I posted this question in another community as well, but I'm desperate for help. My husband and I recently moved with our daughter (one on the 16th) to South Africa for our job. She has always been a great sleeper and loved being swaddled tightly at night. When we got here though, it was the middle of summer and just too hot for that, so she got used to sleeping in her pajamas in the crib. The problem is, now the weather is getting VERY cold, we have no central heating, the floors are all tile and the ceilings are incredibly high. I've tried layering her, and then putting a blanket on, but she's gotten so used to moving around at night, that the blanket seems to wake her up because she can't move. Any suggestions or has anyone else been in the same boat? I'm desperate!

Same problem for me, my son likes to kick off his blankets and our nights are getting down to 4C and NO central heating. We have a rug in his room and sometimes i put a little heater on, I have flannelette sheets but no wool underlay because of allergies.

I layer him with singlet, long sleeve, short sleeve and a jumper (sweater in some countries) and a thick pair of track pants. i put socks on but they never stay on.

Sleep sacks! They are great because you can layer under them, and the baby is free to move around as much as they want.

Hey what about a Sheepskin rug? I know several people who have used those since birth. Maybe put a fitted sheet on top of it...

I would just layer. Put jammies and socks on under a footed sleeper. I don't know how cold it gets in africa but they say babies need one more layer than you feel comfortable in cold weather. She might not be as cold as you think. If she sleeps well don't worry!

Space heaters in her room? Large area rug to insulate the room?

I have used "Halo" brand sleep sacs with my son. You can order them on the internet if they do not sell them in South Africa. They come in a light cotton and a heavy fleece material. My apt gets really cold in the winter even with the heat on. We had to put a space heater in his room as well as putting him in a heavy sleeper and the sleep sac. My son is also a roller and we have not used blankets yet with him due to this.

HI, sleeping bags are great. Bub can still roll around, and you don't have to worry about them not being covered with a blanket. I put a few layers of clothes on my daughter aswell as the sleeping bag, she also doesn't like a blanket!! (Colder it is, more layers)

I don't know if they have these in South Africa, but in the US they sell sort of a wearable sleeping bag/sack. A friend of mine uses those, because her baby's a roller.
