between being hungry and her stomach actually hurting. A lot of times, once she ate she was much better.

yes we have tried distractions, i am actually thinking it is a real thing now.
My mom suggested to have her eat yogurt once a dy for a week and try that. but she does seem to only complain around the time she is hungry. or bedtime. LOL but i am noticing when it seems real and when it is not
she has the hunger and the full pains mixed up for awhile, so i think this is part of it. but it if need to i will take he to the docs. i will email them this week as to set up her new doc as hers retired and we have been waiting to get a new permnant one.

My son tells me that his foot hurts whenever he decides that he's too tired to walk somewhere, and wants me to be carried. He also tells me that his arms hurts when it's nap time, and that his head hurts when he doesn't want to do what I've asked him to do.

I have various "distraction" techniques that seem to work, but generally I just ask if he'd like me to kiss it better. He looks sad and nods, I kiss the "sore place" better, and then we get on with whatever we're supposed to be doing. eg. When I ask him to pack up his blocks, he tells me his head hurts. I ask if he'd like me to kiss it better. He says yes, so I give him a kiss on the head. I ask if that's better. He says yes. Then I say, "Then let's get your blocks packed up."

I'm not sure if this would help with your daughter, but I've found that making a big deal out of it only encourages my boy to think his ploy is working. So I'm quite matter-of-fact about things.

My daughter started that about 3 weeks ago. I have found its when she has to go to the bathroom or because she doesnt want to do what I asked. Her other excuse is "I'm to tiredMommy i need a nap"
