Agreed. Ignore him and walk out of the room. Also, if you're getting really frustrated, it happens to me, I just take a mommy time out. I tell my son that I need a time out and I go into another room and close the door (obviously I make sure he's safe first). It really helps me calm down to have a moment to myself.

I was going to say the same thing as Tanya.... I have a twenty month old daughter and a eight month old son. My daughter has started tantrums where she screams, cries, throws herself on the ground, the whole deal. When we are at home, I simply walk away from her and say "You can come see me when you've calmed down." She usually stops after just a minute, if not less. If we are in public, I still speak to her calmly and ask her to act like a big girl and not react too much to her fit and that usually works.

Ignore them. Just put your child someplace where he won't hurt himself and let him scream and kick as much as he wants. After a while, he'll realize you're not paying any attention and he'll stop.

We've established a "time out" spot for when our son has a tantrum, and he settles down pretty quickly once he's there. He has nothing to play with, and nothing to really look at, but he can see we're going about our business without paying attention to him.
