is anyone else little ones already in a toddler bed? at 13 months i had to put my son in his toddler bed because he learned to climb out of his crib and almost landed head frist on the floor (i came in the room just as he was going over the top and i caught him) he's been sleeping better in his bed then he ever did in his crib! i was just curious if anyone else has had to make the switch yet.

We moved our son at about 15 or 16 months, when we did he was SO excited about it. the first week was kind of hard, he didn't sleep at all, the first two days he spent most of his time climbing in and out, in and out, in and out....lol. Then the rest of the week he would just room around his room and play. Sometimes he'll get out of his room when we try to put him to sleep but we just put him right back in there and tell him he needs to sleep. lol. We just make sure we keep noisy toys out of his room otherwise we'll wake up in the middle of hte night to his "music".

For those moms who are uncomfortable with the switch to a toddler bed but have a climber, they make crib tents to prevent a baby from climbing out and falling. Just an option.

I know someones kid that figured out how to pull that down and when they went to check on him he was sitting in the crib in the tent thing lol, like... it was all around him.  We were talking about that just yesterday actually!

I dont think at 15 months a child/baby is ready for a toddler bed. i think they should be in a cot till at least two.

well thats your opintion... but i would much rather put my child in a bed that he can get out of and if he falls out of its a very short fall, then come in one morning to a baby who has climbed out of his crib and hurt himself or worse.

not to mention my 15 month old litterally runs to go to bed all excited because he loves his toddler bed! he hated his crib. all i have to say is "go get in your bed!" when he was in his crib he screamed and cried and carried on because he hated it so much!

i certainly hope you would consider a switch rather then put your child at risk. i also certainly hope you don't judge people who make the call that its safer then leaving them in a crib. it depends on the child honestly. if you can keep a child in a crib that long good for you.. but try and remember not every child will conform to your veiws of what should and should not happen.

We have one waiting for my little girl. But she's not ready yet. My son was in one by the time he turned one! All kids are different. I'd much rather them be in the bed than fall out of the crib!!

Our son is 14 & a half months old and we've made the switch to the toddler bed in the last week. He started climbing out of his crib at night..so really, lack of options lol. I was SO worried about the transition and was thinking that it would take DAYS to get him adjusted. He tends to be a bit on the dramatic side. Boy, was I wrong. The 1st night..He LOVED it. He actually looks forward to bed time. LOL. He loves to get into bed at night. Loves to show how much of a big boy he is..showing off his bed to Mommy & Daddy. So at all those mommies out there -- don't be so worried. If done right, the transition can be awesome!!

I have not switched my son to the toddler bed yet because I am afraid that he will not stay in bed that he would start roaming the house in the middle of the night.

I am thinking of experimenting with it at 18months, in prep for a Spring baby taking over the crib. Definitely getting some long bedrails, but also thinking of putting the mattress right on the floor. My sister suggested starting with nap time. Not sure how I'll really do it...I think he must have an attachment to his crib and wonder how he'll feel about moving out of it before he can get all excited and understand what a "big boy bed" really means. Also, when do we start with a pillow??

i havent tried the toddler bed yet. i am just worried because she is an ancy sleeper and moves around alot that she might fall out. i am going to try it out closer to when she gets to 18 months old and see how she does with it. she does really good in her crib. with being ready to go to bed and then putting herself to sleep at night. the crib that she has is one that transfers to a toddler bed when she gets big enough so i dont have to buy a new bed unless we decide to have another baby. but i want to wait a while before we do that so that is my next move oh yeah and the potty training.

My daughter has been in toddler bed since she was 11 months only because we moved from nevada to oregon in January and are still not in our own place and she was sleeping in the pack & play in our room!!! so she was not sleeping through the night anymore and didnt like it so i convinced my mother in law to let me have 2 rooms of the house and just got her a toddler bed instead of digging the crib out of storage!! She likes it so much most of the time she goes to sleep on her own and always sleeps through the night!!! but i do miss laying with her!! I also have an extra bed rail on it so that she cant fall out because she flips and flops alot and i got a foam topper for it to make it more comfortable and she seems to squirm less

it varies so much from kid to kid! i've known people with 10 month olds who've had to make the switch and people with 3 and a half year olds just making the switch! i guess it all depends on when they're ready. i was suprized when my son wouldn't get out of his toddler bed once i put him in it! if he climbs on it himself he'll get out but he stays in there when i put him in there.
he's been in his bed for a month now and if he's tired he'll lead me to his bed, climb up, and look at me. its so cute!

I still have my son in his crib...but looking to put him in a tot bed within the next 6-7 mos. I would have liked to keep him in his crib later so I know that he is staying in bed, but I will need the crib for my new baby that is due in March. My nephew is 2 1/2 years old and is still in his crib...

I'd really like to get my daughter into a toddler bed but I think she's just to little for it yet. She's a climber so I'm really grateful that she hasn't learned how to climb out of the crib just yet.Given the chance at a toddler bed she'd definitely climb her little behind right on out.She does however enjoy jumping in her bed from one end to the other and so I'm not ready to give her a chance to just bounce right out of the bed. So I'd like to but for my comfort I think we'll make her wait till around late winter or spring time.

My daughters crib was just recalled last week and we are making the big switch to a toddler bed later this week. She is using a pack n play until the toddler bed arrives and I have my fingers crossed that she does ok with it since she has always done great putting herself to sleep in her crib.
