Ok so my 9 month old baby girl is laid back. She is quiet and happy but rarely wants to move out of a sitting position. I really wasn't worried. Having a 4 yr. old I kind of appreciated her willingness to sit and play for long periods of time. But now my ped is telling me that she should be flipping over from her back to tummy and bouncing in a crawling position without me placing her in these positions. My peds has even now recomended physical therapy.

Is anyone else's baby at 9 months crawling all around and doing flips on the floor??

A concerned but not worried mother,

Magan

Honestly, I think they all develop at their own pace. I'm in the same boat as you, with an almost 11month old and a 4 year old. My 11 month just started kind of scoot crawling this past weekend. Like yours, she would roll all over the place, then readjust her angle to roll and get what she wanted. She does, however, demand to stand up and is trying to pull herself up too. I think seeing big sister walking all over the place, NOT CRAWLING, she doesn't see the need to crawl. She sits and scoots on her butt, leans way over and half reaches to get something and sits back up. Don't know the health history of your baby, but I think in our case Reflux has been a big deterrent. She has never liked to be on her belly because it causes her discomfort and makes her spit up. My hubby finally got her to scoot/crawl across the floor this weekend by placing one of big sister's toys out of her reach- I had done this in the past with one of her baby toys, but that apparently wasn't incentive enough to get a move on! He placed sister's toy out of reach and kind of had the baby in a confined area where she couldn't just roll to get to the object, and somehow she decided to give a crawl a try. I wouldn't worry too much, but see how she does over the next month. Hope that helps!

My daughter who just turned 10 months yesterday started to crawl 3 days ago. She has been sitting on her butt, looking at the world for a while. But before she started to crawl she was abel to go from tummy to a sitting postion and from her butt to a crawling postions.

All babies develop on different schedules but if your pediatrician is telling you there might be something wrong and you question it, you may want to get a second opinion. My son will be 11 months old tomorrow and crawled for the first time at 7 months and now he's just about walking...but again some babies never crawl and some babies don't walk until well past a year old...

My son will be 11 mos in a less than a week...He has been doing a "butt scoot" for the past 2 months instead of crawling. He will roll around and twist around in his crib and on the floor. He will walk along anything he can hold on to. He is into everything, very inquizitive and observant copying what he sees...or at least trys to. I can't leave him sitting on the floor to use the bathroom or anything, as he will not be any where near where I set him down 10 seconds ago.

PT is not always bad...Sometimes babys that have older siblings don't aways do everything at set times due to the older siblings doing it for the baby. My sister didn't talk for a long time due to our older sister always talking for her. I didn't walk until late because I had 2 older sisters that would always carry me or push me around.

My son will be 10mnts at the end of the month. He is only army crawling at this point, and won't or can't go from sitting position to crawling position. He is just starting to learn to pull up on things. He is also very laid back. He seems content to be where ever and how ever I put him down. I have started to put him down sitting, and put all his toys just outta reach. He rocks forward for them sometimes, and sometimes he will just sit there. I like you am a little concerned, but think that all babies do things in their own time. It is hard b/c everyone keeps asking why isn't he 'really' crawling yet, or doing this or that- but I now just think that he will do it when he wants to- he is just very content.

Hope this helps

My son is crawling and does flip over.  One of the things that we did with my son was put him tummy down on his boppy pillow to help him get use to the position of crawling.  Plus, we would try helping him flip over toward objects that he like ( bubbles, blocks, elmo, ect.).  Plus, if you ped wants your child to go a physical therapy...they will do a lot of the activities that you can also do a home, usually they are really easy and simple.  Best of luck!

My daughter is all over the place!  She has been crawling for about a month and cruising and attempting to walk for about 2mths.  My hubby was kinda a lazy baby, he didn't start walkinguntil 18mths bc he was always in a walker.  All babies are different so I wouldn't worry just yet, but it's def a good idea to talk to your dr about it just to be safe.  Does she try to roll and can't or can she and just doens't want too?  Best of luck and I'm sure she will be all over in no time!

My daughter is crawling all over the place and starting to pick up speed! She is also getting closer and closer to walking. All babies are different but they generally hit certain milestones by certain times, like the rolling. Are you saying your daughter does not know how to roll or just doesn't feel like it? That is a huge difference. My husband didn't walk until he was 18-19mo old cause he was so chill and lazy lol. Our daughter will be walking by 11mo old.

Well my daughter will be 10 months the 15th of this month, and she hasn't started to crawl yet she did take her first try at it yesterday and tried again lastnight so I think she will learn soon, but she mainly rolls everywhere she will roll one way then another and then sit up change her position and then roll some more, I think all baby's are different a baby that is two days older than her in our Church and smaller than her is already walking so I think different kids do different things, she will do things in her own time not yours.
