Has your baby had his/her first hair cut yet?

I have yet to cut my little guys hair. He has the cutest curl when his hair is wet and well moisturized.
I'm getting a little flack from some family to cut his hair. A stranger called him a girl one time when my husband had him and that kinda upset him. But, to me he looks nothing like a little girl, so I think the lady was just crazy. LOL
So just thought I would hear some thoughts on babies first hair cuts and if you got any good stories about first hair cuts.
Thanks!

My daughter is 5 and has never had her hair cut... not even "bangs". In my culture we are encouraged to wear long hair, as it represents strength. Although my daughter likes her long hair, I know that one day she might want to cut it and I will support her decision. The only guideline I put in place was that she wait until she is 13. I have the same one for ear piercings. Most of my friends with baby girls pierced their ears before they were 4 months old. Again, it's a cultural thing, but we believe the body is sacred and is to be respected by all others. For a parent to pierce a child's ears without their informed (mature) consent is violating the child's body; therefore, it is forbidden. Whether my child had been a boy or girl was irrelevant. The hair stays until age 13. Tradition/culture or not, it is purely a personal decision that you and your child should make together.

I finally cut my son's hair after getting tired of hearing my husband complain. I would say leave it as long as you are happy with it. Remember those curls don't come back, enjoy them while you can.

Ben has had his first haircut yesterday! Such a good little man. Yep he lost some of his curls, but he still has ringlets. The hairdresser said he has actual curls, not just baby curls. So basically he will never lose them!

Jocelyn's hair took a while to grow period! She has yet to get a hair cut and we don't plan on cutting it at all to be honest unless it is absolutely necessary. She has the TIGHTEST curls all over her head just like her Daddy....it doesn't help that I have curly hair too! LOL So, it looks shorter than what it really is; but when the time comes she may get a cut.

I have a price change from my previous post about the first haircuts offered at the Harmony Barbershop at Walt Disney World. I just got a newsletter that said the first haircuts were now $18. Still not bad a bad price since we have to pay $15 at the barbershop here at home. Regular children's haircuts with the colored hair gel and glitter are cheaper.

Jamey had his first haircut over the summer. He doesn't like the heat and his hair was always soaked in sweat, so we gave him a buzz cut. It was sad to see it go but he was a lot cooler after we cut it.

We have yet to cut Landon's hair. It is past his shoulders, but I absolutely love the length of his hair. My family is giving me some crap about it saying that he looks like a girl, but we don't care. My husband and I are wanting to wait until he is at least 2 before we cut it. We just aren't ready to part with any of his hair just yet!

My son is yet to have his first hair cut, as he has very fine hair and it's still not that long anyway... My daughter however had her first haircut at around 12 months and goes every 6 months or whenever her fringe grows too long, which ever comes first. She loves it, but she loves people playing with her hair anyway

My son got his first hair cut just before his 1st birthday. He goes in about once a month now to get a hair cut. His hair is so thick in the back and grows pretty fast.

My son Jamie has had three haircuts since June and is getting in need of another soon. We had his first haircut done at the Harmony Barbershop at Walt Disney World. For $14 he got the haircut, mouse ears that said first haircut and a cute Disney certificate stating that he bravely submitted to his first haircut at Disney and it gave the date and the name of the lady that cut it. They also wrap up some of the curls for you to take home as well. They stuck Mickey stickers all over his shirt which kept him occupied most of the time that she was cutting. When he started to get antsy, she pulled out a little spinning Mickey toy for him to play with. We got great photos as well as video (grandparents wanted to see what they had missed) and it was a highlight of our trip. For those who are interested I would suggest you go early as they get a waiting line quickly (no reservations). They also do regular kid cuts and then style them with colored gels and glitter. Much cheaper than the Bippity Boppity Boutique experience.

We cut my son's hair when he was just over a year because I noticed it was starting to bug him. He looked all cute will it shaggy, and it's this gorgeous blonde with just the bit of a hint of a wave, but when I noticed he was pushing it out of his eyes and scratching his neck every few minutes I knew it was time to cut it.

Since then we just keep it buzzed and I actually LOVE how he looks with the buzz. We cut it every three weeks or so, and he just looks precious with it.

well, my wee boy jack had the longest blonde curls too. i had a similar situation is that people have referred to him as female...
i did get his hair cut and deeply regret it, his curls have kind of grown back, but they r not as right as they used to be...he now has, what can only be described as, curly fuzz.

DONT DO IT

My son had his first hair cut just shortly after he turned one. It was really just a trim because his hair is straight and was looking a bit ragged over the ears and at the back. He had another trim about 3 months later, and then I actually trimmed it myself just before Christmas. His first 2 cuts were at a kid salon, but then I figured I could do just as good a job. It's your own decision as to when you want to cut your child's hair.

Madelyn hasn't gotten her hair cut yet! I don't want anyone to touch it! LOL I love her hair. She has a lot of different lengths and we have asked a hair dresser about our options. They told us that we should wait. I'm sure at some point I will have to trim her bangs but other then that I don't want anything done to it! :)

my little girl has really fine hair. it's so fine that it wont stay parted, all of it just goes forward and hangs in her face. she wont keep a ponytail in or a barrette. i'd like to cut it but i really can't. if i have her bangs cut she'd just have the back of her hair covering it up and i just can't cut the back of her hair to the length of bangs. i'm really hoping that her hair just starts growing like crazy and that it will keep a part in it, let alone stay behind her ears. she has long hair already but hopefully it'll work itself out here really soon.

My sons first haircut was at 3 months because it was hanging in his eyes. He has had regular haircuts ever since. I used to do them myself with the clippers, but now he is too wiggly so we get it done by a pro.

I cut both my sons hair at about 10 months, i am a hair stylist. It was easy for me to cut it, they did not have a problem getting it done. But i know from doing kids cuts that it is very hard to get them to get there hair cut at such a young age. They seem very antsy and scared about what is going to happen. I would say go for it! The first one might be hard but they will soon be fine with it and love it. My one son is almost 2 and i do his about once a month, and my other son is almost 6 and he gets his done about every 2 weeks they love hair cutting time.

I gave my son Carter his first haircut just before Thanksgiving. Luckily, I'm a Cosmetologist and can do it myself. His hair is light and very fine, so it started looking very stringy. So, one evening after his bath I decided to cut it and boy did it change his looks. He didn't look like a little boy anymore, he sorta looked all grown up. He is actually in need of another one. He didn't sit very still for me but I have had my experience cutting kids' hair for quite awhile now, I have been in the business since 1992 and I actually enjoy cutting and styling kids' hair.

i was the same way with my son. he had the cutest curls and everyone said he would lose them when i cut his hair. he is always mistaken for a little girl, he's just so darn cute. our other issue is he is autistic and does not sit for a hair cut. you have to physically hold him down while someone else cuts his hair. do what you think is best, don't let someone else force you into it if you don't want to

I've cut my son's hair several times, it grows like a weed! I'll cut it right as he gets out of the bath so it's still a little wet and easier to cut. I am careful about cutting too much in back as our son does have the cutest curl as well! I cut the sides a little, the front so they don't go in his eyes, then the top part of the back and sometimes the very back when it gets too long.

If you are worried about loosing the cute little curls try to not cut as much on those parts.

The first haircut we gave our son was actually because he would roll around on the floor a lot and get bits of carpet stuck in it so the back looked like it had a few dread locks in it! He was really good for me to cut it, As he's gotten older I'll have several combs/brushes so he "helps".

We did have someone who really knew what they were doing cut it once when we were going on a nice long vacation, and he really did look like a handsome little boy! I don't do AS well, but he looks so much older when I do cut it.

I just cut my little guy's hair for the first time a week ago- because I thought it was time. He was so good- he just sat and let me cut it.

I say cut your son's hair when you are ready. I've had people mistake my daughter for a boy when she was wearing a pink dress with flowers. So clearly some folks are just idiots, ya know?

My son is 20 mos old and he had his first haircut about 5 months ago. He has lots of curls and I decided to let it grow out instead of going short with it. I think its adorable to let curls grow long, even if it is little bit more work.

I cut my sons hair at 19 months and it was really sad to see his curls all disappear. He looked so different that it took getting use to. That was a month ago and his hair is growing quick but the curls didnt come back.

My little guy was born with a full head of hair and it is unusually thick for his age now. He is almost 20 months old and his hair is thick and full like an adults hair. So much so that he had his first haircut in January 2009 at 7 months old, and has had about 10 haircuts since then! And I don't mean little trim jobs either. I take the clippers after him and put it on the middle setting and there is always a pile on the floor and he looks all neat and trimmed up after I get done with him! Both my kids were blessed with good hair genes. My daughter is 3 and her hair is down to her butt, has been since she was about 18 months old!

No hair cut here yet. My 20mo has the tightest ringlets you have ever seen. There is one that is like a little rats tail at the back that is so long but i cant bear to cut it off.

We will wait until he is 2 i think!

I cut my son's hair 11 months, because it was slowly falling out in two sections of the top (imagine crusty the clown - hair on the very top and both sides w/ a rat tail in the back) And from the day he was born every stranger thought he was a girl, even if he was dress in an outfit with footballs/baseballs on it. I couldn't fault them tho, because he looks exactly like me (mommy). I do miss he curls, now I can only look at them in pictures or his rat tail in his baby book.

His first hair cut was at "Cartoon Cuts", he didn't mind it at all. The used scissors to cut it down then clippers to clean him up (the clippers were quiet). Now at 20 months if he even sees a pair of clippers he is outta the barbars chair.

Well, both of my boys had their hair cut right around their first birthday. It was getting in their eyes and hanging over their ears which made them scratch their ears all the time, making me think that it must bother them. And now they go about every two months! They both have pretty fast growing hair!! lol

I know with both my boys I put it off for a long time but when i finally did cuts I went with some thing really boyish cute, something we could spike up or leave alone and it would still look cute! Once it was cut I was so happy with it and my little guys thought they were too cool with cool big boy hair cuts!! My Nick even started walking with his chest all out like he was quite the stud! lol He is now 4 and getting hair cuts with Daddy is one of his favorite things to do!

My son had the cutest curls.. we gave him a mohawk in the summer and it was a curly hawk instead.. and then we had to trim it to fit in with the other growth, and no more curls.. I wanted to wait and wait and wait because I was so nervous that if I did cut the curls.. they would never come back. They have a little bit, but nothing compared to when he was little!
