How long does it take for a little one to take off?

My daughter--who will be 15 months on the 23rd--just started walking around on the 8th. She takes a few steps here and there, sometimes from toy to toy, but still prefers to crawl. But at the same time, she's climbing all over everything and standing on things like boxes and her walker (which I lowered to the ground promptly)!

How long will it take her to become brave enough to walk more? Were any other kids like her?

My husband and I have even been taking time at night to encourage her to walk from one of us to the other.

No two children are alike. Some will stay at this stage for a very long time. Others go right from crawling to walking. I think it is a big step psychologically and it will happen when she is ready. You are doing all the right things to build her confidence. It will come soon enough!



Our story: Julia was 10.5 months and was taking a few steps here and there and walked well holding one hand. One day, my husband and I were filming her because she had learned to sing along with a song we sang. Well, she refused to sing the song, but then she proceded to walk accross the room with the camera rolling.



One thing that encouraged both of my girls to walk was when they spend time with kids their own size who were walking. The best teachers for little people are little teachers!

My little girl has just started walking most of the time instead of crawling. I wouldn't worry too much. She's probably just waiting to get more confident :-)
