Ayden has them so bad that he wont wake up for 10 minutes or so and just screams and cries. It makes you feel helpless. I dont know if or how to wake him up during these. I dont want to shake him and make the fear that much worse. I talk to him softly and hold him while rubbing or rocking him until it subsides but I wish there was a way to take him out of it. Any ideas??????

I agree with the night terror part. My daughter woke screaming at 8mo turned out to be separation anxiety at night cause she was awake. But doc described night terrors and they sound like you describe. The baby is upset but sleeping and can't be woken. They actually are still getting rest and will have no idea it happened in the morning. You are not to wake them, it makes it worse cause they have no idea its happening. Its brought on by a very tired baby or times of stress. Check with your doc.

that is not a night mare, they are called night terrors, they are totally different, night mares the child remembers it the next morning, but night terrors the child is still asleep and can not be waken, just make sure that he cant hurt himself (fall out of bed/cot) and just rub hes back, night mares are not common in young children but night terrors are. If you goggle nightterrors there are a lot of moms out there in your shoes!! they say if you wake them while they are having a night terror is just makes them worst, just stay close and maybe talk softly to them but what ever you try to do, he wont snap out of it. good luck
