hey i was just wondering if there are any other moms dealing with sick kids out there. my son started gettin seizures at 3 months. now he's 14 months old and on july 31st he's getting an MRI. he has to take medicine every day and im having troubles giving it to him. they don't make it in liquid form so i have to crush the pill. we tried putting in in food on a spoon for a while but he started to spit it out.. now we put it in some water and give it to him in a syringe but its still a struggle.. any suggestions on something i can mix it with that could mask the tase but will be watery enough to use a syringe for? i've tried compounding pharmacies but they don't know how to compound this particular drug.

even if you don't have any advice feel free to post your own stories or comments. any support is welcomed. i'm struggling a bit having a sick little boy and being pregnant with my second not knowing if it's going to be healthy or not. any words of encouragement would be wonderful.

HI there Amanda :) My daughter was born with atrial tachycardia. For the first year I had to give her two doses of medicine at 8am. one dose at 2pm. two doses at 8pm. and then wake her in the middle of the night to give her one dose at 2 am. So if anyone can relate to giving medicine on a daily basis it would be me ;) Even if they had a liquid form out there doesnt mean it would be a heck of a lot better. one of my daughters liquid meds was flavored strawberry lime (YA RIGHT) it smelled horrid! But now that your little one is 14 mths it thankfully gives you more choices because they can eat solids. the things I suggest for masking the meds may not be healthy but..... its not like your giving them lots. I would try chocolate milk thats a little milk and with a nice helping of chocolate syrup .. I wouldnt use powder cause you want something thick to mask it more. if he doesnt like chocolate, do the strawberry syrup with milk. Hope everything works out, just have faith!!!

have you tried crushing it into some honey? My mum used to do that with us kids.

Hey my son was born with a Ventricular Septal Defect in his heart. He is not currently taking any medications for VSD. He did have problems with feedings until he was about 7mo old. He has had really bad ear infections also and has been on several kinds of medications. I know with my son my if I can have it mixed with something sweet like fruit that always seems to help. I bet that medication is bitter and I know you had said liquid would work best so maybe a juice that he really likes might help. It so hard to have a child that is sick, I know there are sometimes I wish that I could be the one with the problem and not my little guy. I think it is so hard because he can't just look up at me and say that he is okay or that this does not feel right. I think that is the hardest part for me. Have you ever tried explaining to him that this is his medicine and that he needs this to help him. Then when you are giving him the medication talking him thought it and telling him what your doing. That has helped with keeping myself calm and I think that it has helped. I wish you luck on getting the medication in your son. I hope that his MRI goes well for the both of you.
