I just had my second child 2 weeks ago. Now I'm home with both Newborn and 16 month old son. I can tell he is soooo bored. He's not too mad that he doesn't get all my attention. But he does get upset that I can't sit on the living room floor for hours to play with him. I need some ideas for games he can play with himself for now.

My son is now 17 mos and plays really well on his own. He likes books, puzzles, coloring, push toys, ride toys, Little People farm, bus, and airplane...Our livingroom has become his play room due to lack of room to have it other places. We have his toys all lined up and he will go through them picking and choosing what he wants to play with and then puts them back when he is done...well more or less. My little guy is very active and moves non-stop while he is awake.

Quoting Cheryl:

He's old enough for some peg puzzles, Duplo blocks, Popums, etc. My daughter likes to "color" and "write" with her older siblings but needs to be watched because she likes to bite off the erasers and tips. I know there is an edible playdoh recipie so that you don't have to worry about him eating it:

2 cups PB, 2 cups dried milk, 2 c rolled oats, 2/3 c honey (or you can use Rice Krispies, chocolate chips, coconut sprinkles, red hots, etc) I also cover the table surface with wax paper. Store any that's left in an airtight container.

Another one that's not so chunky or healthy is:
1/3 c butter, 1/2 t salt, 1 lb powdered sugar, 1/3 c light corn syrup, 1 t vanilla, food coloring. Keep refrigerated when not using.

Very cool... Thanx

For my daughter, we got a big canvas grocery bag and put her smaller toys in it so it can be carried around the house. She can dig through it to find something to play with, and she's even putting her toys back in it when she tires of them. You could do something like that, too. As long as it's not too cold where you are, you could also set up an area outside for your son to play in you can put him in the play area and let him play while you hold on to the newborn...if your son like my daughter just being outside keeps him entertained. You can read to them at the same time, holding both.
