Is he behind schedule?

My son, born May 23, still has no teeth, is only rolling from his stomach to back (not visa-versa) and is showing no interest in crawling. When my daughter was his age (also a May baby, just 3 years earlier) she was crawling shortly after 6 months and had 4 teeth by now. What stages are your 7-8 month olds?

Just like the other moms have said, each baby goes at their own pace.  Our little guy has two teeth and is scooting/army crawling and getting up on his knees (although this always ends up in a face plant)!  Ill bet your son will do everything soon and in pretty quick order...I'm sure it will dawn on him to do it and he will!  :)

My son, born May 2, just learned about a week ago to pull himself to his knees in his crib. Today he learned to pull himself to his feet in his crib. He is now pulling on the coffee table and pulling things off. He started to call me (Mama) "Bob" and clearly says "Dada". He learned to shake his head "No", but will do it all of the time. It is great seeing all these new things he is learning, but I also miss the little baby that just laid there and smiled at me.

My daughter Gabriella was born May 3oth and still has no teeth, is not crawling.  She is such a happy and content baby  and I know that we have to remind ourselves that every baby is different and they develope at there own pace.  I started to worry but I look at her and think I am glad she is not crawling yet because then she will be into everything :)  She is rolling and can sit up (but only for a little while) then she falls over like the leaning tower!

My son was born May 29, has two bottom teeth, is also only rolling from his stomach to his back and has no interest in crawling. I have a 3 year old boy who was the same way and he didn't walk until he was 18 months so I'm hoping this one picks up the pace a little bit.

My son Aiden was born on May 8th. He is rolling over and sitting up, but he's not crawling and still has no teeth. He's an extra big boy. At his 6 month appt he was 29 inches long and 23lbs. The dr was surprised that he was sitting up so well. She told me larger babies usually take a little longer to do things.

I have 5 boys. My May 10th son is rolling front to back and back to front, sitting and has 6 teeth. I wouldn't worry about your little one as all my other boys have done things at different stages. My number 2 son had teeth at 4 months, walked at 9 months but now at 5years can't open a packet whereas my 3 year old can open a packet and he didn't get teeth until 11 months and walked at 13 months. They are all different and will do it when they are ready.

I was an Infant Nursery Supervisor(daycare teacher) for 13 years and I have seen it all when it comes to babies.  LOL  Don't worry!  He is is still within in the "guidelines" and he'll do it when he's ready.  If there is true concern, ask your doctor at his next appointment.  Also, they may have some fun play ideas on how to work on it.  But mainly, he'll do it when he is ready and wants to.  Our little guy is crawling, pulling up and trying to walk by just randomly letting go, falling and getting really angry.  It kind of sucks.  LOL

My little girl Jordyn born May 25, 2008 has two teeth. She also crawls, pulls her self up, has taken a couple steps :( and she says four words dada, baba, papa, and ma. Don't rush it , it all happens soooo quickly I am so sad that Jordyn is doing all this stuff so quickly..

My son was born May 2nd. He has 8 teeth, just started to roll from his back to his stomach, sits very well on his own and is just starting to sit from a lying position. He will scoot on his butt on the kitchen floor and starting to figure out scooting on carpet. He has NO interest in crawling at all, yet will "walk" if you hold his hands. He said his first word "Da Da" (of course) last month. Now if you hold his hands and say "up" he will pull himself up, then when you say "down" he will fall to his butt and giggle. Once in awhile he will 'wave' bye-bye, normally its when I throw out a dirty diaper.

It has been proven that STATISTICALLY boys do tend to hit thier milestones later than girls.  No, it isnt always the case, and no it isnt saying that boys are less then girls, I dont think that was what was meant by her saying that. Just like girls hit puberty before boys do.  It isnt putting the boy down, its just nature. I have boy/girl twins and from birth I saw a difference. They even said when they were born that girl multiples tend to do better at birth then boys.  (he had some breathing problems the first day.) In alot of ways she is ahead of him, but in a few he is ahead of her.  In the end they balance out.

Thomas was born 16th may, has 5 teeth, sits up but will not go on his stomach at all, so he will only roll once in a blue moon from his back to his front so I dont think he will ever crawl! He is still in 3-6 month clothes so is quite small still. \I dont think there really is a schedule for babies to follow they are all so very different

I say just be patient bc it doesnt make a difference in gender but in the baby, they develop when THEY are ready to! My lil Ayden has been holding his bottle since 3.5-4mths, scooting at 5mths, said da-da at 6mths got 2 teeth at 7 and is pulling up and moving around things going on 8mths, so it just depends on the baby, dont pressure your baby, theyll be up and about in no time, itll be you trying to keep up, i know i am.

My son was born May 8th, has 4 teeth as of today, and also shows no desire to crawl... He'll get up on his hands and knees and rock back and forth but thats it. My friends daughter is 10 days younger than Carson and she already crawls and pulls herself up to stand and will cruise while holding on to something... I don't think your little guy is behind schedule at all... just developing at his own pace  :)

Feel your pain.  My 24 lbr (5.20.08) is not crawling, will sit unsupported and lean over to his belly and then roll back and forth...but no crawling.  My son crawled at 6.5 months, my daughter crawled at 5.5 months and walked at 10 months so.....OH WELL.  I guess it really is true that each are different.  My son is just so cranky b/c he wants to crawl but can't.  I guess I should leave him to get frustrated.  Maybe it will produce results:)

My daughter was born May 31. she just got her first two teeth in the past couple of weeks, but she is not crawling....she rolls everywhere she wants to go. when i asked the pediatrician about her crawling she said that crawling isnt even on the checklist of milestones they must achieve. she said it is not uncommon for some babies to not crawl at all, so i wouldnt worry about the crawling, he may go straight to walking.

My son is 7 and 1/2 months and only started trying to crawl this week he can get on all his fours but has still not mastered the art of moving on his fours. He also has no teeth and at the moment can only push himself up on his arms and roll round back and forth. Im not too stressed about the teething and crawling as boys have tended to be slow blomers. He is quite quick in getting round with his baby walker though so im not stressed at all.

My daughter (5/15/08) is pulling herself up to standing, eating some finger foods, and starting to crawl. She has no teeth and is constantly in motion! She drinks from a sippy cup by herself. It seems funny to me that I ever worried about her doing things, because I am a teacher and I've never seen any school-aged kids without teeth, unable to walk or talk, and not able to feed themselves (unless of course they have special needs). =)

I've read with the recent  "back to sleep" campaign that rolling over is not truely considered a major milestone anymore. So don't fret!  My son, born the 3rd, just recently started crawling but he is a very active baby.  He's always squirming! You would think I give him and IV drip of sugar.  No teeth yet though.

My boy was born May 10th, but he was also 6 1/2 or so weeks premature (his due date was June 24th)  He has been rolling back and forth for a while, mostly favors rolling over his left side for some reason... A few weeks ago he started getting up on his knees, rocking back and forth for a while, then diving forward to get around.  So I guess you'd call that creeping or scooting... he has had "teething symptoms" (biting, fingers in mouth, irritability) for months and just days before new years we noticed his first two bottom teeth poking through!

Hi Sarah like I said in my previous post I wouldnt be concerned all babies go at their own pace I know babies that didnt crawl till they were 10 months & 3 weeks later started walking & some that went start from sitting to walking. My daughter was terrified to walk without holding onto something or some one she was 1 yr & 2 months b4 I got her to get over dropping to her bum everytime you let her go. As for boys being slower then girls I dont think thats true I go to weekly play groups and all the babies are doing things in different stages. One of the little guys was crawling at 5 & 1/2 months & had teeth at 4 months. Enjoy this time well you can cause when he does start to crawl he'll be getting into everything.

For not having teeth yet, that is perfectly normal. My son was born on May 1st, and he got his first two bottom teeth on Christmas! They say that the longer they wait, the stronger they are! As for not crawling yet - my baby just started not too long ago. (And sorry April Lanier, I was offended by your comment and wanted to say that it isn't a boy/girl difference. Boys are not lesser than girls since mine is already crawling.) If he's not showing signs of wanting to crawl in the next month or so, I would consult your pediatrician.

My son (May 4) has absolutly no interest in crawling either! I honestly think that he is going to go right to walking. he is wanting to pull himslef on things (but he doesn't get far)

Mine didn't roll very often either.. He will go front to back then he is happy to stay there..

Don't take it as a sign of delay. Maybe your son just hates to be on his stomache as much as my son does!

Concerning the teeth.. doesn't sweat it! I've heard the longer it takes for his teeth to come in, the stronger they are!

My son was born May 21 and he is not crawling yet...he would rather scoot around on his belly.  However, he does have 8 teeth.  But, every baby is different and the "normal" teething time they say starts after 6 months.  I wouldn't worry if I was you...every child develops at there own pace and not a moment before.  Just keep giving him tummy time and when he is ready, he will go for it.

Ava Beth (May 21) sounds like the same. No teeth, no interest in crawling. She'd rather stand. When she's on her belly she does the "swimming" motion. On Christmas I told my dad I was trying to teach her to crawl and he responded with a a roaring "WHY?" That was all I needed to hear, now I don't worry about her crawling. It will come when it's time. Why would I want to chase her around so soon?

My son didn't talk till he was a year old...we thought he had problems but he was just a late talker. We have a major problem shutting him up now. He is extremely smart and we almost feel that we overreacted. My eight month old doesn't do a lot of babbling and she is 8 months and is just now rolling, so hang in there soon you will be missing the "just rolling" phase

We are in the same situation, my son was born may 27th, he rolls over when put on his belly but hasn't even tried to get up on his knees yet to crawl, and my daughter was crawling at his age! He also has no teeth, but neither did my daughter until about 10 or 11 months. I think it's just a boy/girl difference, boys are a little slower at things. His doc say there is no need to worry unless they are not crawling at 9 months.

My daughter who was born May 26, is at about the same stage your son is. She has no teeth, only rolling from her stomach to back, and is not crawling. My older daughter was also about the same way. She didn't get teeth till a little over 8 months old and didn't crawl till she was 10 months old.
