Changing to whole milk

I put my son on 2% milk instead of whole milk. Since changing him to milk his constipation issues have actually gotten a whole lot better. When he was on formula I always had to add an extra ounce or 2 or water to his formula otherwise he would get corked up. My son refuses to drink juices so I had to add a tablespoon of dark Kayro syrup to his bottles a few times when it got really bad.

I am having the same problem. I let him always have a sippy cup with water or 1/2 water 1/2 pear juice around him (usually water) and this has really helped a lot. Also, the doctor told me to keep him under 4 serving of whole milk a day maximum to help prevent the problem.

Yup, you and your son are not alone. My son had the same thing happen. He likes the milk, but without really watching the rest of what he eats, he can get blocked up. I just make sure he gets lots of water, and some watered-down juice, and I increased the fruits/veggies and decreased the bread etc. We seem to be thru the adjustment stage (knock on wood!) Good luck - it shall pass (no pun intended lol)

Echoing the same advice here - juice mixed with water, pears and other fruits, etc... We are trying to increase her water intake. We also started adding a little bran to some of her meals. We are making a conscious effort to give her only whole grains including whole wheat pasta, etc. Since about a week ago, she also takes a little colace every day. Seems to be helping ut I would discuss your son's situation with your doctor first - ours prescribed a liquid formulation.

What everyone else says! More fiber foods, more water. Dairy is constipating, as well as the switch to more solid foods is hard on their systems. Its not just the fiber in prune juice, it actually has a natural laxative in it. I don't let my daughter drink juice, so I give her a little straight from the med dropper. Works, be careful though cause you can get the opposite reaction! Also my doc said something about karos syrup and water. Never tried it cause the prune juice worked, ask your doc?

My son has had problems with milk intake since he was born. He was put on a special formula and I just took him off of it at one year. He is now on whole vitamin D milk. He too will scream with he has a bowel movement. My mom told me to make sure to give him juice and seems to work. Also he eats a small portion of orange everyday. This usually is hard on most babies stomachs with the citric acid and all but the acid helps break his food down and also makes his number 2's easier. My family has a long line of these kinds of problems. Hope I can help.

Yes, up the fiber intake and up the water intake if possible. I also give my daughter pear or prune juice sometimes (watered down 50/50). Pear actually has more fiber than Prune but the pear juice can only be found in the baby isle while prune juice is also in the adult juices. I also stay away from bananas and anything else I know that is constipating. *hugs* I know how hard it is to see your little one in pain trying to go #2.

Mine oldest had troubles going to number 3. She turned hyper actife. Then I turned to whole milk and everything was ok again.

Now with mine youngest I went to whole milk when she turned 1 year. No problems here.
