eye infection?

[deleted account] ( 5 moms have responded )

My almost 6 month old little guy is having eye junk. When he wakes up they're matted shut (both eyes) and there is a yellow discharge. He also has a cough and snotty nose. I'm pretty sure it's not pink eye as I have a 10 year old who gets that quite a lot and his eyes are not pink or bloodshot but they are really watery.

Do I need to take him to the doctor or is this just a cold that has gotten into his eyes? I hate to go to the doctor for them to tell me it's a virus and there is nothing they can do about it.

Ideas?

I did end up taking him to the doctor yesterday and that's what they told me too - ear infection.

My daughter had the same thing...a cough & runny nose for almost 2 weeks, then the last few days, her eyes were watering & there was yellow/green discharge. Yesterday she had a fever too, so I took her to the doctor's....turns out it's an ear infection. I had no idea....she wasn't pulling at her ears, and really didn't seem bothered.

He probably does not have Pink eye, but conjuctivitis, which he would need eye drops. I would at least call the doctor's office
