Funny you should say that, as Einstein was a late talker - he didn't talk until he was three. :)

My daughter, born May 19th, doesn't say much either. And she was born on time! She has A LOT of baby babble, but only a few words. There's no mama yet. She says See ya, bye, hi, itty (kitty), and that's about it. Although the doctor and other moms assure me that there's nothing to be worried about, I still worry. Everybody wants their child to be the next Einstein! Well...Maybe not that extreme

I totally understand! I was in the same position. He came 4 weeks early and was considered a preemie. He mostly answers any questions that I ask him with a yes or no. He tries to repeat everything I ask him to say and he can count and knows most of his colors. But, he language is still hard to understand so when I ask him what did he say, he will take me to what he wants...

my little boy (may 30th) doesn't say much either, but then neither did his big brother. his brother was almost 3 before he really took off. the littlest one does say stuff clearly from time to time, but he's not very consistant right now. he'll talk when he really wants something. I don't worry about it too much. I just try to tell him the names of everything he points to, and know that eventually we won't be able to get him to shut up lol. his first really clear word was batman, so I know he's capable of things besides mama, dada and grampa. just keep working with him. things have a way of working out when you least expect it. good luck!

My 20 months old son talks all the time in baby language as my 4 years old son was speaking in complete sentences before 18 months – he was 4 weeks early and listed him as premature.  My concern is that he believes he is talking and gets so distress when we don’t understand him at times.  Especially at his 4 years old brother, to the point he hits.  This is driving me crazy!

It seems a lot of boys around 20 months of age are not speaking actual words and all their Pediatrician say don’t worry – including my own.  I hope you are feeling better and not letting it get to you.

As for me and other mothers around my son age is trying to figure out how to stop the hitting due to them not able to communicate.

Thanks Bec! It drives me crazy that he doesn't talk because my 3 year old was using full sentences by 15 months old...I just feel like my 20 month old is behind and I'm always freakin out because he was 6 weeks premature and I guess I've been waiting for someone to tell me that this is because of that...Thanks again though for your response.

I recently took my little boy to clinic and the nurse said as long as they can say three words other than mum and dad you shouldn't be worried. Also boys progress slower than girls. I hope this may be useful.
