Wow, my son seems to really be behind. Eeck! He will be 2 on May 25th but he was born at 33 weeks. He didn't walk til he was almost 17 months. He just started waving and saying hi, bye bye, and night night. He can and does bring us his sippy if he is thirsty and his bowl if he is hungry (which is ALL the time). He can drink out of a regular cup with no mess. He knows I am mama and his daddy is dada. He can kinda say one of our dogs name (Becca, he calls her Decca). And our other dog he refers to as "no dog." LOL! He's a puppy so we constantly tell him no. That's all he can do though.

Gabe counts to 10, knows most of his colours and shapes. Can recognize letters but can't quite do the alphabet song. He knows all of his body parts. He can but 5 word sentences together (has been saying words since 9months, and talking well since 14months)
He can't, however, jump LOL.. he tries, but only one foot ever comes off the ground. Thankfully he has also never been a climber. He can get onto the couch now, but he doesn't get on to tables or climb in/out of crib or anything. Just never tried.

My son will be 2 on May 8th! He started counting to 10 (roughly, missed a few numbers most the time) at 16 months. Now he does a lot better. He does know all body parts! But he doesnt know his abc's at all (i havent practiced with him so that would be my fault) and he doesnt know his colors (again my fault). Sometimes when I think he should know more then he does I also have to think that I dont practice with him and also that he is very mechanically advanced. When he goes on play dates other parents are amazed at how he taught himself to dribble a basketball at only 18 months and he knows what each ball is for. basketballs are dribbled and shot in hoops (he does that too), footballs are ran with and he even pretends to be tackled, soccer balls are kicked, golf balls hit with a stick, and baseballs hit with a stick but in the air. I've also noticed he plays with his little toy batmans and makes them have conversations and he actually is imagining a storyline. I never thought this was odd until at a playdate a few parents told me they never saw a child so young use his imagination so much and play "house" basically. He tries to hold conversations with kids his age and when they dont comprehend what he is trying to say he understands they dont understand and shows them. (ie: he wanted a little boy, 2yrs 2 months, to go down the slide with him and when he said slide and pointed the little boy looked confused. My son then took his hand, walked him over to the slide, said "slide" while he pointed and then my son climbed up and slid down. Went back to the little boy and kind nudged him towards it and said "you go!")

These are the kinds of things my son does that show is not slow its just his intellegence cannot be measured by colors or abcs. He also taught himself how to change the settings on our tv for it to link with the ps3 and turn on the ps3 put a game in, and get one started by himself. And then just about a month ago i caught him on the internet when I know i left the computer completely off. I think prolly some kids his age that can count to 20 and know all their colors and abcs cannot do lots of the things my son does. Doesnt mean they arent as smart or itellegent, it just means they have different skills and different advancements in different areas. Even children have different interests and are diverse! :)

Corbin will be 2 on May 5th. He knows so many words that I lost track a couple of months ago. He is starting to speak in 2 and 3 word sentences. He counts to 5 regularly but for some reason always misses 3 and likes to start counting with 4,5. If helped he can count to 10. We're working on our abc's and he loves his Your Baby Can Read dvd's. He's starting to respond to them much more. He distinguishes where I work and where his father works, he knows about 15 different people's names and asks to see certain people. He knows the regular stores that we shop at by name and logo. He knows the names of his toys and asks to play with them. He says please and thank you about half the time without being prompted. He also uses about 7 or 8 signs in regular life. He hugs, kisses, burps :), helps feed and grabs diapers for his baby brother. He also knows the Dagan's name (7 months) and tries to comfort him when he is crying. He is like some kids where he knows his colors but confuses them often. I recommend a Eric Carle's First Colors book because it has split pages that you match colors with items that are that color. He can tell me what he wants to eat, when he wants to sleep, what he would like to play with, and if he wants something to drink. Now we're starting to work on potty training. He was crawling early at 7 months and refused to walk because he got around faster with crawling and finally walked about a week after his 1st birthday but would not let you hold his hands or use the walking wings contraption or a walker...he had to do it himself. He knows all of his body parts and sings songs like Row Row Row Your Boat and the Imagination Movers song hahaha....he misses a lot of words in these songs, but he sure tries like the dickens. He also knows about 30 or more animals and most of the sounds that they make and he knows the difference between trucks cars motorcycles and we're working on vans and other vehicles.

My daughter knows red, blue and yellow (we have a yellow fish whose name is yellow, so that helped a lot with that color)! She can sing her ABC's (the song, and just reciting them). She gets all the way to P, without being prompted and can get the rest of the way with prompts. She sings Twinkle, Twinkle, and the Itsy Bitsy Spider, along with hand motions. She knows a lot of different sign language, like milk, juice, mom, dad, brother, auntie and uncle. She can do please and thank you also. She can point and name all of her body parts, she calls her little woman part "mommies", because when we take baths together, she points to mine, and I say "mommies". I don't really know how to start correcting her on that. She has a book memorized, it's about trains, and is mostly full of choo-choos and whoo-whoos.

my daughter was born on may 5th. compared to the kids in her daycare class she is ahead of some of the 2 yr olds in the 2's class. she can count to ten (when she wants) knows all of her abc's by heart and can sing them herself. she eats anything that i cook but potatoe salad. she was walking at 10 months and crawling at 7 months. she decided that she didnt want the bottle at 11months and we got rid of the pacifier at 1yr. ahe has been in her toddler bed since she was 18 months. i saw what they were sleeping on at daycare and decided if she can sleep on a cot at daycare then she can sleep in a toddler bed at home. she also knows all the animals and the sounds they make. or atleast the common ones. she says all kinds of sentences and also names things that no one knew she knows. she can sing the happy birthday song and she can sing other songs like twinkle twinkle little star. she loves her cd in the car. she also knows please, thankyou and your welcome. and how to use them properly. finally she is potty training. she has been using the potty since oct but we think she fell in at daycare and got scared so she stopped using it for a month or two but now she is back to her normal ways and uses the potty once or twice a day. she loves her doggie and likes to torture him. but she is good at using sentences about what is going on. she also knows who about 25 people are well maybe more because she knows all the teachers at school and all the kids in her class and the 2's class. plus family memebers as well such as grandma and grandpa some of her uncles and aunts and her cousins. she is so smart but i have noticed they are definatly getting smarter these days

My son,Alexander, will be 2 on the 1st of May. He can count from 1-12 but only truely understands the concept of 1 and 2 at this stage. He knows about 6 nursery rhymes and loves "twinkle twinkle little star". He can sing the alphabet song properly too. He loves books and music and loves to sing. He speaks in full sentences most of the time and knows all his animals and the sounds they make. He has been able to jump off both feet since he was 18 months thanks to the discovery of the joys of a trampoline:) He tries to undress himself and can put his own shoes on. Essentially, he is an absolute joy to watch and be around. I'm defnitely a very proud mommy! I'm also just glad that he is a healthy and happy boy!

My oldest son, is now 12(13 in August). He was an only child for 7 years, until my daughter was born. He interacted one on one with adults all day also. He talked in sentences by 13 months, by 2 yrs.knew states and capitals, and by 3yrs. was obsessed with Egypt and the fall of Rome. He would rather watch the Discovery or History channel than cartoons. He still is a huge history buff and has studied at length the Titanic, Civil War, both World Wars, and the Holocaust was of particular interest to him. He was tested in the 4th grade and is gifted. He has never had trouble making friends or connecting with kids his own age, but is more comfortable around adults. Though sometimes he was told he weird for knowing so much, but we just told him it's what makes him unique and it's good to be an individual. We just encourage his interests, no matter what they may be. I can't wait to see what the future holds him, and his brother and sister as they are all unique and intelligent in their own way.

My little boy is two on 17th May, I think h is qite advanced too. He knows body parts, understands heaps. They are such little sponges at this age. Also JOshua could kick a ball from age 1 and even lines it up and runs at it, and he can also jump with two feet (and has been doing this for a long time). It is so incredible how quickly they pick up things at this age.

My daughter (28th may 08) is talking really well (i think anyway). She can say three and four word sentences now eg "where did Daddy go" and she answers them lol "Daddy's gone work". We have just started teaching her to count this week, so dar she can count to 3. She can name and point to all the body parts.

She is pretty much toilet trained, only wears her nappy overnight, and has unfortunately given up her day sleep already! Um, she drinks from a regualar cup now - even pours her own drinks and currently she is trying to teach her 6 month old brother how to crawl.. lol now that is cute. "samuel, crawl.." she says lol.. He doesnt yet tho :)

Oh she gets undressed by herself now, and climbs on the toilet by herself, turns the tap on by herself, gets food out of the fridge by herself... I wonder what she even needs me for she it too independent..

Sounds like all the little ones are doing great!Q!

My Juliet was born May 6, 2008. I've stopped counting how many words she can say. She has been doing 4-5 word sentences since 16 months. She counts to 12 and can almost say the abc's. She also understands and says many German words as my husband is german. She says thank you and bless you and sorry when she farts! She can name pretty much anything in her books and does all the animal noises. She is a little weak on colors but dr. says that is a 3 year old skill. She is still breastfeeding but eats well. Tonight she said, "I can't wait to eat food!" The best is when she says, "I wuv you mama."

My son will be 2 on May 28th and it looks like so will a lot of other babies. Happy early B-day to them. He has a sister who is 10 and a brother who just turned 3 and wow he is so far ahead of either of them at this age. I'm potty training both boys now and he has only had 3 accidents in the past 5 days in his big boy pants. As soon as I put on a pullup to go anywhere though he doesn't seem to want to go potty. He has been able to recite his favorite book for the past 6 months and is talking in full sentences. He talks better than his brother. He's like a sponge and soaks of EVERYTHING good and bad lol. He knows soo much it's amazing. This is the first time i've been able to stay at home with my kids since my daughter was born and I hope to get back into the work force soon however I am teaching my boys all i can while i can. I wish I didn't have to go back to work but oh well gotta make a living somehow. I just love watching them soak up things.

My son will be 2 on the 30th May and is a fast learner. He can count to 6, can recognise shapes and name them and can now say most colours, however can only show you and pick out objects of the colours pink, orange, blue and red. He knows all his body parts, animals and their noises and has started stringing words together like "come on mummy" etc. Me and my fiancé can now understand pretty much all that he says although sone days he does just 'jib' still and talk nonesense! We get lots of comments from people saying how clever he is and advanced however I think all children are different and develop at different stages with everything. Our sob crawled at 5 months, walked at 10 which a lot of people told us was early. My friends little girl didn't walk till she was 15 months, however her speech developed v early on and her vocabulary was amazing by the time she turned 2 abd she was potty trained. Sounds like we all have v clever babies!! May 2008 bubbas are all geniuses!!!

My daughter will be 2 on May 12th because she is the youngest of three kids I feel she is well developed for her age. She can count to 7,knows a lot of words, can explain when she is scared, sad or happy. knows some colours, knows all body parts her favourite is eye brows!! for some reason! copies every word people say at the moment! trying to learn some words in Swahili as well. (my husbands' language) copies people when talking on the phone.knows basic phone talk - Hello,How are u,fine, bye! I think every child is different and it does really make a difference when they have brothers and sisters around, especially for Skye as my oldest talks nonstop!! Plus they tend to teach the younger kids as well. All of the comments seem the same development for all the kids born at this time,so that's a good thing.

I'm glad you posted this question! I've always wondered what was normal and what is advanced. My son, born May 5/08, counts to 20, says alphabet song completely and identifies all letters. He can "sing" (tunelessly) about 10 or 12 songs, recite about 12 nursery rhymes (missing some of the words), and says 100's of words. Not kidding. Like an earlier post, we counted at about 17 months and were at about 200 and stopped. He knows way more now. He even recites Dr. Seus tongue twisters like "Luke Luck likes lakes, Lukes duck likes lakes"... it's all pretty crazy unbelievable to us.

Knows all his colours including purple, grey etc, knows opposites and says them (up down, dry wet, in out, hot cold, full empty, etc), and all shapes, but mixes up petagons and hexagons (uh... I would think so!).

That being said, he's not a super star in other areas... shows no interest in feeding himself soft food like yogurt, putting on his clothes, or using the potty.

WOW! I sure wish my Grayson would practice numbers, letters, and colors. He seems to have too short an attention span, and as of yet he does not know any of these, but is very advanced in other areas. He started walking at 8 months, started sleeping in a toddler bed in Sept., and is speaking in 5-10 word sentences (ie. "I wanna go nana's house get apple" or "had fun with grampy at park). When he was about 18 months (at the suggestion of my mom and sister) I wrote down all the words he knew and came up with over 225 as well as about 25 names, and about 30 words in sign language. Within the last month he has started referring to himself as "I" and using possessives and plurals. He knows most of his body parts and all the "common" animals and what sounds they make. We started potty training a few months ago, but he seems to have lost interest, although he will still tell me when he needs his diaper changed and will bring me a diaper and wipes. He loves to help and is always looking for something to put in the trash or the sink. He will get the broom out of the closet and bring it to me saying "I make a mess." He just loves to do anything I do, including laundry. He never ceases to amaze me daily!

We have a similar thing with the kid interaction. My daughter is an only child and will be. My husband and I are older, and she doesn't go to daycare. She interacts one on one with adults all day. She likes to be friends with kids, but she starts talking to them like an adult, and they just kinda look at her with their fingers in their mouths. I'm a teacher and figure that she'll have many years to interact with other kids and will figure it out.

My son just turned 22 months and really enjoys learning. He absolutely LOVES to read! He knows and recognizes all his letters wether they are in order or not. He can also do the same with his numbers from 1 - 20. He does know all the body parts and atleast 8 different colors 100% of the time. He knows way more than 100 words and is putting them in sentances when he is in the comfort of his own home. The only problem we have is that he doesnt socialize well with other children. He is an only child at this point and does not get how to play with others, however he is very comfortable around other adults. We are hoping to improve his confidence around other kids so he can enjoy being a "kid". Its amazing how these little minds grow every day!

Kids are so smart nowadays. That's why I wondered the same thing about my daughter. I knew that kids were talking and developing quickly, so I wasn't sure what to think when she spoke in 2-3 word sentences at 10 months. She now carries on 7-9 word sentence conversations with people. It usually deals with what she's wearing and what they're wearing or doing...she's a fashion bug. However, I do still wonder if she might be a tad gifted. She can count to 20 and knows/recognizes letters in the alphabet. She know all the body parts, including elbow, wrist, chest, shoulders, shin, knees, eyebrows, eyelashes, you get the idea. She knows all the basic colors including gray, orange, brown, pink, white. She can sing full songs....maybe 50 of them? I'm just not sure, but I do know that kids are very advanced. She's had a lot of music in her life; as I'm a music teacher and did music for the unborn lessons with her after school every day. She is living proof that music is a powerful tool towards intelligence.

She can count to 7, knows some words on sight, knows the basic colors, her ABCs but gets mixed up at times, body parts and has been making sentences for about 2-3 months. She has been potty trained since Nov and we started in Aug. She is quite the busy lady and isn't in daycare but her big brother, age 9, works with her daily. I love to hear how her little mind works when she makes her sentences because I see how she is remembering what she is being taught.

He talks in complete sentences and is always tattle taling on somebody. He has also started potty training himself as he showed interest in using the potty. He can let you when he is hurt and which part of the body hurts. He can also identify parts of his body and has began reading and identifying words. My son Kai was born 31/5/08 so very last day in may although he was due the 20/5/08 11 days late. He was a year before he walked without holding onto anything, so was a little slow in this area, he hardlys talks he knows about 10-15 words but has never had to learn them because my family get everything for him as he uses his own mind to tell us what he wants rather than using talking he uses signs or just basically pulls you to what he wants he is really clever in explaining what he wants without talking. He can count to 5 somtimes missin a number which is really good. Although he is slow in some areas he is really clever in other like potty training which is going really well but i myself was potty trained before the age of 2, he is not fully potty trained as still use nappies when were out but in the house he uses his potty almost everytime he needs to. I have no older children but a younger daughter who is picking everything up really quickly so i do think if you have older children the younger ones will pick everthing up so much quicker than the first child, but i may be wrong, maybe its just that your more experienced the 2nd time round lol

My Daughter saaliha just amazes me! I had four sons before her and all of them spoke early...but Saaliha is lightening fast. She is talking in almost complete sentences. She can count to ten (sometimes missing the odd number lol), identifies all arabic letters as either 'kaaf' or 'meem' or simply as Qur'an. She identifies feelings and tells me when she is happy, scared or sad....eg she might say to me, ''I happy, I smiling'' or '' I sad, I crying''.She knows pink, green, yellow and orange and can identify all the female body parts. She knows lots of animal names, sings 'twinkle twinkle little star how I wonder what you are', she says 'please', 'thankyou' and 'you're welcome', she even says 'excuse me'. I lost count some time ago of just how many words she knows. Saaliha also tries to dress herself, likes to copy me in the bathroom and walks really well out and about. She eats lots of different things and loves fruit and veg...but she rarely eats proper meals, she prefers to 'graze' lol. I think having so many big people around her has helped...my sons are 18, 16, 14 and 10 so there is always someone to talk to or to copy! I think her ability to express herself so well (ie tell me how she feels, what is wrong, what she wants to eat etc) is the reason why we don't have very many tantrums with her. She does get frustrated and sometimes very vocal and stubborn but no real tantrums....yet.

my son knows EVERY body part. male and female. his colors are a lil weak tho. i actually believe he maybe color blind. my father and grandfather are both color blind so it does kinda run in the family. he knows how to say the name of the different rooms in the house (i.e. bathroom kitchen) knows the difference between cars trucks vans etc.. he knows a lot of animals and what sounds they make. he knows a lil sign language.

i think your lil one is doing great! right now they know as much as you tell them!

Catie was born 5/9/08. She was a super late crawler and walker. She's growing up bilingual (german and english) and knows about 50 or 60 words (like every other kid her age she learns new words every other day), mostly german but also some in english. She knows most of her body parts, the only color she knows for sure is pink...hahahahaha She has recently started to try and combine words into 2 word sentences.
I guess we're approaching the terrible two's fast because she has gotten very stubborn about... well... everything!!! Sometimes she won't take a bath, won't let me wash her hair, won't eat ALL day... sigh ;-)
