I'm still breastfeeding him (only before he falls asleep). He loves yoghurs and I try mixing in some milk in fruit smothies for him. He likes them too. But I'm worried it's not enough milk for him! I tried chocolate milk, put some sugar in the milk, but he drinks a few sips and when tastes that it's milk- doesn't even want to touch that cup again! Any advice?

I agree with Sandra- why are you guys pushing cow's milk? Because they have told you for sooooo long that cow's milk is so essential to our diet. It's not at all- there are so many other alternatives out there- even at Walmart. Try goat's milk, almond milk, rice milk, or soy milk if it's a girl (I'd avoid it for a boy, but that's my opnion). If it's the calcium you're concerned about- our babies are young enough to try to get them to eat healthy calcium rich foods like broccoli, green beans, chopped almonds, and carrots.

As the wife of a dentist I will warn you to avoid sweetening their milk and using chocolate or flavors to entice them to drink it. If you are doing this- please don't allow them to sip for a hour on their milk cup. Have them drink it at one sitting and then brush their teeth!!!!

We mix regular cows milk with this

http://www.nestlenido.com/AllAboutNido/P...

Savannah loves it!! Since its 17g/sugar per 8oz I make a 4 oz serving and fill her cup the rest of the way with regular cows milk. She drinks about 3 cups of milk per day. no problems rejecting the milk once we started adding the NIDO. PLUS its fortified. Regular cows milk isn't fortified so i feel like i'm adding a little vitamin insurance with every cup.

My daughter wouldn't drink milk either. So, and I may be chastized for saying this, I bought the low sugar Nestle chocolate powder, and i put just a baby spoon full of choc in her 8 oz sippy of mlk. I realize the extra sugar is disadvantageous, but that was the only way she would drink milk.

My son doesn't like milk either. The pediatrician told me as long as he got some milk with his cereal in the morning and ate one yogurt a day, that she wasn't concerned. Good Luck!

DD is the same way. I do one of two things... either add a few ice cubes or heat it up. Both work well for us. Mostly the ice these days. You can add one of those yogurt drinks to the milk also. Maybe honey. We also give her Vanilla Soy milk and she likes it better than cow's milk. Also they only need 2 servings / day so you can also use cheese and yogurt to get the dairy into him!

Most people don't realize that cow's milk is not a necessary part of a human's diet! It's the dairy industry that wants us to consider it as one of the "food groups" In fact, we can absord calcium much better from vegetable sources and the calcium from milk does not get absorbed very well by humans. In Japan, people used to have dairy free diets and they did fine...til someone decided to start pedalling cow's milk to them...and guess what? Most of them are allergic to it! So I say, so what if your 15 month old doesn't like milk!

If your son is used to milk that's warm, try heating it up for him. My daughter didn't like cold plain milk at first so I would heat it up for 45 seconds and then shake it around to get out hot spots then bam she started drinking it.

Oh, Julia! This doesnt' sound good! Maybe I should send you some Germany milk powder.... Corvin likes it! He was exactly 11 months old when I finished breastfeeding and it worked without any problems - luckely!!! Now he is drinking a bottle (200 ml) in the morning and one in the evening....

After I've had my cereal with fruit in it, the milk has this yummy fruity taste to it that my daughter loves! She drinks it right out of the bowl. Maybe try some fresh blue berries, raspberries or strawberries in the milk and see what happens!

We put cheerios in the bottle or cup to add flavor. He really enjoyed that. Or, Gerber sells a powdered yogurt that we add to the milk.

My 15 month old, who is stil breastfed too, enjoys ice-cold plain soy milk. I give him silk plain soy milk with DHA, it has 5 grams of healthy fat and lots of vitamins and minerals too. I've heard that it is common for babies who have been breastfed for so long, to dislike cow milk. Good luck!

Maybe try unsweetened or vanilla soy milk...looks like milk, has same benefits, but doesn't really taste like milk. Plus, it helps if they have constipation problems that come with drinking milk.

My daughter didn't like milk when we first started and doc said don't worry. She needed up to 24oz total dairy a day. He said she didn't have to have any milk as long as we fed her more dairy foods like cheese and yogurt. So we took the less stress approach. I offer her only whole milk and water as much as she wants during the day anytime she asks and at all meals and snacks. Then I make sure to offer plenty of dairy foods. We even freeze yogurt and give chunks as a treat she loves it. Try yogurt drinks. Then don't worry. After a week or so she started drinking more but still only gets like 16-20oz total. But she's gaining weight and healthy so we go with it. I also cook with her milk, add it to eggs cereal etc. Doc also suggested nutritional drinks like pediasure but we haven't tried em. Good luck and keep trying!
